Phantom Build (Mr-Rabit)

GPU Effective Memory Clock Rate

I'm a student studying software engineering & i am a part time web developer. This being said, i can sometimes place a large load on my machines. So i built this machine soley for this purpose. So far i'm very happy. The CPU demand hasn't passed 20%. I would however buy a larger case next time.

I think the i7 would have done just fine for your needs however I don't see what you do on a day to day basis so I'm just guessing. Could have gotten the H100i and much better GPU had you saved some money on the CPU/MOBO.

All in all though a nice solid build, +1 from me

I would have gone with a 4770k, even if you put a lot of load on your processor, this chip can have incredible value if you overclock it enough, and a 4770k would leave room in your budget for an H100i, and also a better video card for some gaming in your down time :). Your quad channel ram should be useful and so will the SSD, all in all I think this build will see you well for the next few years.

why not go with a 7950 instead of a 660.

Maybe he needs CUDA cores.

Engineering software lately has been using more OpenCL though

I found that I had plenty of room for my build (I also used a Phantom 410) although I didn't watercool, that'll be in the future. Speaking of that, how was the instillation?
