Oh where do I even begin with this build ...
Initially I had an old dell optiplex 990 that I was planning to soup up with a 960 and a new PSU to send of to my friend as an upgrade to his current rig I built for him a year ago however that turned out as a wash as I realized that the case would not fit any 960 that I could find for sub $250. I came to the conclusion just to cannibalize the system for parts and build a computer from a mix of new and old components.
Purpose of this machine: Essentially gaming and lasting a long time this will be the last upgrade he gets for a long long time ...
What worked: Installing an Intel CPU was a harrowing experience since I was not used to the fact that there would be a hell of a crunch every time you set the cpu down other than that it went smoothly
Problems CPU cooler install: I messed up with the cooler in where I was not putting enough pressure on the clips and not securing it properly figured out about 20 minutes of fiddling with it
GPU install : This card was a real pain to try to put into the case as the card would not be able to fit with the mobo installed since the PCI E slot was in the way so it was about an hour of trial and error trying to get the damn thing to click into place. It was a hell of a tight fit and I latter added a paper spacer to keep the fan from bashing itself on the case
OS install: Found out that USB 3.0 drive didn't work very well had to create a USB 2.0 boot drive
I7 sand bridge blows the socks off my own athlonX4 it's fast ... very fast o,...,o
Pros: Adorable little cpu cooler gets the job done and fits the case
Cons: Intel push click mounts requires alot more force than I feel comfortable with
Salvaged RAM it's good enough
Snappy boot drive surprised how fast it boots even when compared to my own AMD rig's SSD good value for the dollar
Scrap drive for "stuff" I think there's something wrong with it but it hasn't died yet ...
My friend has had this drive since june 2014 still going strong
For $220 Canadian this is one of the best deals I could get locally for used parts it'll last him for years to come
Lovely case to work with looks nice and cute sitting on the table :3
Modular and lots of juice can't complain about it :)
