that is some true dedication to a theme it looks awesome! I am super jealous of those beautiful audioengine speakers. +1

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 3 points 8 months ago

Thank you! I love these speakers, but if you want similar on a budget, the Kanto YU2 are close (I'm actually using their stands for this build).

bbogle86 1 Build 4 points 8 months ago

My only comment isnt even about the PC, but you may consider getting like a desk plant or something with some life/color or risk the setup coming off too sterile. Looks clean AF though, nice work!

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

I've thought about it (the plant), not totally against it. But the cat would eat it.

Clean build! Where did u get the desk?

_Roller_ 2 points 8 months ago

Not positive but I think I saw an adjustable height desk like that the last time I went to IKEA. The shelves to the left of it are definitely from IKEA.

SirHalpin 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

they're ALEX 27 1/2" drawers lol I just got one myself for my new desk

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

That's the drawer on the left :) But the desk is a Fully Jarvis.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

In this case, I'm using the Fully Jarvis.

https://www.fully.com/standing-desks/jarvis.html

The Ikea doesn't adjust height as smoothly.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

The desk I'm using is the (formerly) Ergo Depot Jarvis, now called the Fully Jarvis. They seem to have scaled back the options and the price. I hope they didn't also scale back the quality.

spydo111 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Chair?

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 5 months ago

Eurotech iOO in white. TheHumanSolution is the cheapest I can find it.

For about half the price, you can get the Staples Professional Series 1500TF Mesh Back Chair. It looks the same as the black Eurotech model, but it feels cheaper in materials and construction.

Squid_Soup 2 points 5 months ago

Thanks! I plan on getting the red/black one.

Ansonion 2 points 8 months ago

Looks AWESOME but the cable from the keyboard is kinda annoying to me but other than that good pc NICE

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thank you! And me as well. I've already decided that my next keyboard will offer wireless and must fit in with the theme. Tried the Microsoft Modern Keyboard w/Fingerprint ID, but the gray was a bit off. My next bet is the Ducky Blade Air. I'd spring for the Logitech G613 if they offered it in white.

you have the normal gtx the asus gtx is white to im gettin a white themed to very nice ;) but damnnn that pc looks nice and clean

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

I just can't bring myself to buy Asus at this point. I might look at Galax for the next generation of GPUs, but I"ll probably stick with EVGA. Black with white LED still fits in fairly nice, though a backplate would help.

roderick60 2 points 8 months ago

very nice build. i like the white colour of the PC. btw what games do you play?

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

A little of everything. At the moment I'm playing World of Warcraft with the wife, and in my spare time I alternate between Final Fantasy 9 (Steam edition) and Forza Horizon 3.

DasBassDropz 2 points 8 months ago

11/10. that keyboard cable is irritating but thats a hell of a setup

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

I've had bad luck finding the keyboard that I want. My next one has to be wireless and fit in with the theme. A Logitech G613 in white would be great. I'm looking at the Ducky Blade Air w/white keycaps as a strong contender when it releases later this year.

SirHalpin 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

This is a very clean and deliberate setup, I like it a lot. I wish we could see more of the actual PC though, it almost feels like and afterthought due to the lack of internal pictures. Also fangirling over the AKGs, no one else here seems to be appreciating them but as an owner of K702s I approve. I hope to see more pics of the build itself and I can easily see this featured. +1

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

It's a small case, so there really isn't much to show internally. You see pretty much all of it from the photo shown. That said, the external stuff (except the keyboard, looking for a wireless replacement) is there for the long haul. The internals will be upgraded more frequently, and I plan to go with more white components going forward. The current components were transferred in from my prior case.

I'll upload more photos as the build changes :)

And yes, the AKGs are amazing, even if the ones I have are on the budget side of the spectrum.

SirHalpin 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Ah okay, noted. and as for the AKGs, I'd rather have a budget Porche than a Prius Prime Special Edition lol

Looks very nice and clean with the monochrome colors, probably would have been better to get the G610 with just white LED's instead of RGB, because I have found when it's RGB it never gets 'white' right which is the color I too normally want.

