Description

I built this at the end of the summer, but I'm finally getting around to posting it on here.

This build is running like a beast and I absolutely love it.

I'm planning on picking up a cooler in the near future when the budget allows it.

I originally bought the Cryorig H7 Tower cooler, because through some different sources, I heard it would fit within ~5mm in the case. That measurement, however, didn't take take into consideration the height added form the Motherboard standoffs and the little bit of lift from the CPU slot, causing the cooler to not fit. That is why I'm currently running the stock cooler, as opposed to the cooler shown in the very first pic.

Parts:

  • Intel Core i5-4690k
    • This one was a no brainer for me, as I wanted the best i5 I could get. I went with the unlocked version so that I can overclock in the future. Also, at the time, it was slightly cheaper than the locked version. So far, I'm loving this CPU. It's wonderful.
  • Gigabyte GA-Z97N
    • This board is great for the price. Being M-ITX, it does everything I hoped for. I don't use the on board wifi card, so I'm not too sure how good it is. Nonetheless, this board gets the job done.
  • Kingston HyperX Fury White
    • Not much to say here besides nice looking White RAM
  • PNY CS1111
    • At the time of my build, I got this for $60, an absolute steal!
  • WD 1TB
    • What more to say than a great 1TB drive?
  • MSI Radeon R9 390
    • This card took much deliberation to finally buy. I was originally planning on putting a 970 in this build, but then I saw the new 300 series come out from AMD and this card is truly fantastic. It handles everything I throw at it like a champ, at 1440p!!! I absolutely love this card. Probably my proudest part in this build.
  • Corsair 250D
    • This case is great. Looks great. Built great. Feels great. Did I say how great it looks? And its sub $80? Yeah. This case is amazing. I love it.
  • Rosewill 550W
    • Yes, I know I'm running a 550W with an AMD R9 390. I realize the recommended manufacturer wattage is 650W. But, this PSU is fantastic. Modular, Effecient, and Powerful. It keeps this build up and running like a champ. It's been running my build flawlessly for 4 months now, and I couldn't ask for anything more. This PSU is fantastic. Highly recommended.
  • Acer G257HU
    • This monitor is great. It looks amazing, and runs at 1440p! This is an awesome price for a 1440p monitor and it is fantastic. I love it.

Part Reviews

CPU

Runs like a champ. I have yet to overclock, but has been running amazing at stock.

Motherboard

Everything you could ask for in an m-ITX board. I love it. And pretty cheap too.

Memory

It's RAM. And it's White, and super sexy.

Storage

Great SSD for a great price. Highly recommended.

Video Card

This GPU is amazing. It's driving my 1440p display like a champ. I absolutely love this card. Highly recommended.

Case

Great build quality. Looks amazing. Great price. Awesome case for any m-ITX build. Only gripe is that it is slightly large for the m-ITX form factor, but much smaller than the m-ATX counterparts.

Power Supply

Fantastic PSU. Drives my AMD R9 390 like a boss. Haven't had any problems and have been running that combo for ~4 months now. Great PSU, Modular, Awesome price.

Monitor

Great 1440p monitor for a decent price. I love this display. Looking to pick up a second one in the near future.

The SSD has been running great. I haven't seen any lag issues with it. I can reboot in like 10 seconds or less.

But have you tried to install anything big to it cause that was my issue

HI! what games are you playing? this is looks good! but, doesn't it get too hot in there? what are the temps?

bobami12 submitter 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

I'm playing mainly csgo, dota2, diablo 3, rocket league, Dark Souls 1,2, and 3, Overwatch, mainly anything. It handles anything I throw at it. Anything running on the source engine gets like 200 ish frames at least. DS3 runs amazing at 1080 maxed out. It gets a little warm, but nothing unbearable. I"m planning on getting an aftermarket cooler for the cpu soon.

Is the MSI 390 a 2.5 slot card? Did you have to remove the fan filter?

This was my second build. I had a crappy one I built years ago in high school, and I figured it was time for an upgrade. :)
