Description

I’ve been gaming on an Alienware m14x since December of 2011 so this is a major upgrade. I’m a technician in the Navy and move around a lot so it has made sense to stick with that, but I’m finally settling down for the last 9 months or so before I get out so I’m ready to make the move to a desktop. The m14x was my first gaming pc/laptop and once I got it I instantly got the bug to learn more about pc gaming and hardware in general. I’ve been researching desktop hardware for about a year and a half and have planned this build since about May of 2014. I started with all my base hardware selections but after doing so much research, reading so many reviews, and combing through builds on pcpartpicker I probably switched out everything for something else at least twice, which led me to this final parts selection. Initially I wanted it to cost around $3k but I said screw it, this is my ‘hey you suffered for the last 5 years in the Navy’ present to myself so I let it slide to $4k. If you subtract the cost of the monitor, the keyboard, and the headphones, I actually feel like I didn’t do too bad for the price of the tower itself. I started buying the hardware in mid August as things went on sale and finished all purchases at the end of October. I originally planned on finishing around the end of November but got a little impatient. =)

The purpose of this machine is to destroy any game I throw at it in 1440p (144hz) for awhile. Right now I’m playing a lot of BF4 but plan on starting AC4, Borderlands Pre-Sequel, and DA:I real soon. I know that some of the parts are overkill, but I’m going to be honest, I just wanted an all around bada** rig that not only performed well, but looked just as good. Money wasn’t a huge factor for me. Initially I chose the 900D but switched to the 750D because it still has all the room I need and then some, even if I decide to do a custom loop which probably will happen in the future, and then even farther down the line if I want to make any upgrades. I plan on using this case for many years to come, along with some of the other components which explains why I went with RM1000. Hopefully I can make the i7 4790k last for awhile too, I feel like even though next-gen processors are out I really don’t see a reason (right now) to go with anything over this. Other components I went with, including h100i, Maximus VI Formula, Dominator Platinum, 840 Pro, and Corsair Quiet Edition fans were chosen mostly because from everything I’ve reviewed, these are all very solid choices regarding performance and aesthetics.

Now for what really matters, the GPU’s. The 780ti’s were an obvious first choice, I just wanted the muscle. But after the 980’s came out it made sense to go with those. With the better power efficiency I’m excited to overclock and see how far I can take them. Since the 980’s were out of stock for awhile I went ahead and started the build without them.

Everything went pretty smooth, as you can see I kind of went crazy with the paint. I originally was only going to do a couple things but when I realized how quick and easy it was to throw a coat over something I went all out. I’m really happy with the color scheme, I didn’t want too much green so I went white with the motherboard, hard drive bay, and case gpu backplates. I think it actually makes the green pop out a little more. I even used some white electrical tape to spice up the case’s USB 3.0 cable. The cable management was what I was worried about the most and as you can see I was a little OCD about it. I probably spent about 5 hours alone on cable management but I finally placed every wire/cable perfectly (in my opinion). Overall it's pretty clean because I had to wait so long to get the 980's, I wasn't in a rush at all and took a lot of time to make everything as clean as possible. The 750D is amazing, it seemed like there was an anchor or hole or whatever I needed placed perfectly for everything. I highly, highly recommend this case. I guess the only issue was that the sticky tape on the NZXT Hue LED strip didn't stick for very long so I went ahead and used super glue to keep it in place, problem solved. I’m going to make sure I post a lot of pictures of the cable management because I know I scoured through a ton of builds to find individual placements so for anyone who would like some ideas I want you to have a full resource right here. I finally was able to get a hold of the two 980's after about 3 weeks of waiting and I think their paint job turned out really awesome.

I would also like to thank the 10,000 cable ties that heroically gave their life for this build, you will not be forgotten. Finally, for all of you curious folks out there, yes. This computer does run Minesweeper at ultra settings.

Just a reminder, this is my first build so I am absolutely open to positive criticism and recommendations and of course if you have any questions about any of the hardware or experiences with this build please ask! Also, if you would like to see a picture with the LED’s at a certain color just ask and I’ll throw one up, cheers!

^ Me when I woke up this morning and saw I had almost 150 upvotes overnight, thanks everyone!