Just wanted to ask though, how do you find the 34" at 3440x1440 resolution? How does it compare to a 27" 1440p or a 24" 1080p? Since I have fallen for the mistake of a 27" 1080p monitor before and found the resolution looked slightly blurry due the fewer pixels.

Thanks.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thank you!

Wasn't a fan of the G610, unfortunately. I'ma weirdo who prefers scissor switches first (tried the Microsoft Modern KB w/Fingerprint ID, didn't work out). I like Logitech/Omron Romer-G switches over Cherry MX. I switched from a Ducky Shine 5 to the G810.

If I were to go back to standard Cherry MX switches, it would be the Ducky One 2, but more than likely I'm going to wait for the Ducky Blade Air. I've also managed to get an "almost" white on the keys. Good enough to fool me most of the time, anyway.

As for the monitor question, I've gone through a LOT of monitors lately. I didn't like 24" 1080p, so I mounted that on my daughter's wall with a Chromecast. The last monitor I had was a Dell U2717D, so 27" 1440p. The AW3418DW is just a wider version of that with a similar height and DPI. Games are sharp enough at this DPI that post-process AA and/or 2xMSAA is all I need, whereas when I had my old 27" 1080p monitor I was cranking AA up as high as I could to compensate.

But I did use 27" 1080p for several years before the 1440p switch (the 24" 1080p was a monitor between monitors). Switching to 1440p is an adjustment because the UI looks smaller than I was used to. But going back to 27" 1080p feels claustrophobic by comparison.

RAND0M7 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Oh okay, I thought the G810 was Cherry MX also, I have the G610 and while I like it, the Cherry MX switches are a bit loud, which i don't like and feel is unnecessary.

Yea, I also used a 27" 1080p for a bit, but couldn't stand the pix-elation, I also didn't want to go back to 24" after 27" so I went for a 27" 1440p monitor, and it's been really good, but it does take a little to get used to and adjust for the tiny icons and especially internet browsing such as larger text sizes without enlarging and thus blurring images.

So the DPI on you're monitor is fairly close to 24" 1080p or 27" 1440p? If I were to go for a monitor like that in the future, I wouldn't want it to be another 27" 1080p thing. :)

Thanks. :)

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

while I like it, the Cherry MX switches are a bit loud, which i don't like and feel is unnecessary.

Bingo. That's why I switched to the G810 from the DS5. Yes, Romer-G is still loud, but not AS loud. And sadly, that was with o-rings on the DS5 to limit the noise.

Romer-Gs to me feel like a hybrid between MX Browns with o-rings, and membrane. And their noise is in the middle too. But I'm told that they're an acquired taste. YMMV

especially internet browsing such as larger text sizes without enlarging and thus blurring images.

Yea, I had to change my habits. With 27" and 1080p, my browser was always full screen. At 27" and 1440p, snapping to the left or right was too narrow, but full screen was just too much wasted space. At 34" 1440p, snapping to half the screen is perfect. I love it!

So the DPI on you're monitor is fairly close to 24" 1080p or 27" 1440p?

27" 1440p. It's literally the same height (within 1-2mm), but with extended horizontal pixels. Looks like this.

http://www.displaywars.com/27-inch-16x9-vs-34-inch-21x9

f I were to go for a monitor like that in the future, I wouldn't want it to be another 27" 1080p thing. :)

34" 2560x1080 = 27" 1080p, but wider, and 34" 3440x1440 = 27" 1440p, but wider.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Eurotech iOO. You can get it from The Human Solution in black or white, $560 for the chair, and $592 for chair + headrest.

Some third parties on Amazon have variants as low as $399. YMMV.

Evangeline 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Very nice set up! Did you had any troubles installing the CPU cooler? I am also building the similar cooler but was wondering if you had any difficulties mounting it. Overall awesome job! :D

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thanks!

