Description

First Build, and hopefully last build for awhile. Would love to hear feedback more pictures soon.

No overclocking till I need the increase in power, and after I learn what I'm doing first.

Games being played: Dota 2 CSGO H1Z1 BF4 Rainbow Six Siege Battlefront

Sorry for flash in pictures better quality incoming soon.

Part Reviews

CPU

Overkill, Pricey for my applications should probably have gone with the i5 6600k. Went into the electronics store with the intention of getting the i5. Asked if they had any of the i7's in stock. They had one left so impulse bought it. Similar to the whole way this build came to be just one huge impulse buy.

Motherboard

I have not had any trouble with the bios. Easy update everything works as it should.

Memory

Works great thanks corsair! Might upgrade to 32Gb if I get the urge to drain my bank account even further.

Storage

No issues yet, great price point.

Storage

Didn't recognize at first. Allocated and now it works great!

Video Card

Went with this card because everything I read pointed to this being the best of the 980Ti line. And I'm kind of an Asus Fanboy.

Case

Extremely well built, and very affordable. Cable management very easy.

Power Supply

Extremely well packaged. You can tell EVGA takes it time developing and providing a quality product to it's consumers.

Optical Drive

Used to download windows and drivers. My case does not have a drive bay so it is left out of the build

Computer... where are you?

* waits patiently for more photos *

No Video editing or anything extreme. Just wanted an overkill system hopefully rather future future proof.

Well one thing comes to mind: What? Why no i5-6600K? You would still have an overkill rig with that processor but since you mention not wanting to overclock until you need more power... just mind boggles me! You have an tiny overkill of wattage! (if you intend SLI in the future) So... I'm just confused with no matter what you said, you have the quality and a lot of wattage remaining to overclock.
jkorbon 1 point 22 months ago

He said until he needs more power meaning more power from overclocking not have enough power to overclock.

Eltech 16 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

Really? I think I understood that but why would he say he doesn't need to overclock until he needs to? The base is 4.0GHz at the moment and he hasn't mention a need sure. When I see a k processor sometimes I think minor overclock with this setup. There's no build and only a partlist with one photo of boxes... I want to see a build and more description. Oh well, I am just going to have to wait and see. :)

jkorbon 1 point 22 months ago

Haha I understand just wanted to make sure you understood what he was saying lol

I am no expert in English but I understood. I don't understand enough with OP when I am wondering about different parts could have been bought. At least OP was honest about it, but just other things do come to mind based on the decisions that were made. I'll clarify: it's not a bad build at all, just different options could have been made to make an overkill rig for the games that OP is playing. Now we wait for some external and internal photos... * sips her cola-cola bottle, wishing it was a glass of wine instead *

I'm a novice as far as overclocks go. My previous computer was an old core 2 duo so I am curious to learn more just afraid to do anything that might mess everything up. Would love to add closed loop to get cooler temps though getting pretty hot running H1Z1 in the 50* Celsius range.

Eltech 16 Builds 1 point 22 months ago
I see, that's a jump of a difference. Though no idea why the i7 then, when could have got an i5. But if you intend to use a closed loop then I'm certain you'll get your temps down in due time. 50 Celsius is fine by the way but if you are not comfortable with it then I wish you for the best to get lower temps that you are comfortable with. Have you adjusted the vCore or is that running on automatic? Sometimes those defaults in the BIOS has a tendency to run the vCore at 1.4~ when it's not needed. No idea if its true with this MOBO but does not hurt to double check and turn it down by .1 or more if able to.
USA602 submitter 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

I have no idea what vCore is I am basically a 90 year old truck driver as far as competency with computers. I7 because I impulse bought it when I went in to get the i5. Everyone told me to go i5 but I'm ignorant.

Eltech 16 Builds 1 point 22 months ago
Hey, at least you are honest so thank you for it. Basically its a certain amount of voltage that goes into the processor. Sometimes the MOBO's default amount of voltage for the core is set higher then required. Again, no idea what amount of voltage with these type of MOBOs are preset at but does not hurt to check it out. Can refer to your MOBO's manual about that.
Also, thanks for the updated photos.

You most likely will need to re-upload as even though you add more pictures it won't bump it to the top

USA602 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Pictures uploaded! Better photos to come in the near future.

Hyper 212 a monster? in size lol? in performance lol? first rig?

Atron 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

2 Coolers come to mind when I hear monster. Noctua DH-15 BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 3. 212 Evo is large-ish but not even close to the 2 mentioned

USA602 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Moster as far as size wasnt expecting it to be so big. I'm a noob be gentle. :)

Great Build +1!

USA602 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Thanks man was stressful for me. :)

fir_nev 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

You and I have almost the same build. Just that I am an MSI person. It is good to have an overkill build rather than having to upgrade over time.

USA602 submitter 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

I like my MSI mobo the bios are super easy for someone as ignorant as me!

fir_nev 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Haha! My thoughts exactly! I will try to upgrade my GPU to 980Ti and we both will be 90% match!

xSqueeze 1 point 22 months ago

How do you like the STRIX card? I'm thinking about picking it up

USA602 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I like it. I can't get the LED's to stop breathing even when I switch it to solid illumination in the geforce app so just turned it off no worries though.

Isac 1 point 15 months ago

Hey bro, just a quick question.

Your mobo doesn't have a display port but your gpu does, I assume you can still connect the monitor via display port to your gpu, just not the motherboard? I'm in a dilemma and just wanted to make sure I can still use display port through my monitor and gpu, even though my mobo doesn't have one. Thanks

USA602 submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Sorry for late response I am sure you found out that you can run your monitor through the gpu just fine. Thanks for the question!
