Description

I've been using computers for many years now. I'm not an expert, or anything even close. For a long time I toyed with the idea of building my own. Well, after probably too much thought and immense help from this web site, I finally pulled the trigger and did it. I'm so glad that I did. I ran into a couple of snags along the way. For instance, after I had the PC assembled, I plugged it in, attempted to power it up and absolutely nothing happened. I rechecked all of the connections and found nothing wrong. I ended up taking it all apart. I tested the PSU. I bench tested the MOBO and systematically added components from there. I have no idea what I did wrong, but it all works now. In fact, I am still shocked every time that I hit the power button at how quickly this PC boots up because of the SSD.

So, to make a long story short, if I can do this, anyone can.

Many thanks to all of the guys who have posted their builds before me. Y'all were a lot of help.

Part Reviews

CPU

What can I say? It's an Intel Core i5. Solid as a rock, right out of the box.

Motherboard

I like this mother board. I think it is prices well for the features. It is well built. The instructions were easy to follow. The BIOS is easy to access and use. Plus the red lights look really cool.

Memory

It's RAM. It looks good and operates flawlessly.

Storage

This thing is really fast and easy to install. I have my OS installed on this and I use it for the boot drive. It boots Windows 10 Home in about 20 seconds. It's great!!!

Storage

Fast and quiet are the two ways I would describe this. It's a good value.

Video Card

I'm not a hard core gamer, so I don't need the latest and greatest. This card meets and exceeds my needs. It runs quiet and cool, even when the fans spool up to higher rpm's. So far it has handled everything I've thrown at it without really breaking a sweat.

Case

I got this case for 59.99 with a $20 mail in rebate. Based on that, it's a great deal. It comes with 5 case fans. Two of which are blue LED. But, they all use molex connectors, except 1. I HATE molex connectors. That's why I only gave it four out of five stars. Other than that, I like the PSU shroud, the dust filters and the lay out. It's well built and feels solid. If you can find this on sale, it's a bargain. One other thing...This thing is quiet. You can barely here it hum.

Power Supply

Excellent PSU. The semi-modular design is well laid out. The cables are high quality. It runs silently. Excellent!

Optical Drive

It was easy to install. It's very quiet. It operates as it should.

Operating System

I know there's a lot of folks who dislike Windows 10. I am not one of them. I bought this on a USB drive. It was fully installed in less than 15 minutes. I have had no issues whatsoever. My PC boots in well under 30 seconds. And it shuts down even faster. No complaints.

I noticed that you didn't like the molex connectors, you could just buy case fans and replace the fans that came with the case

I did end up buying some new fans to replace those that came with the case. This was still very new to me at the time I posted my build. I've learned much since then, in a very short time. Thanks for the advice though, as information is always appreciated. I'm already looking forward to my next one.