Yes, the cooler was hell. Normally you'd mouth the cooler, the move the whole setup into the case. But doing that in the H200i means you're not going to be able to connect certain things to the motherboard.

You'll need to be patient, and do the cooler last. And it will be difficult to mount. If I had to do it all over again, I would have waited for the 8400 and B360 boards and used a C7 cooler. This case is built for an AIO, so that's your best bet. I just happen to prefer air.

Evangeline 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Awesome. Thank you for the tips!

Hi! Very nice clean look! Great job 10*10. You work ? or only gaming on this setup ?

I mostly work, sometimes I can play after work. A good picture is important to me. Now I have a dilemma, what monitor to buy Dell-AW3418DW or monitor from LG Ultrawide new 38 inch or 5k ultrawide. Can you tell me how good is image quality on Dell ?

Another reason I'm looking towards Lg is stand)) I do not really like the original stand on Dell. Which monitor mount do you use ? Can you give me link ?

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Hey, sorry for the lack of a quick response.

You work ? or only gaming on this setup ?

Primarily gaming.

Now I have a dilemma, what monitor to buy Dell-AW3418DW or monitor from LG Ultrawide new 38 inch or 5k ultrawide. Can you tell me how good is image quality on Dell ?

The AW3418DW is not factory calibrated, so you'll need a colorimeter if you want a high degree of color accuracy. The gamma was off more than I'd like out of the box, and there's no gamma adjustment in the OSD. The LG you mentioned comes factory calibrated. If you need color critical accuracy. then you should have a colorimeter already anyway. But if you don't, the LG should have better picture quality out of the box. But gaming performance won't be as good.

Another reason I'm looking towards Lg is stand)) I do not really like the original stand on Dell. Which monitor mount do you use ? Can you give me link ?

I have the Ergotech Freedom Arm, but it's really only adequate.

https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-monitor-arms/

Their top choices are all better than mine, so I'd go with one of those.

anvarrua 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 5 months ago

Looks good, glad it all worked out for you :)

imerino 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Very sweet build man... I am doing something similar with mine... Except I am going to be using the Deepcool captain 240EX along with the white Drevo calibur wireless mechanical keyboard and the black G703 just to name a few things.

I used to have a red and black build that was ok just never really built to perfection but having a black and white build just looks so clean, fresh and relaxing I can't wait to finish it.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Except I am going to be using the Deepcool captain 240EX

This was my top choice for an AIO, but after owning one (Kraken x61), I prefer a tower CPU cooler. They are quieter with fewer points of failure. That said, the tower cooler does have its own drawbacks, and the H200/H200i was designed around AIO cooling. I might still go with the AIO in the near future. Need to make up my mind, but if I do, same model as yours.

Drevo calibur wireless mechanical keyboard

I'm currently using a Microsoft Modern Keyboard w/Fingerprint ID. I prefer scissor switches (and yes, this is a change since the photos/build log). Still waiting for a white, low profile, wireless, mechanical keyboard. Some day...

and the black G703

Consider the G603 in that case, if you haven't already. Heavier, but longer battery life. If the G603 came in white, I'd have that instead.

Good luck with your build!

GamingAsesino 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Aweomse build! Plan to build one just like it, but why did you buy static fans for the front intake of your case (140mm Noctua fan), I am a bit confused, I know that for exhaust you chose airflow.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

The NF-A14 are meant to be compromise fans between static pressure and airflow, and they are meant to be used as radiator fans or case fans. These fit the front well without a radiator, or can be used on a 280mm radiator if I ever get one (yes, a 280 will fit, barely).

The reason why I have the mismatch is that the front takes up to 140mm fans, while the rear/top only takes 120mm.

Basically, Noctua NF-S series are for airflow, NF-F series are for static pressure, and NF-A series are a compromise between the two.

