Description

My brother wanted to build a PC for a while because his old PC wasn't up to part with today's games.

It's his first Custom PC. I have shown him the basics and we came up with this parts list.

I5 over an I7 because it's strictly for gaming.

We will overclock it later we are still in the process of setting up this beast !

Part Reviews

Storage

Boots up windows in seconds.

Case

Slick design and has a lot of room. The PSU shroud is really nice and the red led beneath it is the icing on the cake :)

Case Fan

Extremely quiet !! Nice red led to match the build!

Keyboard

Simple. Best keyboard out there right now...

"My brother wanted to build a PC for a while because his old PC wasn't up to part with today's games."

Well I suppose that problem has been dealt with now, isn't it? With this build he will keep up with today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow games, and I guess he could also single-handedly declare his room a sovereign nation and have enough nuclear deterrence to enforce its independence...

How in the world do you know he's from Montreal?

In one of his images, he has the "Canadians" flag which is montreal's hockey team :)

Not an i7?

Probably a gaming PC so it would be pointless.

but i7s have hyperthreading, which you should probably want regardless of what you're using the PC for. If I had to guess, I'd say it was a budget choice.

No, what are you talking about? If this is strictly a gaming PC, there is absolutely no need for an i7 at all. Why do you need hyperthreading if you will not ever make real use of it?

The i7 isn't available in the US yet. It also costs over $500 to ship it atm. Chill.

I would agree with you if there weren't 2 980 TI's, for 100 extra dollars it makes no sense.

This computer is intended for gaming purposes only... i7 isn't really needed for the moment

If it becomes a standard a switch will happend no worries ;)

Somehow I feel like the i5 may bottleneck the two 980ti. Other wise great build though!

Used Blue and Green Cougar Fans for the Boys [Blue Green Ninja] Build and wanted to use the Red on Mine.

BUT the Red looks WAY to Orange for my taste..

Dual GTX 980 Ti cards should shred through anything you toss at it, riiight ??

Thanks for Sharing !!

Yes this build is aimed for 1440p gaming at 144 hz !

Wouldn't a i5 bottleneck what is essentially 2 baby titan's? Nice build btw.

  • 1 point

No, it may be what limits the framerate in some games, but with 2k 144hz they should be pretty well ballanced. I would say that the titan x is an underdeveloped 980ti.

Unfortunately Jipster has left the PCPP community. If you check his profile page, it will explain everything. :(

With a build like this I would have gotten an i7, it might not matter now but down the line when 6 threads is the norm for gaming. Otherwise +1

What i dont understand is if an i7 isn't necessary, why are two 980ti's? Seems pretty Overkill to me..

Pretty build though, but the arguments seem really stupid, lol

  • 1 point

Two 980 Ti's is for 1440p gaming at 144hz nothing more.

i7 vs i5 debate is something which I think is useless if we strictly talk about gaming performances.

We both have computer science background and we have talked about the matter in the past and the conclusion is you won't see a difference unless you get to some actual work i.e Photoshop or some cpu intensive ****.

Sometimes thread context switch is more hurtful than useful (Parallel programming). So yeah it all depends on what you do with the hardware pretty much.

If it becomes a necessity he'll do the switch but for the moment there's no need

Why did you opt for the Cougar fans, I mean they really don't match the build, you could've chosen Corsair, Noctua or Venturi fans, BUT WHY THESE?

+1 for the build.

Idk haha pretty much the leds and that's all there's to it :P

Performance wise you're right though
