Description

This is my new primary rig for both work and play.

So far it does what I want it to do. I still have plans on getting another SSD and upgrading the GPU down the line for better performance. However, it's quiet reliable and cool. Everything my old computer was not!

Part Reviews

CPU

Simply awesome, great upgrade which easily handles VM software and gaming at higher resolutions.

CPU Cooler

Very impressed with this cheap AIO. Overclocked my i5 4690k to 4.5Ghz and barely reached over 60C from cinebench.

Motherboard

Not a whole lot to say, it works right and has the right settings to overclock. IO has all the features I wanted. BIOS is kind of clunky.

Memory

This looks very nice and performs. No issues at all installing.

Storage

SSD has been recycled into this new build, it works great. Windows 10 boots up in seconds. Wish I had another.

Storage

The HDD works as is, but I'm concerned for it's reliability.

Video Card

This thing is awesome for 1080p and is not a chump at my current resolution (2560x1600). Overclocks fairly well, got it to 1120 stable without adjusting voltage/power. Battlefield 4 plays at 60fps with settings on high. Will likely upgrade for future AAA titles.

Case

This case was a breeze to build in. Everything appears to be removable. The Fan Controller is convenient. Included fans were over-tightened which was causing weird vibrations. Loosening it up and setting the fans to run at 5volts and I can't even hear the PC at idle.

Power Supply

Nice cables, 10 yr warranty is a plus for long-term. Easy to cable-manage.

Case Fan

These fans (there was 2 included with the case) are quiet and silent, and moves a fair amount of air. Can get loud if you have it running at 100% speed however.

Hey, awesome build! Find a good deal on the 280X? How are you liking that CPU cooler? +1

I did actually pick up the 280x used from eBay from a bitcoin miner. It's working great and I got it for the low price of $180. No complaints with the cooler. It was fairly straightforward to install and delivers a great performance/price ratio.

How is the cooler? I have a Fractal Define S and was wanting to mount it to the front as an intake. You think the tubes are long enough? Nice build.

crimsos submitter 1 Build 1 point 26 months ago

The tubes are actually pretty short, the Define S and this case are pretty close to the same dimensions I do not think I could mount this radiator to the front. However, radiator is a good performer and keeps things cool. The included fans are okay but I'm thinking about swapping them out for some quieter noctuas.

Thanks for the reply. Im trying to find an AIO to front mount, but it's hard to find the info on the tube lengths...even from the manufacturers website. So I've resorted to asking people with similar cases and coolers. Mine is geared for silence. I'd like to front mount it to pull air in and keep the top closed up. There's no filters up top, and it really helps with the noise. I changed all of my fans out for Cougar CF-12HPB / CF-14HPB (I like the black better than orange fins). Awesome super quiet fans with pwm and they're a little less expensive than Noctua. Hook them into a Silverstone 8 way pwm splitter and they all run based on the cpu's need. Now, trying to incorporate water cooling into it.

how is the hard drive working? thinking about getting it but its so cheap It might be unreliable as you said

crimsos submitter 1 Build 2 points 12 months ago

So far so good! No problems. However, I don't have it under heavy use (just games / media)

Ok thanks :)
