Description

So this was my first build since fitting a voodoo 3 to my PC back in 1998. It's not for me it's for a video production editor, and they had a budget of £1,200. After plenty of research these were the parts that I settled on.

Everything went together pretty well, I was surprised at how tough closing up the processor latch was, but then again the last time I did this processors had about 40 pins compared to the 100's + contact patches on these new processors.

The NZXT case held everything well, and spending time on cable management through the process has kept everything nice and clean while there is still room for future expansion.

The only compromise was with the graphics card, had originally planned for the 970 but the 960 will have to do.

Nothing has been overclocked yet, however we will be benchmarking this in the next few days and will then refine the set up, especially as we start running a few videos through the system.

All in all very happy with it!

Nice Build! Im jw. why didn't you put the gpu power cable through the basement cut out next to the ssd's?

The GPU power is actually easier to pass from behind the white structural bar and it looks a bit better there.

Nice build, any thought of using an M.2 SSD in the system? The case looks nice, but I think I would want two 120 mm spots for additional water cooling.

Thanks, yeah, M.2 is definately on the cards for Future, the editor that is using this machine has never had anything non-mac before so showing them the future-expand-ability of these systems is a fun challenge.

When you mean two 120mm spots what are you referring to, at the moment the kraken has two fans? (plus two internal case fans)? We'll be running the system over the next few days in the 'real world' so will keep an eye on temperatures to see how it copes.

I was referring to the only 120 mm spot on the top panel, I would prefer to have two 120 mm spots on the top panel so you can put a 240 rad up there. The water cooling options just seem limited if you wanted to cool the cpu and gpu unless you possibly use a hybrid gpu and place it on the top 120 mm.

As the build stands now I would not think your temps would be to crazy as long as you keep the voltage down on the cpu (if you plan on overclocking it a lot).
