Description

My plan was to buy a gaming laptop as I am traveling away to study. But because of the delay with intel new gen, I cannot wait any longer. I make my decision to build my 1st Mini-ITX PC! After long search I came up with these parts, and because of the stock supply I am still waiting for all parts to complete this build (being more than a month). Hopefully this going to work at end...

UserBenchmark

~sorry for my bad English

RAM: I ordered G.Skill TridentZ 3200 CL14 16GB and it fit with 44mm height.

Gelid Thermal Pad: I use them to fill the gap between the M.2 SSD and the case. I read that Samsung M.2 SSD can reach 100°C, So I will try to use thermal pad to cool it down as with the full aluminum case.

ASRock Z170 Gaming-ITX/ac: Because of the limited option available with futures I need. I select this as it support M.2 2280 SSD, USB type C, USB 3.1/3.0 and has intel LAN.

G700s & Crosair Void: As most of Mini-ITX, I will connect my PC with TV. So I prefer to have wireless flexibility, and those really are my 1st gaming headset and mouse...

Asus 980 Ti Strix: I used my old HD 7850 until Nvidia pascal released.

Cooler Master Seidon 120V Ver.2: I don't really remember why I select this cooler, but I was thinking to try something different or maybe the price. Since, the reviews I found for ver.1 were good, so I thought why not to go with ver.2! (silly me)

Prolimatech PRO-USV14: The Cooler Master Fan is 25mm thick. It wont fit in the case, and case cpu fan opening is bigger than 120mm. I select this 140mm fan with 120mm fan mount. I read it's silent option to push more air than the case stack fans.

Part Reviews

Storage

Theoretically fast, but no sensible performance on normal activities. As it becomes hot, I use Gelider pads to cool it down to 30°C idle & 37ºC max

Mouse

Pros Range, driver, Macro keys, free scroll wheel option.

Cons somewhat heavy for claw grip, battery dies very fast (recharging every day even with low-performance mode), Scroll wheel is not steady on fast/free mode and can easily move as you use the mouse (not good in games), sometimes lifting the mouse make you miss click the side buttons.

Headphones

Pros . light & comfy headset (not for long time +4 hrs), battery, range.

Cons. echos & mixed music sound when turn on Dolby 7.1, no deep bass (sub-woofer level), noise at high pitch sound, driver (no 7.1 channel test, new driver make windows recognized it as 7.1), mic noise, unchangeable ear cups, no USB base or extended cable, slips when moving face down, Annoying beep sound when battery is low (cannot be disabled).

Lovely build, especially with those silverstone parts.

Send back that cooler, I had one and my i7 4790k with no OC hit 90 C I dread to think what your would get to

2ool submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Aw, thanks for notification. I don't know if I can send it back since I use some glue to fix screw holes. But I hope this model is OK. I will update temp once I test it.

Atron 1 Build 2 points 42 months ago

I replaced mine with a Noctua U9S which is far far better, my max temps are 65C with no OC which Im fine with so I may push it to 4.4Ghz and see what happens

2ool submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

You are right. I just start up my PC and first thing I notice is the CPU temp 45°C. I don't know what is wrong, this is quite high temperature. And I don't know how to monitor system temperature inside windows. I didn't find any utility comes with ASRock.

Atron 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Yeah it bad huh, though water coolers are hotter than air at low usage but air is higher at high useage you want to be careful using that cooler, if you do switch which I highly advise, go for a coolermaster gemin 2 m4 https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rrgmm416pkr2 I checked your case height and this fits since your case has space for an 80mm cooler and this is 59mm so this will fit perfectly

This looks like an unforgiving case with cable management, good job on what you accomplished :) +1

Thanks! without having SATA drives things went less messy :)

Really nice looking mini! Your parts list shows 2 different RAM kits but can't see any installed in the pics?

2ool submitter 1 Build 1 point 42 months ago

Thanks! The GeIL Dragon is still pre-order. So I order the other one as it was suppose to be shipped yesterday, But Nope (ground courier is nightmare here).

Does the headphone mic fold up?

2ool submitter 1 Build 1 point 35 months ago

Yes it could be fold up like in this image

I am looking at this case now as well. In your first photo you have horizontal? Is the airflow OK with it horizontal? I want to put it under my TV and it would have just over an inch of clearance on top and open on sides and behind the case. Thanks.

2ool submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

The airflow was ok as this case comes with 4 rubber feets (1 cm height) for the horizontal position. But I used it in vertical as it has more airflow and less dust collection. I think having 1 cm clearance is minimum, and having it open from sides will help airflow goes out.

Thanks for the suggestions 2ool. Added those cases to my research list. I read Zunido's build already. Sounds like a nice set up and fits my tv stand

Was it you who managed to get the Prolimatech Sleek cooler listed into the PCP inventory and if so - how? I've installed 2 of the same fans but in black. I can get them listed with proper URLs in my parts list - but not in the PCP inventory?

2ool submitter 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

Sorry for the late reply. But it wasn't me!

BDP 1 Build 1 point 1 month ago

No worries - I managed to get it sorted thanks for coming back
