Description

This was a teardown of a Hp 810qe and build of this machine and another SFF remake. My only advice/note, it that the cooler's radiator required a push/pull as it would fit as a direct mount to the case.

can we get a picture showing the INSIDE of the case, as that is where all the parts are?

I'll get one up in the next few hours or so... I commented on another build I liked, thus had to set up an account, and decided to put my latest in here for sh#ts and grins as an after thought.

Why the gtx 760 over the much-higher-performing, same-price-costing r9 280?

I wouldn't say MUCH higher performing..but def a performance increase...however, for this build I would expect something like 970-80..or even a 290.

And, an even better question, why the i7 and 16gb ram with a very mid-range gfx card? Really imbalanced for gaming.

Long story... I started with this HP "gamer" PC...an 810-135qe came my way. As I started playing with it, I quickly realized how fubar the thing was (and that was factory spec)... The BIOS/UEFI GUI was made by clowns, it wouldn't accept even a simple HDD addition, and the list goes on (lots of executables hidden from even the admin/owner). I eventually got through that but ended up hating the thing with an unhealthy passion, so I decided to make it a junk yard, and build a new machine and while also turning an old business SFF into a Frankenstein (spares going both places).

Making a long story short, the card was a left over of me trying to get the HP to man up.

I was just looking at replacements 2 minutes ago... Micro Center had a nice deal on an Asus 970 GTX that sold out today (came with a free UBS game), so I'm back to 10K' looking for the next target... Chime in please... I didn't mention that this box still has plenty of room inside and has three push/in and four out (3 push and one pull) 120mm fans all on voltage control... The sky is the limit for now, but there are two 2 2TB WD Blacks in there that will go live at some point, and another SSD on the way as well (5 drives, the CPU, 6 fans... the 750 PSU will be broke with too much on the GPU.

As far as the memory goes, it's still too little... I run several OSs, VMs, and sometime bottom out the 16GB pair with just a one large DB, some moderately complicated calcs, and one too many browser pages open. It will be at 32GB end of week, so I don't have to think about it again.

BTW... It had been well over 10 years since I physically did a build, so I got a nice kick out of it... These SFF things are beasts... I'm doing one from scratch with a i7-2600 soon... The one I mentioned above was 10x the riddle of the Antec/Haswell...

Maybe this isn't for gaming, maybe it is for editing...

Internal pics please, and reason for only a 760 with a 4770k? Not that it's a bad card...seems a bit unbalanced unless you don't plan on gaming.

is this for gaming?
