My New Gaming Rig

by DonBil

After months of waiting and planning I finally finished my new gaming rig. Really happy with the way it turned out. Went with i7-8700k and 1080ti for 1440p gaming, streaming and some editing. Luckily I bought the GPU around Xmas and am in Dubai so mining craze hadn't affected price too much.

I had a few moments of mild panic when I had to start connecting the AER fans and the Hue+ and just couldnt work it out. Had to have a drink and just chill out take a break and come back and figured it out. I love the S340 elite but it barely fit all the wires in the back, was a tight squeeze but got the side panel back on eventually.

Really happy with the Cablemod cables. I thought they might be too thin but they look good imo.

Re the RGB - haven't had a chance to actually sit down and coordinate everything. I don't think I will leave it like the pics..full rainbow! Looks a bit crazy. The theme was black and yellow so might see how it looks with just yellow and black lights or may be jazz it up a bit. This might be a bit daunting as I see 5 pieces of software I need to control all the lights for the setup.

Thanks to PCPP and Reddit for all the advice and help.

Gonna be installing stuff and playing around with it tonight. Can't wait.

Classic build, hard to go wrong with Strix, Kraken, and the Elite. Do you think the Hue+ gear is worth it?

Yes very much a classic. Re the Hue+ - I like the AER fans and like having it all in 1 place via the hue+ to change the colours is cool..but the need to have extra USB 2.0 headers is annoying and the connecting of it all is quite fiddly. Also...the LED strips..pretty bright lol

You are right! Mining craze hadn't affected price too much at all in Dubai it seems. $1,499 for a GTX 1080 ti is a steal!

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not! But $1500 is a bit steep for me. I paid aed 3750 back in December which is about $1000, still pricey but not as bad as it is now.

what games are you planning to play on that thing?

DonBil submitter 2 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

Bit of everything. Mainly PUBG for now. Can get to finish Witcher 3 as well, gave up playing it on PS4. Some cool new games coming out this year, Hunt Showdown, Scum, Red Dead 2 later in the year. I do play Rimworld quite a bit as well, though I know I don't need this beast for that. Anything you recommend?

I think you should get subnautica

also, can it run pubg ultra 60 fps?

Where did you order your parts from in Dubai?

DonBil submitter 2 Builds 1 point 13 months ago

So firstly I went to website called Dubaigamers.net. They had everything I wanted..totalled it up and contacted them and ended up chatting on WhatsApp with a sales rep for a final price.

Then I went to place called Computer Plaza a kind of shopping mall for PC parts and got a better price for almost the same list but they didn't have everything.

Ultimately went with dubaigamers who had everything I needed and he gave me a better discount after a bit of haggling.

I ordered the monitor and PSU from Amazon UK as I had some vouchers and I ordered the cables direct from Cablemod.

This is awesome! I have a quick q for you. What do you make of the motherboard? is it nice? does it have good audio? Just tell me your thoughts. Thanks!

Hi, sorry my reply is so late. Thanks for the compliment! Loving using the PC so far. In terms of audio, I use headphones with my setup and I have zero issues with audio. Game sounds are awesome, footsteps etc. are very noticeable, music audio is good too as well as movies. I like the motherboard. It was very easy to build on. I think in terms of aesthetics, it will only work in a setup with yellow/orange accents as its so prominently colored but apart from that I recommend it sure.
