Description

Revised build and it was a long wait! I sold my 970 and used my 7800 Sapphire for a month. I pulled an all nighter while going through the EVGA traffic cone of despair to get this 1070 SC. Very nice card! Enjoy and leave your feedback!

12-30-16 I received some fans and I am most satisfied with the way it turned out after installation! Fans are excellent and feel free to comment and leave your feedback!

You lucky son of a gun. Picked up a FE for my buddy because this wasn't available. I don't think it'll be too bad since it is an ITX build but still.

  • 3 points

Ouu I love ITX builds. Let me have a peep once it is finished! I am very lucky! I was lurking the reddit threads and it was chaos!

  • 4 points

There will be a completed build coming. Having issues with the RAM, but everything else is in now.

  • 3 points

Hope it goes well! Looking forward to it.

  • 1 point

Good luck, hope its just an issue seating the RAM. Gotta be the worst feeling when you slot everything, hit power and then nothing happens. Took me a few attempts to fix mine.

  • 1 point

I hope that doesn't happen. Specifically the RAM was sent to the wrong address and I had to order more and overnight it to get the build done. When the other ram shows up I'll return it.

  • 2 points

That's rough, hope it all works out.

  • 5 points

Very cool. The only thing I dislike is the way EVGA approached the design of this card. They should've stuck with the old designs, this one looks like it has a billboard on the side for advertisment.

  • 2 points

I agree. Their old cards were beautiful in their simplicity. They didn't need to be flashy for the community to buy them and recommend them. Honestly their warranty was why I picked them over the other OEMs.

  • 2 points

I don't absolutely hate the look of the cards, I just think they went the wrong direction. I wanted to pick up a Founders Edition just because I love the way nVidia reference coolers look, but alas, my wallet said no.

  • 2 points

Not my money, but I don't think I sent my buddy down the wrong path. Still way better performance than his 660 and the FE should do well in the ITX case.

  • 1 point

Yeah, the blower design was probably a good idea for mITX. Don't know if you plan on posting it but I'd love to see how it turns out!

  • 2 points

Oh I will. Hopefully the build will be happening before this weekend. I'll have it up just as soon as it does.

Very nice and the first build I've seen on here with an EVGA 1070. I wish I could afford a PC like this.

Glad to be the first of many! Photos of the card in a build might change their minds about it. Thank you for the kind words ~

I thought the EVGA cooler looked horrid in the initial photos, but in the flesh and in a case it looks much better.

Good to know that your thoughts have changed after seeing it in a case! Thanks!

Hello! Nice, clean looking build you have! I just have a question about the cable combs. I was thinking about getting some and I was wondering if they really do help with cable management and if they are worth getting? I wasn't too sure how much they help or if they are a gimmick so any help would be appreciated!

+1

  • 1 point

I don't know about the combs, but the braided cables are worth it. Made my μATX build so much cleaner.

  • 1 point

For sure! I've been seeing a lot of builds using the braided or individually sleeved cables and I'm 100% sold on that :) Thanks for your input!

  • 1 point

Cable combs are really an aesthetic thing, to make your cables look nice and clean and straight :) For me personally, I get a little shiver of delight in my spine when I see cable combs.

  • 1 point

Cable combs are actually really important if you go with individually sleeved cables. They break easy so it's a good idea to get a couple extra but without them sleeved cables can look really messy.

  • 1 point

Thanks. I'll probably pick some up since they are fairly cheap.

  • 1 point

Is it so hard to write microATX? I mean, mu cannot be faster to write.

  • 1 point

Nope not hard at all -> microATX aka mATX

I had an ASCII table open at the time so it was a copy/paste.

What? You didn't memorize all of unicode to be able to type any special character? Pfft talk about the lame way.

THIS IS...EVGA GEFORCE GTX 1070 (I mean SPARTA) lol

Great choice of parts and flawless cable management! +1

  • 1 point

Cable management took a long time to figure out in this build! Very satisfied with the final results! Thank you!

  • 2 points

That cable management though! Looks so clean, really like it. Waiting for my GTX 1070 FE which I am super excited for even if I'll get tons of crap for getting an FE. Personally I don't mind the looks of the new EVGA cards, only beef with it is that giant logo on the side haha but it doesn't look too ugly. +1

  • 2 points

The founder's edition is what people settled for when they couldn't get this one ): I do like it's clean look but one day a blower cooler will hold it's own... Thanks for the compliment! I really tried to make the cables tucked somewhere so I routed it up instead sticking out just above the video card.

