Description

This build is technically a new build but it has actually been in another form prior to this. 4k Evolution by Father and Son was this build but we took a different route and decided to have a little more fun with it and liven it up. My kids and I are beyond in love with this build. We game heavily on it and I also design on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The ultra-wide is excellent for graphics design, and gaming:-) We play a wide variety of games and this thing slays everything we throw at it. We are truly blessed!! Hope you enjoy. This build actually had quite a few problems. The Gigabyte Gaming 7 Z-170X died on me, then the case power button ceased to function and I had to exchange it, 1 stick of the 16gb G.Skill was bad, and now the LED's have failed too. It is finally finished as I have been eager to submit this one.

EDIT: I have changed so many things and I am finally happy with the results. the addition to an Oculus VR for racing , flying sim, and space games(Eve and Elite dangerous). This build has been epic to say the least. I think its time to do another one and leave this one be:-)

If it means i get to use that PC can you adopt me?

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

I have three kids already and I'm a single dad so I may be able to adopt you but you probably won't get a PC:-D

Mason54 12 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Daaaaannggg iit. Oh well, still a nice build. +1 all day

s.a.wood15 2 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

+1 for a beautiful build! I can't wait to help my little guy build his first PC. As I always say, a family that games together stays together :)

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

It's a great experience, I have 3 so they all chipped in and I teach them how to do it along the way. I hope they will all be as tech savvy as dad when they are older.

PigWithAMustache 2 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

Damn your kids are spoiled. This is the rig that they will grow up with. Wow thats deep... But how did you configure the storage?

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

I was going to do a raid 0 but I neglected to do enough homework when shopping. Even with DMI 3.0 for the m.2 slots there was not enough pcie lanes to do 2 Samsung 950 pro's and SLI video cards. So at the moment I am pondering what to do and doing a little more research.

PigWithAMustache 2 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

You could put the 2 m.2 drives in raid 0, ssd for games, and hdd for backup all while using one raid array

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Unfortunately with SLI cards I am unable to use both m.2 slots. I failed to do enough homework when I put the part list together I guess. I though there would be enough PCIE lanes but there was not. I guess you must go X99 if you want raid 0 and SLI.

Powerful build!

+1

goneferal42 2 points 8 months ago

Very nice. You do know on a Z170 board your GPU's will be running x16 and x8, right?

alneal2787 1 Build 2 points 8 months ago

I grew up with a gateway.... and my mom worked with computers! Where were you when I was 16 and playing too many hours of City of Heroes!? Love this build by the way! :)

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Hahaha thanks man.

lunaquin 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Nice! I did mine with my kids and they loved it. How are the gpu temps?

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Well before I updated the gpu bios the top card was getting up to 80+ Celsius. Sometimes to 84c. But after I updated and it corrected the error with custom fan curves I get around 55-60 c on the bottom and around 75 on the top card. I was reluctant to sli them so close together but it works just great. Its a beast of a machine.

lunaquin 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Nice, for them being so close the temps aren't bad at all. I have SLI 1080s, but they ran cooler before the update :(

chubble123123 2 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

How good are those corsair RGB fans, would you reccommend also how is the orange.

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

The ML (Magnetic Levitation) cans are excellent. They perform better at a lower noise. AND much cooler looking:-)

chubble123123 2 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

By the way lovely build. +1

Thank you. I wish I had better quality pictures, my 5 year old destroyed my camera with water so I am reduced to iphone pics!

Wow

Duncan034 3 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Are you aware of the problems EVGA 10 series cards have been having with their Thermal Padding (or their lack thereof)? Other than that great build.

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

Yes I have heard of it, I haven't had issues with it. I did however have problems with the fan curve but the updated GPu bios fixed the issues I was having. Brought temps down by over 10c.

Fitz03 1 point 8 months ago

I'm building a similar setup as yours and after seeing that SLI setup, it worries me a bit. I imagine there was no way possible to fit the card on the last PCI-e?

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 2 points 8 months ago

No not with this case, I suppose if the shroud for the power supply was removed you could maybe, but I'm pretty sure that would compromise the stability of the case. I wouldn't try though. But my temps are fine, top card doesn't get hotter than 74 or 75 and the bottom cards days in between upper 50s to mid 60s. I was concerned at first but after upgrading the firmware on the cards the fan curve problem was taken care of and they actually worked and cooled my cards much better.

Skanksndanks 1 point 8 months ago

Awesome build! I have the xpower edition of that motherboard and I can't decide beween the galaxy silver or anthracite version of that case.

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 8 months ago

I was torn too. I have the gigabyte gaming 7Z170 X first and I thought it had died on me so I swapped out for this MSI. I like them both but I kind of like the gigabyte board better. But the case is great it has tons of cable management options and it just looks so good.

rafdesign 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

Hello, I was wondering since you built this PC a while ago how is your experience with Adobe Illustrator and/or Photoshop? I'm having problem with my MSI NVIDIA GTX 970 and Adobe CC 2015.5 with slow downs and crashes. I am wondering if people with different cards have a better result. Thanks!

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 7 months ago

I have had zero issues In regards to the adobe applications I am running. They are stand alone and not in the Creative Cloud Suite. Not sure if that makes a difference.

rafdesign 1 Build 1 point 7 months ago

Thanks for your input.

ctf05 1 point 8 months ago

I like your setup and i'm considering making my own PC. Would this setup be good? It's for gaming. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7GNK2R

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 7 months ago

That is a hefty build. The pro models on the sata ssd's really don't have enough gains to justify buying them over an evo. I would go with 2 1tb evo's and scrap the 256. unless you just want a dedicated os drive. I've never beena fan of zotac either. MSI gaming x or EVGA have always been my preferred vendors. But That is a very solid build. And are you sure you ant three montors instead of maybe a 34 ultrawide with gsyc? The acer predator x34 or Asus PG348Q are 1440p/100hz gsync and very nice. I just got the predator myself.

PCpeace84 1 point 5 months ago

Gorgeous build! Any problems with the build? Thanks for sharing.

jack.38 1 point 4 months ago

Hey does this 1070 come with a backplate?

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

Yes it does.

plzDonateAgame 1 point 3 months ago

Jesus Christ! This is a very creative way to tell everyone on this website that you're rich lmao. What kind of job do you HAVE??? Also, how many case fans do you recommend for someone on a budget?

ians907 submitter 4 Builds 1 point 3 months ago

i work in oilfield construction, I now have switched this out to a msi X9 9 carbon gaming pro, and i7 6850k. I have 3 120 mm rgb thermaltake riing fans up top, my 240 mm radiator front mounted with a push-pull and a 140 mm in the back. So a total of 9 fans!

plzDonateAgame 1 point 3 months ago

Takes off glasses slowly "Dear God" Omg dude! You're rich as heck! You should cough ummmm buy me cough a graphics card cough cough But seriously. I'm only getting 3 fans lol. Also(not being a beggar or anything), got any spare games you don't want? Kinda the point of my username.

plzDonateAgame 1 point 3 months ago
