Description

This was simply a GO BIG or go home project, and funny enough I ended up doing both. To start with. I am a university/college student studying architecture, and I was looking for an all round powerful PC when gaming and using designs programs. After a couple of years just searching best parts and bits to buy; the time had come for me to build the beast. Before purchasing the parts, I was in a state of thought; wondering which CPU to get, I decided to go with i7 6700 which has a turbo boost of 4ghz without the need of overclocking of such the i6700k only does a 4.2ghz overclockage (max 4.5ghz) which is power I didn't really need mainly because I had a beast of a GPU (EVGA GTX 980ti Superclocked!!!) Because of this, I had received some stick of my friends due to the CPU corsair h100i GTX which is truly not necessary unless if I was overclocking, but I simply just adored the look of having a water-cooled cPU. I was not able to do a step by step photo time-lapse, due to the intensity of the build. I actually bought 1x 256gb SK Hynix SSD. The case is the NZXT H440 - £79

Noice build! So i take it you love that gpu? How well does it perform? Would you recommend it?

CrayCray_Architect submitter 1 Build 1 point 43 months ago

So far - I am loving the thing, especially the white LED lights that do not over do it, but are simple and a pleasure to look at due to my white, red and black theme. In terms of performance, I've only played World of Tanks & Warships at Ultra with amazing performance. I will be playing Far Cry 4 soon so I cant wait to see the performance on that bad boy. To be honest its too early to say my opinion on the GPU (sorry). However, I would recommend this GPU if you're looking for a step up above the 980 and a step lower of the Titan X.

The 980 Ti actually in a lot of tests, perform better than the Titan X. For 300 buck cheaper too!

The thing is lovely! Playing fallout 4 on ultra and the gpu fans don't even kick in. To say the least, we are talking about fallout which isn't big on the graphic side but its nice to have a silent pc while playing that game!!

So is the Z series MOBO required for the CPU to boost or is that possible on an H or B?

jtabb1256 1 Build 3 points 42 months ago

Z series is necessary for you to overclock. All series will allow the CPU to automatically boost.

Awesome thanks!

CrayCray_Architect submitter 1 Build 1 point 41 months ago

Not actually quite sure. Best to have a look on a forum. Sorry.

Why not ad the k to 6700 for $20? But otherwise very clean looking build! +1

CrayCray_Architect submitter 1 Build 2 points 42 months ago

You will understand why I went for the 6700 (k-less) if you read my description and other comment replies. Thanks for the +1. It looks better in the dark, but picture doesn't do it justice.

Did the colour of the case just change in the last 2 pictures or am I crazy?

WolfenWings 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

Such an overkill motherboard Haha Nice build. I'm also looking at an i7-6700 16 GB ram and 980 ti. Performs well I can imagine.

Sladez 1 point 39 months ago

Nice build but that motherboard really does seem like overkill. You could have saved at least $200 and still got a high-end MB or something like the ASUS Formula around the same price.

Seems like already pretty far into architecture. How is it going?

Grommus 1 point 34 months ago

Awesome build man. +1

How does the 6700 go with gaming?

Atron 1 Build -1 points 42 months ago

Should have bought a 6700k with that mobo since it is designed for overclocking also did you put 2 CPU coolers on by mistake?

CrayCray_Architect submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Haha yep mistake! The i7 6700 does turbo clock of 4.0 GHZ where as the 6700k reaches max of 4.5 which is power I do not need, due to my powerful GPU :)