  • 2 points

No problem at all! I need to get me some sick looking PSU cables to match my build and that would round it off so i can finally be completely satisfied (although let's be real is one ever truly satisfied with their build?) & Idk I personally didn't mind getting the FE. Got lots of open space for some cool air to go directly to the card but very true the blower coolers are not the best by any means although these seem to be a slight improvement from the 900 series.

  • 2 points

Yeah that logo is a bit much isn't it.

Did you really get a 1070 for that price!!!!???

  • 1 point

Yup, straight from EVGA website the moment it released.

  • 2 points

I love the build. One thing I strongly recommend you to change, take off the cable tie for the liquid cooler's pipes. By cable tying it, which isn't really necessary for coolers anyways, you are restricting its flow, therefore, it can overheat more easily (but the difference is about 10-20%, so consider my change). Other than that, looks great! +2 if I could!

  • 1 point

About that, I tied it to the top so it wouldn't touch the side panel. I made sure I didn't tighten it so it would disrupt any flow. I tested and temps were actually fine but thank you for your concern!

  • 2 points

No problem! And as it doesn't disrupt the flow, then really good job!

  • 2 points

Also, I love the PSU cables. For cable management, which I feel like I am an expert in, try to re-route the cables by interlacing them through the grommets. Trust me, it will look FABULOUS.

  • 1 point

Hmmm. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by interlacing them through the grommets. The 24 pin? Wish I had a photo to help xD Thanks!

  • 1 point

I will post a picture of my cable management in about 10 minutes

  • 1 point

Here is the link: https://gyazo.com/d17582193d454aecbf7111233feb0a50

The ONLY reason to why it doesn't look good (if you could see what I meant) was because I had a Semi-Modular PSU and not a Fully-Modular PSU. I am currently in the process of getting a new PC (building it), and it should be around August-November. When I make the completed build guide, come check it out!

  • 1 point

So if my 24 pin were to be similar in placement it would be routed behind the motherboard tray hole. I can't squeeze the pin through the tiny space like my sata cables without taking off the motherboard itself. If that's what you meant.

It caught my eye because it was a little different. I like different. Enjoy that lovely PC you have there, or at least, the new GPU :)

  • 2 points

I don't know about this build, too powerful, too neat, too clean. Components are too well balanced with each other, performance wise. There is no one component that you spent gobs of money on that would have been better spread out over the other components... Come on, man, can't you mess up and give us something to criticize? :D

Love it!! +1

  • 2 points

How thoughtful! :D Over the time I had it I criticized myself and found out ways to improve cable management. When buying the parts I kinda went for fans I didn't see a lot.

I'm just going to put this out there but i'm an AMD fanboy as most people call it but i like the look of this card. It looks sleek and clean and the EVGA plate on the side is a nice feature. Great build and good job. +1

  • 2 points

I have been trying so hard to get one of those! How did you do it???

  • 2 points

Well I waited until 9am on June 10 without sleep and kept refreshing the EVGA website and then I added it in my cart and checked out. All while the site was crashing I somehow managed to get one!

  • 2 points

I accidentally slept in because my alarm went off. Then I got an email about a restock at like 9:22 in the morning a week later, and I missed it because I was asleep again.

  • 1 point

That happened to me while bidding on a BenQ XL2411z twice, then one morning staying up til 6am I saw a listing of the 2420G for $218 and immediately purchased it. Now I love G-Sync.

How are your DT990s vs your HD598s? I've had the HD598s for over a year and run them through a schiit stack.

  • 1 point

The soundstage is definitely greater on the DT990s. I prefer them over the HD598s and replaced them as my daily drivers. I use my 598s for on the go or when I'm not on the computer. The DT990s are binded to my comp. I recommend them!

  • 1 point

I might try them one day, i've been fine with my HD598s so far.

Nice build bro +1, but am wondering if there is enough clearance at the bottom to fin a 120 rad gpu cooler because in the case description they said it can but judging from your photos i don't think its possible.

  • 2 points

Yeah I don't think it is possible because of the taken space where the front rad is. Thanks for the compliment though! I always wanted to add fans on the bottom.

  • 2 points

Hey guys i got the same build and same monitor is that build an overkill for the monitor ?

