Description

This is my first build, and on a strict sub $600 budget. I build this for gaming/streaming(borderlands 2, WoW, and others), college work(programming, and other homework), and some overclocking.

CPU: I knew i wanted an AMD processor, but was torn between the 8320 and the 6300, for $20 more i went with the 8 core, mostly for the streaming aspect.

Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo, no explanation needed other than great cooling for low price point.

Mobo: The reviews on this board are very good, has lots of heat sinks, and 8+2 phase power. I know its not a 990 board and 10+ phase power but dollar for dollar this is supposed to be an awesome board.

GPU: I originally wanted a 660 ti, but my budget wouldn't allow it, There was a sale on this for $99 and i picked it up. With mantle and true audio support, decent clock, and 2gb memory this card should more than meet my needs.

Power supply: very cheap with mail in rebate, and 80+ efficiency.

Memory: 4gb gskill, cheap and should be more than enough for me.

Case: Raidmax Super Atlas(not on this site anymore) I got this case for $19.99 after rebate, and am very pleasantly surprised with it. Cable management was smooth with decent amount of space behind the mobo and the reliefs in the back panel. The evo actually fit which was my main concern, albeit very (very) close).

HDD: I originally had an sdd but price changes ultimately sent me in the hdd direction. I will add an ssd later and put my OS on it.

Optical Drive: cheap and all i will need.

OS: Its Windows 7, um yep.

The audio is 2x Cerwin Vega E-78 speakers and a Pioneer Vsx-817 receiver. It has optical audio capabilities for my Xp-400 headset and a ton of power. Very crisp and loud setup.

I am very pleased with the build and price, as i came in at $580 including windows. The monitor was a gift of sorts from my wonderful wife. I will be adding some lights as the build doesn't have any at all.

I will be testing and tweaking for the next few days, and will update as i go.

The name is Decimate backwards so that AMD is in the correct order.

clever name

Looks good, and i hope you upgrade the video card soon along with the hdd. Is 320GB enough?

Also i agree that you need some lights in there as well. I'd get blue, but red would match too since everything is grey and black.

EDIT: RAM is the most important upgrade. You NEED more because you said you are streaming. I'd go for 16GB, but 8GB is acceptable. 4GB just isn't gonna cut it, sorry.

Thanks man, 320 will be plenty for me for awhile, Im not a hoarder of anything on the pc. I want the speed of the ssd though. Once i thoroughly put it through the paces i will know for sure what upgrades i need, ram is def on the short list already though.

yeah ram is what you need to get first, then worry about other things like ssd or graphics card

You may not be thinking about buying an SSD right this minute, but I just thought I would throw this out there, if not for you then for anyone else who might be interested: Amazon.com has a really good sale right now on the Sandisk Extreme II. The 240GB version is $140 and the 120GB is $99. (and if you're a Prime member you'll have it within two days). This is a one day sale though, so it ends in a few hours. This is one of the best SSDs on the market-- up there with the Samsung 840 Pro. I'd be buying one right now myself if I hadn't just bought a new car a few weeks ago (Someone rear-ended me at a red light. :( .) Note that I have no affiliation with Amazon or Sandisk-- I just saw the sale in my e-mail and thought I'd mention it.

Got some tweaking done and settled at an oc of 4.6 on 1.3375v. Runs cool and quiet so it drops down while at idle. I'm going to tweak a little more over the weekend.

EDIT---Backed off to 4.5

Finally had some time to tinker and am running @ 4.7 1.38v. It runs good there but I have been having some problems with afterburner. The next project is to see what i can get out of the card without it freezing everything.

Did you run into any problems booting up with that motherboard after overclocking? Mine turns of for a few seconds...then off... And then it boots up :(

I know this is old and i hope you have figured out the issue, but mine does the same thing. I think thats just how Gigabyte does things. It will turn on all the fans kick on, then shut back down and then back on and boots up.
