Description

First build I completed in over 5 years. Love the cable management of the case. Added a GTX 660TI going to go for SLI when I have a few extra coins. :)

1) Why 16GB of RAM ? 2) The MX4 is better than the AS5 IMO. 3) The MSI Mpower beats the Sabertooth by far and is still black. 4) Why not the Samsung 840 over the Sandisk Ultra ? 5) For 40$ more (the one saved with the RAM for example), you could've got a GTX 770 or a 7970 :). 6) You should've waited for the R2 my dear !

Except that, good build, but grainy pics ;)

Ps : I'm harsh prolly, my apologies.

Harsh, but you got your point out there, and they were very valid points too. For the price, you should have gone with something more like a 7950 or saved some money for something else and gotten a 7870 XT (if you could have - they go out of stock often)

Comments always welcome :) 16GB ram was go big go home type of upgrade. :) Sabertooth... yea I fell into that I like the way it looks. As for SSD drives this was something I wasnt to sure about. Waiting... Yea I hate waiting lol.

Well, the R2 is at 99.99 right now, too bad ;). As for the RAM and the rest, I was just wondering, it's your build my dear, but thank you for the explanations. And yeah, that Sabertooth looks kickass, I almost went for it (since I'm doing a white & black sheme in a Define R4).

Why do people buy the Sabertooth? You would have been better off with an ud3h and a 7970.

I've always liked Asus products it was more of a personal preference with going with this motherboard.

You could have gone with a cheaper Asus board, the Sabertooth is only good for its looks in really high end builds.

Not gonna comment about the Sabertooth or the ti and what you could've gotten, I'm gonna comment on what you have.

Okay, the rosewill power supply is maybe not the best way of powering this, I've heard some bad stuff about them.

I hope for the safety of your files that the Sandisk is stable, I've also heard some stuff about them not being so reliable.

Atleast you got the OEM version, because I've seen a lot of people on this side going for the non OEM ultra version and that's pretty damn expensive

The TI is not the best card for that price range, still a reasonable card, when you have 3 screens it good you got the 3 gb version of it.

Any reason for having 16gb of 1866 ram?

Guess you like Xigmatek a lot, hehe

Modular is the way to go if you really want AWESOME cable management, so i would suggest that if yoy really want awesome cable management, you did a pretty good job in all regards of it being none modular. EDIT: It's actually semi-modular, didn't know that

WHen you're doing more then one monitor, try getting the same all the way or atleast the same size.

You can't base your assumptions on things you heard sometime somewhere, if you want a decent build you have to base your assumptions on test, facts and results, at least that's my opinion. The Capstone is a great bang for the buck.

The Sandisk is quite stable, do some research about it, you'll see, it's not as good as the Extreme II (from Sandisk as well) or the Samsung 840 Pro, but still, a good drive, especially for the price.

Oooh, Xigmatek Dark Knight. Gotta love those things, just wish they weren't so expensive (they used to be about $30)

Cheaper than the h80, and they outperform them.

Yea I was going to use stock but the looks of the dark knight said why not lol

I'm gonna let someone else argue why the Sabertooth isn't that great.

  • 2 points

Wasn't arguing and bro the Z77 Sabertooth is good for how longits warranty is!

Besides he has already bought the computer no point in saying sabertooth isn't good well too bad he already bought!

  • 2 points

I didn't say you were arguing. I know he already bought it, but I'm pretty convinced that there are better motherboards than the Sabertooth in its price range.

  • 2 points

Yea there are better motherboards with 3 year warranty what is so special about the SABERTOOTH is it has 5 year warranty no company will make something that would Die before it's warranty!

Nothing I can criticize, except if you were going to do an Nvidia equivalent of EyeFinity, then your monitors with seam kinda awkward.

Monitors were more of what I had already. In process of researching new ones

wrong parts. 660 ti and g15. In addition you wasted money on the z77 mobo and aftermarket cooler if you're sticking with non k EDIT: since i commented this the list has been changed I apologize.

What is that white cable for? It runs from bottom of mobo, over PSU, to back case.

  • 2 points

It looks like it gives you a USB 3.0 port at the back. The case probably didn't have it.

  • 2 points

that's what I was thinking too, but I thought with front USB and the rear mobo USB, they would be enough. I have 8 USB ports on my rig, and usually 5/6 are populated; not sure why a need for more.

Extra 2 USB Ports in the back.
