Description

Updated:

1.New gpu 1060 from a 780 ti

2.New copper IHS and a delid

3.New UltraViolet XSPC cooland and UV lights

This is my Project: HTPC updated

Originally built 2/16, rebuilt on 8/17, water-cooled on 2/18, updated on 5/18

First off... I call it an HTPC because that is what it is used for. This is my Project: HTPC build in my movie room that I have a 135" projector screen. We mainly watch shows and movies and do the occasional gaming on it. but it is my home theater pc!

What I changed:

1.I went from a 780 ti to a 1060 GTX, and I know it was a lateral move but I was having driver issues on newer games crashing on me. The 780 ti was a great card for what I was using this for it's just starting to lack driver support and some stability issues. (Why did I block a 1060?? This build was already setup with full loop and I wasn't planning on changing that or spending too much money on a gpu that will only see 1080p @ 60Hz. I have my Zombie Hunter 2 build with a 1080 ti for that!! )

2.I delided the 6700k because even with water it wasn't running as cool as I expected and I figured while I'm doing the gpu swap I might as well do a delid. Also was interested in the copper IHS so it was only $20 so I figured.....why not! I figure I'll be keeping this cpu for a long time so I might as well get the best out of it. I oc'd to 4.7ghz but haven't tried anymore and probably comfortable with this oc

3.I also ditched the RGB lights for UltraViolet!!! I added clear UltraViolet dye to the white XSPC coolant!

Thank you for looking!!!

Fantastic looking build. Putting a custom water loop in a HTPC makes me squeamish though - I'd be afraid the subwoofer vibrations might shake something loose :s

Any spraypaint? I want to do that with an old case, but not sure if it matters. If the spraypaint needs to have a sealant

Quick question, did you put that valve on an "out" port or an "in" port? I thought the XSPC Photons had one "out" ports and two "in" port. I am planning on using one of them for my next build, so a response would be great.

  • 1 point

The out port is the first one on the left and the middle and right one are in ports. So in port is what I used.

How did you get the red trim off the Trident Z ram for painting? I want to paint the trim itself, not the spreaders.

Those are just lightly clamped on. A small flat head would do the trick

I would never be able to tell that is a practice water cooling build. It looks extremely professional and very eye catching. Great job.

  • 1 point

Yeah the Project XEON build was the practice build. I did add extra love to it because it was my very first loop and I don't half fast anything either. It was nice and pretty but now it is Project HTPC!!

  • 1 point

None of those components say HTPC to me, nor do they seem to serve any consistent purpose, really. Looks nice though.

  • 1 point

Htpc is a home theater pc. Thats truly is what I use this for. It sits in a movie theater room. I with a huge projector for movies and the occasional gaming.... I have another build that holds a 1080 ti for gaming.

Thank you for looking and a appreciate the compliment!

This is my first time building a computer and I'm using this build. Great job by the way! I don't see tubes for the water cooling system listed in the parts list. Can you link it? Also, do you have an instructional video of you building it? I'm pretty new to this stuff and I'm sure I have my work cut out for me.

The tubes in used are primochill 1/2" and primochill fittings. Very important to try to keep same brand of tubes and fittings and definitely same size.... Definitely!!

This is my third watercooled build. I have 3 in my list of builds. Prior to my first I watches a lot of YouTube videos. Jayztwocents is great and others. Ask lots and lots of questions and pay attention to pre cleaning and type of coolant or dye you might use. It is sooooo much fun!!

Hope that helps and ask more if you need. Thanks for looking. Oh and I have videos but not tutorials. customgtp on YouTube

I was talking about the 7k3000, is it maybe a bit loud or disturbing?

  • 1 point

No. I hear nothing.... The Hitachi 2tb drives are in the rear behind tempered glass so if they are making any kind of noise I can't hear them. I have 2 3tb ones in my Zombie Hunter 2 build also and that's in an in win 303 case. Don't hear those either
