Changed my case from a Fractal Design Node 304 too the Nano S and I'm very happy with the results. I also upgraded the CPU cooler from a Artic Freezer 7 to the excellent Be Quiet Pure Rock.

It became apparent that my CPU & GPU was throttling in the Node as there was just to much heat being generated and the exhaust fan could not shift it fast enough.

I bit the bullet and went for the Nano S from Fractal Design (I wanted to stay with Mini ITX) and it is nothing shy of fantastic.

The rebuild was lengthy as cable management is not my forte but I'm very happy with the results as my PC can not only breath but runs super cool compared to the Node.

The system is almost silent due to the two 140mm fans pulling air in from the front, through the Pure Rock 120mm cooler and out the back through a 120mm exhaust.

The temps are after an hour of being flogged on Prime which I then quit as I was going out, the CPU is overclocked to 4.2 Ghz.

Building in the Define S was a pleasure (I don't normally enjoy building) due to it's simplistic design and excellent cable management.

This machine was obviously built for gaming and it smashes anything thrown at it, currently playing The Divison and Witcher 3 at 3440 x1440 with everything to Ultra and performance is exceptional, I noticed a big boost in performance when switching cases.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Swapped my Corsair H100i GTX to this, Why I hear you ask? Well because my PC sounded like a fish tank and my CPU is only 2 degrees hotter when under load and overclocked.

The cooler looks great, simple to install and hardly makes a noise under load.

Thank god for German engineering.

Epic motherboard and overclocks like a boss! I't truly impressed at the high performance out of such a small motherboard.

Well it's a Fractal Design R5 but smaller, much smaller. This case was a pleasure to work with and airflow is exceptional, looks fantastic too.

3440x1440 is on another level: For productivity, there is NO going back to any resolution apart from 3440x1440 for me. 21:9 aspect ratio is mind boggling, and in my opinion, is better than a single 4K monitor.

Port Orientation: Acer nailed. Both the DisplayPort and HDMI ports are easily accessible, where you do not have to get under the monitor to plug them in at a 90-degree angle.

Productivity Nuts Will Love It: 3440x1440 is a huge upgrade to say two 1080p monitors. I'll say this about every single UltraWide display - 3440x1440 is leaps and bounds ahead. The shift from 1080p or even 1440p is quite noticeable, and not just for gaming - productivity is just great at 3440x1440.

100Hz! G-Sync!: The jump to 100Hz is an absolute game changer. Add NVIDIA's G-Sync technology into the mix and you have the best UltraWide gaming display, when I frist loaded Witcher I was honestly speechless.

Aesthetics - It has pinash! The Predator logo and the red and black styling looks menacing. The Predator X34 is a mean looking monitor.

Does the PSU choke the Graphics card since there's so little clearance? How are the gpu temps during gaming?

tush458 1 point 34 months ago

i would like to know this too

Aes 1 point 33 months ago

If you look at the details section in the description, you can see the temps for the CPU and GPU.

About time I saw a Predator x34! It seems as if you like Fractal Design a lot? +1

HansLanda007 submitter 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

Yeah I love the monitor as the picture quality and aspect ratio is superb. Fractal Design just seems to work for me.

NitroOG 2 points 35 months ago

Nice build.

What desk is that? Looking for something very similiar...

HansLanda007 submitter 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

It's a great desk with solid build quality and a great price too

Nice Ride man... great car. The design looks killer but needs to be cleaned up otherwise great build.

HansLanda007 submitter 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

There was me thinking it was clean :(

dzulqushairi 2 points 35 months ago

Nice build! Can you measure the length limit of the gpu without touching the front fans? Fractal design web page said 315mm but after seeing your build, I kinda doubt about it.

HansLanda007 submitter 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

No problem, I shall measure later when home from work.

HansLanda007 submitter 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

Ok so there is 40mm between the GPU and the lower fan, if you go without a lower fan that gets you another 25mm.

dzulqushairi 2 points 35 months ago

Thanks !!

your rig it's fantastic also because i love mini-itx pcs (probably because you cannot build them if you don't know how to create a tiny machine) :P +1

HansLanda007 submitter 1 Build 2 points 35 months ago

Cheers and glad you like, yes I love mini-ITX and I feel very happy with the results.

Did you not choose a h110 cpu cooler or similar cos the msi is too long to fit rad and fans?

Trying to choose between this case and a corsair air 240.

What FPS do you get @ 1440p in the division? And at what settings?

HansLanda007 submitter 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

I initially upgraded with the Corsair Hydro Series H110i GTX Extreme.

The radiator fits in the front of the case with removal of case fans or you can mount it to the ceiling of the case and unclip the dust protector.

The Corsair was a nice fit to be honest but my PC sounded like a fish tank under load and only kept the CPU a couple of degrees cooler. So for a fraction of the price I sent the H100i back and bought the excellent Be Quiet (Which is extremely quiet even under load and overclocked).

With regards to division everything on ultra apart from world reflections which are set to medium, my FPS stays at 60 outdoors, 70+ underground and slight dip below 60 when moving camera fast outdoors but GSYNC compensates nicely.

synergyi 1 point 35 months ago

but did the msi 980ti fit with a rad and fans?

Is your your screen not oced to 100hz? thought you would be hitting over 60fps constantly

HansLanda007 submitter 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

Yes the GPU fits with the rad and fans.

I turn the OC of the screen on and off depending on what I'm doing and the division just does not need more than 60fps, 60FPS is pretty much constant when not OCd the dips are minor and not noticeable unless FPS counter is on.

To run division at that resolution with everything to ultra bar one setting at 60FPS is an achievement as the game is not the best optimised, 3440x1440 raw pixel count increases by 33 per cent compared to 2560x1440 so that takes more GPU power.

Hey man really nice build. I am looking for something similar. I love the case it is really small and spacious at the same time. After 1080s realease I fell in love with EVGA 1080 classified but seeing it is really tall card I have my worries it might not fit. Could you please measure the maximum height you can fit in the case please? I would really appreciate it :) Oh and one more thing do you have any thermal issues with your card? since it is so close to the PSU? I was kinda worried that other than blower style might be starved for air. Thank you for your response :)
