Description

My first desktop PC.

Background:

Coming from an Alienware 17 R2 Laptop:

  • NVIDIA GeForce® GTX™ 980m (4 GB GDDR5)
  • Intel® Core™ i7-4980HQ (Quad-Core: 4x 2.8-4.0 GHz + Hyper-Threading)

So that's a leap from a 5th Gen i7 Core to a 9th Gen i9 Core, and from GTX 980M to RTX 2080 Ti.

Prior to that, I owned some basic HP laptop from 2011. It had fingerprint biometric authentication, so that was cool.

Why get this build?

  • My laptop was thermally throttling
  • Experience 1440p @ 144+ Fps, ultra everything
  • I had some extra money after reconsidering my future plans
  • Time passing, lonely & bored so I decided to play more games

Fun fact: I got about 5 games in my Steam account as of February 5, 2019. I played some games from my brother's library though.

Performance:

On the basis of my everyday usage which includes: gaming, music, web browsing and reading.

Ambient temperature is normally around 22-23 C with AC on, 25-27 C without.

Monitor is OC'ed to display 165 Hz instead 144 Hz.

  • CPU, GPU idle temperatures: 28-32 C, 30-32 C
  • CPU, GPU load temperatures: 48 C, 68-72 C
  • CPU cores: 4.9 GHz, it just runs at that by default
  • GPU cores: 1700 MHz, +95 MHz OC
  • GPU memory: 7700 MHz, +700 MHz OC

GPU: those are my stable configuration, I tried +100 MHz for the core but Destiny 2 crashed after 4 Hrs of gaming. Anything above causes Destiny 2 to crash and gives an error message.

This thing runs cool, I love it.

Fans configuration:

Running a push-pull configuration (sandwiched AIO radiator):

  • 3x front intakes
  • Radiator
  • 2x AIO intakes
  • 1x rear exhaust
  • 1x PSU bottom intake

Plenty of positive pressure for 3 dust filters. Hopefully not much dust in the long run.

I adjusted the fan curves [DC] on my 4x Corsair 120 SP fans to be pretty quiet, almost silent on normal usage while keeping the CPU and GPU at 35 C

Corsair AIO: can't hear this one on idle and non gaming usage

  • Pump on balanced profile, 2100 RPM on idle and load
  • 2x fans on balanced, 450 RPM on idle

Honestly, I could make the fans run faster because my AC is louder, but I see no reason to do so as everything is cool enough. Also, I have my headphones on most of the time. (I don't have desktop speakers).

GPU 3x fans always on at 35% fan speed. Can't hear it. Goes up to 70% while gaming.

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions? Any comment is welcomed.

nice Pc I just built mine so far it's amazing and not sure why so many say the 9900k runs hot mine stays very cool under load. but question how did you get your monitor to OC to 165 mines won't let me?

Aye thanks lad! Congrats on your build.

Oh me too, I was afraid of the heat from all I've read and I originally planned for the Corsair H115i Pro but had some space constraints so I went for the smaller H100i Pro which made me feel uneasy. Temps are so good honestly (for both idle and under load), and your temps are amazing! That fractal design you got must be doing work.

I guess those who got bad temps with the 9900k either have a bad unut or need some airflow optimization. My temps got lower by 2 degrees when I lowered my fans speed haha!

My monitor is commercialized to be OC'ed up to 165 Hz. I found the setting on the display settings using the buttons behind screen. Also, I double checked with windows 10 display settings to make sure the refresh rate is actually 165 Hz.

Hope that helps.

Yeah I have I think the s36 from FD and my temps are really nice man I couldn’t. Be happier with my set up now. I plan to try a 5.0 and 5.1 OC maybe tonight so I will update my pics with the results. And yeah my Ben Q won’t allot me to go to 165hz kinda sucks but I run it in 1440p and 144hz so overall it’s nice. And I still have plans to upgrade to 32gb of ram. Have you tried to oc your ram or are you sticking with the profile 1 setting?

Well not too bad, 144 Hz is still great.

Also, I just checked out your OC screenshots. Looks damn good bro. I'll try OC'ing my CPU as well when I come back in town.

As for the RAM, I only enabled XMP in the BIOS to utilize the 3200 MHz. I don't see a need to OC my rams for my usage.

Cheers!

Thanks for passing by. I just added some screenshots from monitoring softwares.

I'm currently out of town for two weeks, I'll make sure to add some more photos of the build without the RGB and in daylight.

Thanks man! Good luck with your upcoming build!

I also currently play the following:

  • The Witcher 3
  • Civilization VI (loved playing part 3)
  • Runescape (one of my childhood games that I play every now and then)
  • Resident Evil 7 (loved RE 1 to 4)
  • Metal Gear V (loved MGS 1 to 3)

Games I plan to play in the future:

  • Resident Evil 2
  • Yakuza (still not sure what to get first, 0 or the Kiwami?)
  • Battlefield (not sure what version to get)

Any suggestions to games that I should consider?

How's OW on the 2080ti? Wanting to know cause that's the first game I'm loading up when I get my PC built.

Oh boy, it was the first game I fired up after setting up the pc. It was super smooth, everything was on ultra & my input lag was around 6 to 13 ms. I optimized some settings while keeping 90% of the settings on ultra and the input lag is now between 3 to 6 ms.

I get between 270 to 300 FPS. I don't remember it dropping below 250, I love it.

Holy ****, I cannot wait to play it now. OW is my main game for the most part and my current PC just barely handles 60fps at the lowest settings, like I get stuttering and everything.

This sounds like a dream and I can't wait to build.

Haha it's gonna be a treat & you'll start dominating. Looking forward to seeing your build and reaction, good luck bro!

Is the Rival 600 the best mouse you owned?

  • 1 point

I only bought it because my wireless G602 decided to die on me after using it for about 5 years. Loved that mouse.

To be honest, it feels great but it lacks in buttons. It only has 3 on the right side and I'm used to having more buttons. and it's less comfy than my previous mouse, but not bad at all.

Also, I haven't played with it for more than 5 days cause I traveled out of town so I can't tell yet.

I'm using a corner office table, L shape. It's pretty huge. I just posted a photo from away to have an idea.
