Description

I am using this simple machine as a plex media server for my movies and music. It will also be used on occasion as a travel pc. The hardware started out as a Dell Inspiron 620 i had lying around. I wanted to breath new life into it and also i had several very good parts left over from other builds. I frankensteined them together for a very complete and capable machine for all my needs. All of my 1080p movies are each under 2 Gb so for now the 3 Tb is plenty. Yes it can also game very well. The power supply has been switched upsidedown because this may be placed on carpet at times.

That second gen i5 is still a very capable CPU. I'm also digging the plain green PCB motherboard. Don't see those often enough anymore.

Nice work!

Thank you. As soon as i took the mobo out i was shocked at how green it was. It had been a while since i seen those kind. It's a reminder of days past for sure haha.

That’s not the correct graphics card you’ve picked from the list, yours isn’t the gaming model because it doesn’t have a backplate or front logo LEDs. The one you have is the one I bought, how is the performance? I am still to build my pc haha.

This wont be used for gaming, It does well in all 1080p. From my experience, the difference between the "gaming" models is the gpu clock is slightly higher and I haven't noticed any big difference. I would be surprised if you see a 7 fps increase between the models. This little card is a beast either way. You may have to turn down the graphics just a tad on some games, but it's so playable you wont notice.

oh yea! It does good for being so old. I only use this as a server, my other main build is ryzen. As far as games go i cant notice much difference if i install my 1080 on this pc.

Thank You :) It's time consuming. I would probably upgrade the mobo and cpu to a Ryzen for processing the plex transcoding streams. I already have a Ryzen build and its great as my daily driver for games and anything else lol I just didnt wanna leave it on 24/7 for the plex, so i made this one.

how is this at transcoding? x265, HEVC? Can it handle (1) streaming while transcoding another FHD or UHD job; I'm wondering if the on-board Intel HD Graphics 2000 is still up to task? Although If all your 1080p media is under 2 GB, everything must have already been tightly suitcased in a H.264'ish codec; Leaving very little to transcode? Do you ever ingest an HEVC or BD streams? And (again same Q?) can you still watch other stuff during intake?
