Description

I use this computer for some casual gaming, and media composition. For example, I play some vanilla Minecraft and watch YouTube pretty regularly. Everything went well; however, I am missing a true quad core, a ssd, and a beefier graphics card. So, right now I'm getting together a list of upgrades and will update this while I buy parts.

Good build. Just one question, why did you go with the GA-b85N? You can find H97 and Z97 ITX boards for that price.

Thank you. I don't really know. I mean this was my first build and I was pretty intimidated by all the choices. I was also looking for on-board wi-fi. So, I mean I could have done better all around I feel like, but I don't regret it by any means. Hopefully I can fix it with a round of upgrades lol.

It is much faster than I thought it was going to be. But I am looking to buy an i5 or i7 because of the dual core limitations this has.

Are those limitations gaming related, or something else? I'm shopping for an i3 for gaming and basic internet stuff with the intention of upgrading to a Broadwell i5 or i7 when they come out. I just need the i3 to last me a year.

Its just some gaming. It is not slow by any means. Its just that some games don't do well with the dual core. But Minecraft, Sniper Elite 3, and Dirt 3 work beautifully for me.

I have a build similar to yours but it's not done yet. I just have a question about the graphics card; is it loud and also how well does it handle games?

No it isn't to me. Now you can completely change fan speeds and such from the AMD software to make it louder or softer. I have it right by me, as you can see from the pictures, and it's just a little hum. I don't notice it at all with even some Apple ear buds in. It can run Minecraft very well, as well as Dirt 3, Sniper Elite 3, and Borderlands 2 on ultra settings. It can probably do more, but I'm not a very heavy gamer so I couldn't tell you on the latest games. Also I only have an i3 which can bottle neck just a little I feel like sometimes.