GamingAsesino 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Thank you, I was a bit of a dummy in concerns of static pressure/airflow fans, but now I get it. Thanks

Where did you get that chair from? Btw Nice looking setup man, I absolutely love it!!

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Thank you!

The chair is the Raynor Eurotech iOO. It comes in black or white, with or without a headrest. The cheapest I was able to find it from a reputable vendor was here:

Staples also sells a knock off of this for half the price. I've sat in it and compared it, and it uses lower quality materials throughout, but otherwise performs and feels the same. All adjustments are exactly the same, and it even has the same notch for the headrest.

matt44271 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

that monitor seems a bit overkill for the use case, but who cares, its one bomb a** display!

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

I agree. It's basically me dropping a tactical nuke because I couldn't hit my target.

I wanted 2560x1440, and I wanted IPS. I also wanted G-Sync or FreeSync w/LFC because I HATE tearing, and keeping V-Sync on meant maintaining a 60fps minimum to avoid stutter. It was tiresome.

All of the 2560x1440 G-Sync/FreeSync displays were either TN, VA (Freesync only, for now), or AHVA (IPS clone with quality control issues). The LG 34UC98-W lacked 16:9 support with pillarboxing, and lacked LFC (I still bought one to try it). So I said "eff it" and got this. It uses an actual LG IPS display, and it meets or exceeds all of my requirements.

great, clean look build. but why so expensive monitor for budget graphic card? you do not use all of your monitor's capabilities. for that mon gtx 1080ti sweet spot

Velocitron2000 3 points 8 months ago

Well I mean it says in the description that it's used mostly for older titles, that's probably why. Also the 1080 Ti is more than double in price...

baliukas 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

i think better cheaper m2 ssd, cheaper audio system and cpu, but better gpu. But if you gaming not often than its ok

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Different strokes for different folks.

• SSD | I'm keeping this for a long time, so I wanted something with top rated speed and endurance. The system is just for program/game installs anyway, all my actual data is on the NAS (left of the headphones). So, storage amount doesn't matter to me for the system.

• Audio | Not compromising here, sorry.

• CPU | Beefy CPU allows me to upgrade my GPU for 3-4 generations before upgrading my CPU again. If all goes well, I'll upgrade the CPU in 2020/2021 when DDR5 hits mainstream platforms.

Your advice probably works for you. But I've set myself up to where the only upgrade I want is the GPU when the 11-series comes out. If I had done what you suggest, I'd be doing another overhaul sooner than I'd want.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

To be fair, price wasn't the issue (when you add in the desk, chair, networking gear on the shelf, etc., this build topped $5k). My reasoning for having a GTX 1060 are:

• I've always gotten the x50 or x60 product every generation, and given the old card to my wife. She has my GTX 950 2GB right now.

• I'm just now getting to modern titles in my backlog. Since getting a better career, I've had more time for gaming. As such, my GPU needs are going upward.

• I got the GTX 1060 at launch (it's more complicated than that, went through 4 cards, but I've been in this product generation since day one). Literally every part except the PSU has been upgraded since then. I refuse to upgrade again within the same product generation, so I'm waiting for the 11 series.

• One of the GPUs that I used was an RX 480 (with a FreeSync monitor, I experimented) that topped out near 225W. That gets LOUD in a case right next to your head. For me, the GPU needs to be 150W tops so that I can control temps while having a silent fan curve. The GTX 1070 with reference power limit barely makes that spec, so if they do it again next gen, I'll probably go 1170.

But no, not the 1080ti. No way I can get that to be silent in such a small case, unless I undervolt and underclock to 1080-ish performance.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Thanks!

It's a fair question. The GTX 1060 is absolutely underrated for this monitor. And because the case is next to my head, I need to balance between power draw and performance to minimize noise. Due to this I want to keep my GPU at 150W or less (A GTX 1070 with reference power limit would work).

Also, the GPU is one of the oldest parts in the build. I had far simpler needs when I started out. I wasn't planning on going this high for the monitor, but I couldn't find anything else that met my needs (27", 1440p, true IPS, adaptive sync), so I went large to get everything and then some.