  • 1 point

In my opinion I don't think it is at all because I do enjoy my games at higher refresh rates. For example, I play Overwatch at 144+ fps maxed out and then I scaled it to higher resolutions around 60fps and I didn't enjoy it as good. Same goes for some other games. Each persons' preference may vary :)

  • 1 point

nice :) what about cs:go and wow will i be fine with that monitor its my 1st build too so im super lost i like competitive gaming thats why i went for that monitor trying to get an edge on others

  • 1 point

Yes you will be fine with that monitor as well as any other 144hz monitor. This monitor also has G-Sync so it'll help with tearing but at a price increase compared to ones without it. As for CS:GO running on a GTX 1070, you won't have to worry about frame dips because CS:GO isn't a very graphic intensive game. Is that the game you'll be spending the most time on?

  • 1 point

probably a lot of wow as well and some overwatch

  • 1 point

If it's just those games, you could probably save money and go for the cheaper cards like the RX 480 or July 7th's GTX 1060. Those games don't take too much gpu power other than getting the 144fps on Overwatch. Just my suggestion xD

  • 2 points

YO you suck at overwatch

Hi, I pretty much have the same parts as you except I ordered a Asus ROG STRIX 1080 OC EDITION. Does anyone know if it will fit in this case?

  • 0 points

I think it might fit but just barely as I tried to measure the 5.28in height in my case, try to send an email to Corsair just to make sure (: I tried to take the pcie express cable into consideration and now I think it might not fit...

  • 2 points

That is EXACTLY what I did. I saw a guy on reddit saying he has one in his air 240 right now and it fits without touching sidepanel, he has the asus maximus gene mobo too. I messaged him and asked for pics. Will link if he sends them.

  • 1 point

Good to know, looking forward to it! If it fits, maybe when I get a 1080Ti I'll keep the strix in mind :D

  • 1 point

"Yes it does fit! If it was a few mm bigger it would not have. The power connectors do push up against the panel however, but its not a big deal at all and looks perfectly fine when closed. Also to note I had a radiator installed in the front, and I had to unscrew that and turn it a bit in order to get the card to fit in length wise. After the card was in, the radiator can go back into place as it was before." The message he sent me! :)

  • 1 point

Damn that's quite the story! Depending on how thick the radiator and fans are it can make or break!

They are superb. Better than my HD 598.

  • 1 point

what games do you play with them? csgo?

  • 1 point

Not really a big fan of CS:GO. I play League and Overwatch a lot. It's overkill for those even with a 144hz monitor but I am going to start playing AAA titles like Mirror's Edge and stuff to really utilize this card.

  • 1 point

Is it worth upgrade you think? Also I have 2 970s in my build right now would you say the 1070 is worth selling the 970's?

  • 1 point

If you can sell them I would upgrade. I sold my SSC 970 for $230 about a month ago. Many reviews are out but trying to get it is rough.

  • 1 point

Hey how are the senheiser headphones

  • 1 point

They beat any gaming headsets imo. Have a detachable cable and the sound is amazing. I DT990 is a step above it in sound quality.

  • 2 points

I agree. Gaming headsets just aren't on the same level as good headphones with a quality mic. My Ultrasone hfi-780's dominate my Sennheiser Game Zero's.

I'm waiting patiently to get my hands on the 1070 SC! Any advice for getting through the traffic cone of despair?

Also wondering what the airflow is like. I want the SC for the aesthetics, but a lot of people are saying that the FE blower style is better for smaller cases like the Air 240, which I also happen to be building in.

  • 2 points

Hmmm I'm not sure when next stock will be available but keep your eye peeled. As for the FE vs SC in the Air 240, get what you really want. Thermals barely makes a difference for me. Temps are just fine. Good to see another 240 user! :)

  • 1 point

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I can't wait to actually put the rig together. My Asus Maximus VIII Gene is supposed to arrive today and then it's just a matter of when I can get my hands on the 1070 SC!

  • 1 point

Looking forward to the build! You're most welcome!

  • 1 point

At this point in time would anyone recommend spending the early adoption fee (time and money) for a board partner 1070 or go for a founders edition at similar price?

  • 1 point

I'd definitely go for a board partner card. FE doesn't cut it!

