Description

"There was only one ship."

"One? Are you sure?"

"Yes. They called it... The Pillar of Autumn..."

This build is my first one ever. I got into pcs about two years ago when i saw an ltt video about a budget gaming pc. After watching a lot of youtube videos i figured out how to actually build one. That was two years ago. Since then i have been saving and learning as much as i could about computer hardware. So when i saw that Micro Center had the 6600k for $180 i knew i had to get it. So that brings me here about a month after i first built it.

6600k. It is great. I think I won the silicon lottery since i have it at 4.5ghz and I never increased the voltage and the hottest it has ever gotten is 62C. I have 762 cb score. It rarely breaks 50C wile gaming and the 212 evo makes sure of that. It is a great cpu for this price.

Gigabyte Z170x-ud3. This motherboard is utter bull crap. After 1 week a voltage regulator died and It almost killed my cpu. I took it back to Micro Center and got my new motherboard in about ten minutes.

Asus Z170-AR. This is a great motherboard. It has great overclocking, The bios is a lot better to navigate than the Gigabyte one. And the best part is that i have had it for a month and it still works properly. When i put it in i did not need to reinstall windows. The only things i had to reinstall was Cinebench and Minecraft. It supports SLI and Crossfire so if i ever got a second 470 for some reason i would be good.

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT. It is fine. I had no trouble with it at all. I do plan on getting another 8gb stick at some point but until than it is fine.

Sandisk SSd Plus 240gb. Windows boots in 15 seconds. Nuff said.

PowerColor Radeon RX 470 4gb Red Dragon. As you can expect there is nothing ground breaking about this card. The card did come with a backplate which surprised me. If it breaks the company will send you another before the you send your current one back I think. I don't know for sure but that is what the guy at Micro Center told me.

Corsair Spec 01. I know it says Spec 02 in the parts list but i could not find the 01 on pcpp. It is a good case for $40. Cable management is rough but with some work and more force than you should need the sidepannel wil, go back on. If you get this case be warned that you will probably spend 30 minutes on cable management. Other than that is a good case. I do wish it had an extra fan space in the front instead of the 5.25 inch bays but that is something i can live with.

Corsair CXM 650W. Great psu since i got it on sale for $65. They did screw me on the rebate but that is fine since i got it for $30 off anyway. I like semi modular psus since the only cables that are attached are the ones you will always need. No problems at all beside them saying my rebate was invalid even though the reason they gave me bull.

The build is great. I can finally enjoy 1080p 60fps ultra. All hail the PCMR.

A very good budget build. BTW how did you come up with the name? Do you play a lot of Halo on it?

i just got the Halo 5 Multiplayer. I use to play Halo on my old 360. The only one i would go back and play at this point is CE Anniversary since it is the only one that runs at 60fps. I hope they release Halo 6 on pc like they did with Halo Wars 2. I was going to name it The Prometheus after a ship from Star Gate, But when i started playing Halo in September i changed my mind.

I plan on making a new build in 3 years ish. That is when i think it will be best to upgrade my cpu and mobo to whatever is the latest. I will probably call the build In Amber Clad or Forward Unto Dawn.

You should only name it Forward Unto Dawn if you're going to go all out with it and price doesn't matter. If you have another limited budget build then go with In Amber Clad.

Well i will see if i have $2500 to spend on a pc in three years. If i ever swap the case out for something a bit better amd make other upgrades like a gpu, cpu, cpu cooler etc. If i ever upgrade the cpu it will be too the 7700k. But if i did that two years from now i would end up waiting another two years to build a new system. Maybe if i start a yt channel and can get intel to send me stuff. It would be ironic if the psu blew up, Wouldn't it?

Wow this games is awesome. Just played a few rounds. A few stutters but it is a fan remake so i can't fault it too much there.

Yep. Been subbed since last few days of the old office back in 2015. I honestly prefered the old setup, They threw everything including the kitchen sink into their videos back then.

Pls tell me how my cable management is. I know its not perfect but i did the best i could. I dodn't even plug in the front pannel audio because not only would the cable need to go across therop of my psu, But the front pannel audio sucks compared to the realtek chip on my mobo. And i will upload a new pic when i find a good spot for fan hub.

Maybe get a 1 or 2 TB storage (Not ssd) For other stuff?

I have a tb hdd but i have no sata cables. Once i get some i will put it in my system. It was a gift so i didn't add it to the build.

I got that 1tb hdd in the system now. Feels good to have more storage than i need currently, But still enough for the future.

Thank you. Two years well spent. I also moved the fan hub to where you can barely see the wires.

Thank you. It was awesome just building the thing. After a month of gaming i can say it is good enough to play all my games at ultra.

Would have waited for a 1060 3GB to go on sale.

Why. It is not much more powerful and the 1gb less of vram will cause it to perform worse in some games. Not that many now but in the future it will a lot more. At the time of building this, The cheapest 1060 was $220 at microcenter. Paying an extra $55 for a card with barely better performance and even worse performance in games that use a lot of vram would have been stupid.

I don't believe that's how it works. Isn't more memory better when you turn the game settings up, and it actually uses it? If you're playing a game that needs 2GB vRAM, a 3gb and a 4gb card with the same other specs would perform the same amount. But if you go over the 3GB Vram limit, then I guess 4GB would be better.

At the time of building this, The cheapest 1060 was $220 at microcenter.

I can't read your mind. If that was how much it cost then there you go, you got the best value at day of purchase

My point was the fact that you said I should have waited. If you had read the description you would have known my reason for buying the parts at the time I did. I got everything listed except for the case, On the first of April.

Well my PC is no joke. It is a beast. I should probably sell my 470 before the whole mining craze goes away.

It is from the Halo series, But not from Halo in the series. It is the ship that Captain Keys was put in command of shortly before it left dry dock on the planet Reach during the Covenant invasion in September of 2552, Near the end of the Human-Covenant war. Shortly after the ship left Reach it made a blind slip-space jump to a location that Cortana had discovered in Forerunner ship that had crashed on Reach hundreds of thousands of years prior to the Covenant attack. It was after they exited Slip-Space when the UNSC first discovered Installation 04, AKA Alpha Halo. It was on Installation 04 that Master Chief Petty Officer John 117 of the Spartan 2 program, Detonated the slip-space drive on the Pillar of Autumn and destroyed the Installation. And shortly after the commander of the Covenant fleet protecting the Installation, Thel Vadam, Was stripped of his rank and was branded(Literally) a heretic for his inability to safeguard Halo. And shortly after this he helped put an end to the human-Covenant war after realizing the leader of the Covenant had betrayed the oath they swore.
