Description

Hey there! This is my first build ever and now it is the final touch to my "Man Corner" (just got an apartment with my girlfriend - not enough space for a full cave). Overall I am extremely proud of this build and it was a great experience searching for all of the parts and assembling it all! Please enjoy the pictures I have here and take a look at the reviews I have below :D

More part reviews down below

WD Blue - Its and HDD

Corsair Air Series - Nice clean looking fans (I don't like the look of led fans very much). Make a little bit of noise but that's simply it pushing lots of air haha

Hyper Cloud I - Seems to be the standard for high quality high value, have had these for over year and are still perfect for me

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 - Great set of speakers for a computer. They don't take up much space and sound dynamic and crisp even at low volumes. The only issue is that there isn't a dedicated power switch so I have it attached to a surge protector that I use as its power switch rather than constantly plugging/unplugging

Cable mod Wide Beam - I went with the 30cm option and its plenty to light the important parts of my pc. The flashing modes aren't the greatest but if you want a bright and magnetic strip with a few different colors these are great

Cable mod Cables - Beautiful colors and worked without a single issue. Very easy to work with, though, they do add extra length to your cables so cable management becomes slightly more challenging but nothing undoable

Part Reviews

CPU

Haven't overclocked it yet but as of right now it is fast with everything I have thrown at it and stays cool in an air-cooled only build

CPU Cooler

Big and beautiful but also I TOTAL PAIN to install. I would suggest this only if you are gonna be patient when installing a CPU cooler because it really is a fantastic cooler despite the installation woes

Motherboard

Fantastic looking board, all of the features I needed. I kinda destroyed the USB 3 header for my front panel USB ports but that is simply my own fault

Memory

Beautiful RAM, definitely can't fit 4 stick of RAM with the CPU cooler but 16GB is more than enough for me

Storage

Only $65 this thing is a steal. Fast, good size and looks awesome especially in a building that has the SSD on display

Video Card

Beautiful card, doesn't sag too much in my build despite it being so big. Stays cool and quiet and has crushed every thing I have through at it in 1440P

Case

A stunner, the space in here is great and the new and improved tempered glass is the perfect way to showcase your new build

Power Supply

Plenty of watts to get the job done and the cables come nicely sleeved as far as non-modded cables go

Wireless Network Adapter

A surprisingly noticeable upgrade to the wifi on my lap top, very fast, good looking wifi card with dedicated antennae that look great as well

Monitor

Now and then Bes But will have a refurbished one of these for $200 and its amazing! Some bleed around the edges in complete black screens but that's totally fine with me. No dead pixels and its a very sleek looking and affordable 1440p monitor.

Keyboard

Brown switches and amazing colors. The LED effects are all done through the keyboard itself, so while it is limited it is also extremely easy to use. The keyboard itself is a treat to type on and I would recommend brown switches to any newcomer to mechanical keyboards

Mouse

Use this around 2000 dpi and its awesome. Some customizability with the color and the macro buttons. Extremely comfortable and fills your whole hand in a very satisfying way

Looks great!

Lyrix 2 points 10 months ago

this is amazing! 1+! i bought the same case (just in black) same cpu same cpu cooler and probably gonna buy the same gpu.

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah im sure your build will be awesome! definitely take your time with the cpu cooler, it was a bit of a headache haha

ethereal333 3 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

The cooler is easy if you approach it in reverse to what you think is intuitive. Attach all the brackets to the cooler first. Place the backplate and poles on the mb and then screw it from the back of the mb while the case is standing up.

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Yeah I ended up having to hold my whole mobo upside down to actually get it to work haha, but now it is rock solid and keeps my cpu frosty cold. So once it is on it is definitely worth it, just tough as a first time builder to get it sorted out was all :)

DeNo49 2 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

I have the exact same cooler at home. I am planning on an upgrade that I will be building tomorrow. I can't wait. This is good advice as I have also heard it from others. Do you have one as well ?

ethereal333 3 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

Yes, I have a Dark Rock 3 on an ITX motherboard in an NZXT Manta. It fits perfectly in the case but I had to cut some of the thick foam on the cooler backplate with an exacto knife because the small ITX MB has small components in the area on the back around the CPU socket which prevented a perfect fit. It is a great cooler - just assemble before you mount and screw from the back.