  • 2 points

Blower style might help based on case design but I got a 750ti to cover the gap and, well, at 1080p it works really well... ha

  • 1 point

where did you get the case and video card? ik you can get the case and 1070 on pcpartpicker but you got the case for a good deal :D

  • 1 point

I got the case off of a small Newegg nail and I bought the video card from EVGA website on release day! (:

Great suggestion but I actually like the hint of red paired with black and white. Maybe it's too much for you :3

No issues with height? Seems like a nice fit. I have this case (should have got a ******* white one, looks way better) and was debating which 1070 I should get. Card looks good in my opinion man, nice build

No issues with height indeed! I love white cases! Can't really adore black too much. As for which card, they all look good to me in the end but what about to you? Thanks for the comments!

Gonna grab the EVGA card, I'll post a reply with a link on this thread to the build when I'm done.

How are the DT 990s? Are you using an amp for them or is it not necessary?

  • 1 point

The DT990s are amazing! I power them with O2 Dac/Amp from JDS Labs and my ears are spoiled... Love em, recommend them. iPhone 5 powers them good too at just above half volume if that answers your question.

  • 2 points

Thanks for the reply, I plan to buy the non-"Pro" version, which will cost me about twice as much as you got yours for :P. Amp wise, I still haven't found one that I really like for under $200.

  • 1 point

I still scream at the high price tags xD I try to find em for cheap. I paid $184 for my dac/amp got it for lucky steal!

How did you get the BenQ XL2420G 24.0" 144Hz Monitor for $200?

I don't know why everyone hates that EVGA logo, I think it looks pretty slick. I can see you had no problem fitting it in the case? I've seen multiple websites advertising different dimensions but it seems the 111mm height is correct judging by the pics. How're you finding the card, temps, performance, noise?

Great build man. :)

Thank you! The card is definitely worth the upgrade over a 970. Performs as expected and the temps reach high 70s while the noise level is not that noticeable at under 35% fan speed overclocked at a little over 2000Mhz and memory at 4513MHz. My room does get hot after hours of playing though.

Great build! I'm building something super similar soon.

Anyways, where did you find that mobo for so cheap? Also, which headphones do you prefer more, I'm debating between the ATH M50x, HD 598, DT 990, or MDR 1R.

Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for the compliment! I got the motherboard from Microcenter as open boxed. For headphones, I would take the DT 990s over the other 3 for sound quality. I also like the HD598s for it's detachable cable that I use on the go. Not really sure about the MDR 1R but they look quite expensive. As for insight, I would replace stock fans if money isn't an issue. If you have any questions feel free to message me!

Hey does the gpu boost up to 2 ghz?

Without touching anything on overclocking, GPU Boost 3 boosts this card to around the high 1.9ghz. I managed to overclock it to 2.025ghz.

This is a great build, but not worthy of being featured. Lack of effort in the post itself, however still +1.

The post itself lacks I agree. My first one was a novel of why I chose each part and I didn't feel like including it in here. Didn't think I'd get featured xD Thanks for your opinion!

No they are not detachable. Wish they were, then I'd take them on the go!

Yeah the EVGA logo is a bit overwhelming; the rest of the card looks sweet though. The build itself is clean and superb! +1

Its about the same size as the GeForce logo on reference cards. I really like the look of the ACX and ICX coolers from EVGA.

But hey, that's just me.

  • 3 points

I have to agree :(

I want to like it but there's something just slightly off about it. I do like the sleek slim rectangular shape though. I wish they had just gone with the EVGA logo on the side and not the entire GeForce GTX 1070. Looks weird.

I'd love to get the Galax 1080 HOF, but I'm not sure if that'll be available in the U.S.

Which out of all the custom 1080s do you like the best?

Personally I like the EVGA Hybrid edition because it is very sleek and simple looking. Other brands are pretty nice too nothing I dislike too much.

Yeah I'm not seeing anything I like either. Seems GPU makers are still on a Red/Black kick or have three slot coolers. I don't get it...

MSI ASUS and Zotac all look pretty good though. The rest are not great and EVGA have the worst I think

I do agree with you. I think the better looking one is the MSI.

I like it because it has kind of a mechanical look, but it certainly isn't refined or subtle.

Yeah the Windforce 390x is ugly too. Could be my hatred for the card utilities and heating my freaking room has turned it that way for me.

They really need to find your downvote troll. Pi and I talk on here all the time. I didn't take this comment in any negative light and neither should you.

I think I have a downvoter too. You say something that someone doesn't like one time and they make passive-aggressively haunting you part of their daily routine. Pretty sad.
