Description

This is my second computer ive built but the first time i had use my own money. :x So for this money was definitely a concern but i wanted something to be proud of too. Took around 6 months staring at part boxes to finally have all the parts together purchased and ready to build. Im happy with what i ended up making. also one other thing. i avoided leds. my last pc had a ton and i have a tendency to leave my pc on over night. bright red lights dont help me sleep.

CPU : I chose the cpu because as from what ive seen it was fairly popular, easily overclockable and was $30 cheaper than a 4670k around the time i bought this part. Not regretting it as it still monster.

Cooler: Everyone has h series and evos, i wanted a different look. i couldve thrown in the h50 from my old rig but i didnt. found the Gemeni and loved the fact that it faces you and hangs over the ram. I stuck a corsair 140mm on it to make it look sexier.

MOBO : I wanted a z77 that i could sli in the future. the g45 was the cheapest of handful that met that criteria and i havent had problems with it except i had to flash the bios to support the 3.0 headers on my case. easy peezy.

RAM : All ram right now its pretty much the same price so wasnt gonna just choose the brand x ram and settle. I saw this ram and dropped my card on it quick. was on sale on newegg, spreaders were blue to match my board and it has cas 8 latency. yay!

SSD : I was gonna settle for a evo but then i saw Frys had a sale on the pro so i took that. My first SSD, never gonna live without one.

HDD : took the old hdd from my first build. 64mb cache, 6g, and 7200 rpm. not too shabby. never been a person to obsess over how many terabytes are in my pc. i dont download videos and i keep my game selection small.

GPU : Wasnt too sure what route to go but found a deal on a 660 ti for 199.99, took that mess. i put 220 just cause of taxes. dont think i save that much money.

Case : love corsair, love side windows, love micro boards, loved this case. right when i ordered it, newegg put it up for 80. gawdamitnewegg..

PSU : not power greedy. semi modular for 60 bucks, sure ! should handle a sli setup when i feel like spending again.

Keyboard/Mouse : cheap gigabyte gaming mouse. miss my intellimouse cuz i had used that mouse for 10 years. it finally broke and didnt wanna spend alot. keyboard i got a steal. bestbuy had a sale to drop it to 60-ish had a student coupon to drop 35 off. only paid 28 plus tax/shipping.

Dat CPU cooler: +1 for uniqueness.

The reason people use top down coolers is because of necessity (space concerns mostly). They tend to not cool as well as the traditional style or you pay the price with noise levels. http://www.frostytech.com/top5_lowprofile_heatsinks.cfm

good build tho

Never seen that cooler used before, how does it perform compared to an evo? +1 for dat cooler and dat case :)

Evo is taller but it cools better. Sticking the corsair fan on the geminII has definitely made mine quieter than the stock on either. I chose the geminII because of a attractive appearance/performance ratio. It will get the job done for sure.

My sons little gaming rig is going to be using the Gemin II, but his will be mounted on an FX-8350... we also liked how unique the Gemin looked. We aren't keeping the stock fan either, we switched it for the Coolermaster JetFlo fan with the blue leds... it's gonna look killer. I'll post some pics here on this website when it's done soon.

It definitely gives it originality, and the corsair fan looks badass on it! Might get that instead of an evo..