DeNo49 2 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Thanks man. I did just that. Much appreciated.

Lyrix 1 point 10 months ago

yeah... its installed now and the thermal paste was a mess.

Cam84 2 Builds 2 points 10 months ago

I got a 3400 sq foot home and I get a man closet lol

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Hahaha poor guy, I get a closet too but I just filled it up with my pokemon card collection lol

JWiLL552 2 points 10 months ago

Me: "This looks incredible for gaming!"

Sees mouse pad...

...slowly backs out of room

Just kidding - great build! Love the color scheme, I'm going for something similar myself on my first build (which starts this weekend).

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Hahaha thanks man I appreciate it! The mouse pad is near and dear to my heart and I wouldn't let it go for the world :D If you have any questions about your build or the process, feel free to reach out!

Randomzz_10 1 point 10 months ago

It's gorgeous.

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Can't go wrong with red/black - classic PC look

GiTide 1 point 10 months ago

Aww, you beat me to the s340 elite red build D;

But absolutely beautiful build nevertheless! Great Job.

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Haha sorry mate, maybe yours will turn out even better! :D

Shadowriser609 1 point 10 months ago

this is way better than a cave! +1

Akck67 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Nice man corner dude! And love the build. I'll probably have to do something like this soon so I appreciate being able to look at yours for reference.

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

I appreciate the compliment! Keep me posted on how your build turns out

BillNyetheRussianSpy1002 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Great to see widebeams in this build, really benfits from them

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

I honestly think red and black builds look best with either a bright/crisp white led or a deep blue. Red lights on red/black just makes it all too dark. Thanks man :D

tigerblood213 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

this looks amazing even though you couldn't get the whole man cave

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Thanks! The corner will do for now, it's cozy

PCBUILD001 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Nice build! Clean and symmetrical ;-)

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Clean and symmetrical is not usually a compliment I get but I'm glad it came through with my build :D

LostElement 2 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Oh my. This is such a beautiful and clean build. Congratulations. May it serve you well, mate! +1

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

I appreciate it pal! It's been performing amazingly so far, it's been very much worth it

skizoal 1 point 10 months ago

I'm going to do something similar. How is the clearance on the RAM with the cooler?

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Pretty tight to be honest, Even having the ram starting in the second slot is a tight fit, definitely wouldn't be able to have all for slots filled even with low profile ram. I would suggest getting enough ram that you only need two sticks (2x8 for 16 total should be plenty for now and the future)

skizoal 1 point 10 months ago

Thanks. I might shop around for a different cooler. It's a shame though it looks awesome in there. I am about to start my first build and I saw this and it really inspired me. Great work.

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Hey I'm glad I could provide some inspiration to get the creative juices flowing! If you have any questions or anything feel free to hit me up my man :D

skizoal 1 point 10 months ago

Hey I just saw a YouTube video about the cooler. It was showing how you could unhook the fan on the cooler and move it up. I don't think it's the intended purpose but it might work. Looking at yours does that seem like it would work?

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Yeah was that the biwit video? That COULD work if you already had low profile RAM, but the g.skill aren't so I'd have to move the fan to the other side of the cooler if I wanted 4 sticks of ram

DeNo49 2 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Love the build man. I was going to get that case initially, but decided on the Phantek Evolv TG. I have the same cooler though and RAM sticks. I can't wait till the mail woman comes tomorrow with my red and black CableMod cables so I can upgrade my build.

Is the Black Rock pulling on the board a bit or not really ? How long did it take you to install the cooler ?

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Thanks I appreciate it my man! I love the NZXT but I'm sure that case will the trick for ya too! The black rock is big and beautiful but it doesn't seem to be doing any harm to the MOBO. Took me a solid 30 mins to install it, if not more, but I went into it blind on how to install it. I'd suggest watching this video and do exaxctly what they because that was the only way for me to get it done and it worked perfect! Happy building!

DeNo49 2 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

Thanks for the reply. Yea I watched a lot of videos on YouTube before I even received the shipment. I found this one https://youtu.be/3Hsx4k2mRUc That helped me out a lot soni was pretty well prepared. Your video was a lot more step by step. But it went smoothly nonetheless. I couldn't be happier with the cooler. I'll post some pics once I get everything finished.