When the 11-series comes out, I'll probably go 1170, instead of the normal x50 or x60 I've done in the past. My 1060 can go to my wife and replace her GTX 950.

Isn't that overkill for what you're using it for? It's a nice build, but still...

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

It's not. It suits my needs though a GPU upgrade is due when the 11-series comes out. I'm catching up to the modern titles in my backlog. I'm at the point where I can't max out the next batch of games I'll be playing.

But the whole system is set up nice, so ONLY the GPU needs and upgrade for the next wave of games.

EagleByte 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

Oh, okay. I assumed by "older titles", you meant stuff like Halo: Combat Evolved, or things around that era.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Poor communication on my part.

But I did recently fire up Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) and play it in ultrawide :)

Chair was surprisingly cheap at $592. But you're right, the cost wasn't an issue.

Its the Raynor Eurotech iOO

Official Page (inflated price) - http://www.eurotechseating.com/products/premium/fabric-mesh/ioo-all-mesh-and-fabricmesh-combo

w/o headrest ($560) - https://www.thehumansolution.com/raynor-eurotech-ioo-chair.html

w/ headrest ($52) - https://www.thehumansolution.com/raynor-eurotech-ioo-chair-with-headrest.html

Can choose black or white from both links. And if you search Amazon, you'll find a few 3rd party sellers selling a green or blue one (old stock?) for ~$400, no headrest.

I know price isn't as important. I'm just saying: it's an overkill build for older games and typical office use.

macetotheface 2 points 8 months ago

As with most builds, overkill for OP's use doesn't really matter. If that's what OP wanted, then more power to them. Plus, they said mostly older titles, so if they play something newer then they have the power required.

It's working for my current batch of games, but as I'm getting through the backlog that's not going to fly. I benchmarked the next planned set (GTA V, RotTR, few others) and I have to lower settings. I was hoping the 11-series would be out by now. Instead, I'm going to move more older titles in my backlog to the front of the queue.

I still have a few Square Enix mobile Final Fantasy ports to hold me over :)

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

At the moment, I'm cycling through Final Fantasy 9 (iGPU would be enough), World of Warcraft (maxed settings, 65-85fps outdoors, 100fps locked in dungeons), and Forza Horizon 3 (Ultra, ~60fps average).

But the next wave is going to be tough. I've already benchmarked the games. Tomb Raider 2013 is ~50-60fps at just shy of max settings. GTA V has to run at "high" which is really their medium. RotTR is pretty much medium to get a 60fps average. So yea, I'm going to have to get a new GPU or settle for lower than max settings. I was hoping the GF 11 series would be out before I move on to those games. So I'm going to delay them a bit and move a few more older titles up the queue.

I got mine from Amazon. They are the Audioengine A2+. There's a cheaper knock off if you want to save money called the Kanto YU2 (more color options too).

The speaker stands are the Kanto S2 Speaker Stands in white.

Yeah, but not at 3440x1440 120 fps

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

To be fair, I'ma 60fps gamer. If they had a 60hz version of this monitor for less, or if the LG 34UC98-W supported LFC, those would be my preferences.

I run games like Rocket League and World of Warcraft closer to 100fps (if I run the monitor at 100hz, it develops a color uniformity issue that bothers me), while AAA titles run ~60fps.

The 1060 is underrated for this monitor, but I'll admit, not the ideal pairing.

jaykresge submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I guess I can't edit my typos at this point, so I meant that the uniformity issues occurs at 120hz.

You bring up a fair point. The GTX 1060 is a solid card and vastly underrated for 1440p. Itarget a 60-fps average and G-Sync smooths out the rest. I haven't had a game where I had to do to medium yet, but I'm sure it's coming. The newest title I've played on this setup is Forza Horizon 3, and I can absolutely maintain 60fps at Ultra at this resolution. It's also not a demanding title.
