Description

I live in Brooklyn so space is a factor. I picked most my parts because I wanted it to run OSX and play games in a microATX form factor. Pretty much its a hackintosh with a gtx970. It's not the prettiest inside. But its effective and runs surprisingly cool.

Case: The case was where I started. The Rosewill Legacy U3 is the smallest microATX I could find. If it had an intake fan and dust filters it would be perfect. One thing to note is that this case sucks for hard drives. Theres literally no space for them. They say you can do 2x 3.5" drives or 2x SSDs and 1x 3.5"drive. This is impossible if you have a big heatsink. Luckily I only had 2 SSDs.

Heatsink & Fans: I wanted silence so I went with Noctua fans. I heard the fan that comes with this case was terrible so i got another one for the case. It's true. Its dead silent.

CPU: i7 4790k because I can.

Memory: 32gb because I can.

GPU: GTX970 because I can.

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GS Power Supply to match the EVGA GPU and the silent idle mode.

Monitor (not listed): Acer G257HU smidpx 25-Inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) Widescreen Monitor 1440p for $278.97

Nice build. I liked your "because I can" reasoning. Good enough for me.

Really nice rig! Also the "Because I can" is perfect! Your desk setup is pretty slick....although your speaker is bigger then your tower....lol maybe toss another noctua on the back of the CPU cooler? You know it's a bit ....ghetto but you could always drop a fan or 2 at the bottom for intake and relocate your ssd.

That's my plan! Im gonna throw another fan on the cpu eventually. Right now im getting about 65c on my cpu while playing FarCry4 at full settings on 1440p. About 28c on idle.

I don't know about the intake fan on the bottom. I barely have room and I want another ssd down there.

Thanks!

Looks great, excellent parts. And, let us know when Lord Nikon* is coming by to give it his seal of approval.

I'm thinking of going with a similar build to this but I would need a wifi/bluetooth card in there. Is there room for one of these in the case? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-wireless-network-card-gcwb867di

it looks like theres room for that. I think you can put the graphics card in the lower slots too. That will definitely make room if you did that.

How's the monitor? It's pretty cheap for an IPS 1440P monitor, and I've been eyeing it for a while now.

The monitor is pretty good. The build quality is kinda cheap and there is no way to mount it to an arm and the stand is a little wobbly when I bump my desk. But all the things that do matter are great. The screen looks great I use it mostly for design and general computing. Ive played advanced warfare, far cry and CS GO. Everything works great.

If you only need a monitor infront of you its a great option at an even better price.

I'm planning to build a PC like yours. I've a little question/concern... Using the Noctua U12S cpu cooler is it possible to mount the side panel that comes with the case? I want to use it to mount a 3.5" HDD there. Thanks a lot!

Ok a slight update. I had to mount an intake fan on the bottom so the video card wouldnt over heat. I moved some HDs to the side panel. But I had to firs cut a 1 inch chunk out of it so it wouldnt hit the U12S. slightly annoying but its still a great case.

I'm guessing no trouble fitting the EVGA 970 in there? I just ordered this and am moving my Small but TUF build to it.