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Awesome! Yeah the cooler is beautiful and does an amazing job for sure. Can't wait to see how it turned out

4IRS0FT 1 point 10 months ago

Love that spongebob mouse mat 10/10 mlg +1

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

Hahaha thanks dude! I've had it for ten years, sometimes you just gotta keep it happy in life, I'm no pro so I'm happy to have my spongebob everyday haha XD

Kobay 1 point 10 months ago

Why not put your SSD on the showcase bracket? Anyways gr8 build

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

I actually stayed with it there but didn't but had a challenging time getting the wires through the little whole and didn't particularly like how it looked so I moved it

Skylord2104 1 point 10 months ago

Love the Color Scheme :-) !

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

That you sir! It came out just how I had it pictured in my head :D

HayDos 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Hey nice build! For your CableMod cables, are you using 8-Pin & 6-Pin or 8-Pin & 6+2-Pin PCI-e cables for your graphics card? If you could put a link to your specific cable kit, that would be great :)

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 3 points 10 months ago

Hey there my friend! I am using the 8+6 and it worked out perfectly. https://cablemod.com/product/cablemod-basic-cable-extension-kit-86-pin-series-black-red/ My only suggestion is that if you're going to get anything else directly from CableMod be sure to get it all at once because the shipping when vying directly from them is expensive. Or look to find another online retailer that is selling their products - they have a section on their website in where else to buy

HayDos 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Cheers dude!

Leoman552 1 point 10 months ago

Will the CPU cooler be a problom since the RAM is right in front of it?

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 10 months ago

In this build I couldn't use the RAM slot closest to the CPU because the cooler is so big. But where the RAM is now doesn't block any air flow through the cooler so there is no issue at all - it is working like a charm and I have never seen my CPU get hotter than 45 C

Leoman552 1 point 10 months ago

Thank you.

sgoyette430 1 point 9 months ago

Love the color coordination!

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Thanks dude! I was super picky with all my parts to make sure it matched really well, even my wifi card is red

RabidBanana 1 point 9 months ago

Amazing build looks really good, im getting the same motherboard, how does it perform?

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

It has been outstanding so far. The in board audio is a nice upgrade from my old lap top and as a whole it was worked very well and looks stellar

ImperiousBattlestar 1 point 6 months ago

Great build, this is going to be similar to what I'm doing. +1 :)

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 6 months ago

Thank you sir! Let me know how your build turns out! :D

riconious 1 point 6 months ago

Great looking build! Love all Boston sports stuff too! I'm originally from Western MA, so it's awesome to see!

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 6 months ago

thanks! Really happy with how everything has turned out and I have even been able to hang some more awesome red sox/patriots memorabilia on the walls too!

dnn83 1 point 5 months ago

Wholesome setup :).

Have a question, Are you using the HDMI pass through in the front? Unless the graphics cards as a HDMI connector inside case, I have to run the cable from the rear end of the case and inside the case to connect to the pass through HDMI right?

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 2 points 5 months ago

Hey there! So the hdmi input on the front of he case is pretty much an HDMI cable that is already preinstalled into the case. So it runs from the to I/o, then behind a small whole on the top right next to the red bar and goes through to the rear of the case where it can be easily plugged into your graphics card. No need for any extra cables or anything to set up that input. So right now I don't have it actually plugged in and the HDMI connector is just hanging out of the back of my case.

MARCOzid 1 point 5 months ago

what is your idle GPU temperature while fans no spin? and is your country cold or hot?

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

Hi! So my case and CPU fans are always at 100% speed because I have them plugged in using 3-pin fan connectors. Also, I live in the North East of the US and my house is usually around 70 degrees Fahrenheit (about 21 C) most of the time. Right now at idel my GPU temp is 40 C and my idel CPU is about 25 C. Hope that helped! Let me know if you have any other questions :D

MARCOzid 1 point 5 months ago

i want to buy this case but in the tempered glass i can see some marks http://prntscr.com/f2snau will they disappear if i cleaned it with soft cloths? and THANKS and +1 :D

kmathieu2220 submitter 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

Yeah absolutely! It gets dusty pretty easily and it shows finger prints if you ever touch it so you'll have to clean it a lot if you want it to look perfect but it the marks will definitely disappear
