This is my first PC Build. My last desktop was a hand-me-down from my parents and when I got my first laptop I never looked back. Now I find that my preferred laptops are smaller and faster 'sports car' varieties that travel with me on the bus, to coffee shops and to the office. So much of my day-to-day is stored in the cloud and I love it. The downside though is that I can no longer sync all my cloud storage in one location. This makes it very difficult to do back ups of the types I like to make. This build will allow me to sync all my online storage. I also hope to use it to management media, entertainment, video and image processing, and gaming. Connecting an external monitor to my laptop is fine but this will eliminate the need. And with content managers it won't feel like a whole separate pc but more like an extension of my digital life.
I started in June 2016 and spent 12 months slowly choosing and ordering parts. A few were donated by friends who were were getting rid of parts that they didn't need anymore. I am happy that with those donations I was able to keep this within a fair budget. I am sure I'll need to upgrade as time goes on but this is a good start. I have 12 months of enjoyment out of it and that is before even putting it together.
I have since put all the parts together and I am happy to say that everything works! I was surprised to learn that the on board motherboard ports would not work with the CPU I chose but fortunately I have a video card anyway. I am quite happy with this build.