Update 11/15/14: My ROG Swift came in a couple of days ago and it's amazing. I've been reading about some quality assurance issues with these monitors but mine arrived with no issues at all. I highly recommend this monitor, playing games at 1440p, at 144hz with G-Sync is absolutely night and day from where I'm coming from and I couldn't be happier. I was also having some problems with flickering when playing in full screen mode in SLI, but found out that it had something to do with having the SLI bridge on the left slots of the cards. I just moved it over to the right and the flickering was gone. Pics have been added of my full setup! I don't really like having to put the tower under my desk but it's just temporary until we relocate next year. I also had time today to overclock, these pics are also included. I met and slightly surpassed the goal/sweet spot for these cards which is 1500 MHz GPU clock at 1512 MHz so I'm happy about that. Memory clock was set to 1830 MHz and I also set an overvoltage of 50mV. 4790k was running smoothly, 4.7GHz at 1.280V. After about 4 hours of strenuous gaming, top GPU peaks at 86C and bottom at 83C.

Update 02/15/16: I recently made the switch from the Blackwidow Ultimate to a the CODE 104-Key with Cherry MX-Clear switches from WASD Keyboards. The clicking of the Blackwidow was a little too loud, especially when I've been up late writing code for school. I modded the new board with 40 A-L 0.2 mm O-ring switch dampeners so there is much more of a softer sound when typing but still a full keystroke. This keyboard is an absolute pleasure to type on. For anyone who spends a serious amount of time on their computer, I highly recommend investing in a peripheral like this. The Spectre Project build is still chugging on stronger than ever, 15 months after it's debut!

I would like to make a comment, but please excuse me for just a moment. I have to grab my jaw off the floor before the cat buries it in the litterbox.

Burney21 3 Builds 35 points 33 months ago

Same. Thats your FIRST build. Holy crap.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 49 points 33 months ago

My thoughts were if I was going to do one, then I was going to do one right.

Burney21 3 Builds 17 points 33 months ago

You did sir. That is sick.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 7 points 33 months ago

Thank you!

lemonademolotovz 11 points 30 months ago

I'm gonna say thank you to you for proving that there is in fact a heaven

lemonademolotovz 1 point 30 months ago

also, how's the cooling on 980's, i was thinking of doing that but was sceptical about how cool they'd be, hope you're happy with your amazing *** build

IAMTHEPIXEL 1 point 14 months ago

Are you going to upgrade to 1080

PCPartPicker needs a favorite button...

Meithen submitter 1 Build 12 points 33 months ago

I agree!

Echo1 1 point 23 months ago

I book mark my favorites, but that really isn't as good as having FVT button.

jimmystempura 2 Builds 18 points 33 months ago

This build does give the impression of becoming a potential Joker project but nevertheless, this looks incredible.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 10 points 33 months ago

I did think about this and switch the LED's to purple for a little bit lol, thanks!

Warhead_Builder 1 point 1 month ago

I also love the Mass Effect case :) The whole build looks bad-***, but the case and LEDs are what ties it all together. Again, insanely impressive for a first build

gigagoku12 1 Build 16 points 33 months ago

This is one of the most incredible builds I have ever seen. The paint job is exquisite and the cable management is incredible. This could have had better parts for the price but buddy, that doesn't matter. Congrats on the build and I hope you enjoy the upgrade from the alienware

Meithen submitter 1 Build 3 points 33 months ago

It's kind of blowing my mind, thanks for the praise!

Kohiro 3 points 32 months ago

I was going to say the same thing as gigagoku12 when I was looking at the pics and reading your description section. On my build I'm going with the new 5930k but damn that beast you built look soooo sweet! I'm inspire by it. Paint job [√]

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

Thanks! It's actually really easy to paint stuff. When are you building yours?

SunTechi 1 point 32 months ago

Go with 5820k, it outperformances the 5930k in many ways, if you're going nuts, just go with the 5960x xO

squirtkenny 8 points 33 months ago

That looks amazing and I am absolutely and 100% jealous of your fantastic build, thanks for your service. +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 6 points 33 months ago

Thanks, I appreciate that!

bluecooldang 6 points 33 months ago

Awesome build for the price and congrats on surviving the navy +1 and P.S are you planning to OC it?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 5 points 33 months ago

Thank you, and I'm absolutely going to overclock. Tonight I'm just kind of staring at it in awe and tomorrow I have all night to experiment and benchmark.

JoyousUnicorn 2 points 20 months ago

Can I get your benchmark results?

JoyousUnicorn 1 point 21 months ago

Can I get your benchmark results to compare it to a mac pro plz?

bobbae 5 points 33 months ago

I'm wet.

bobbae 4 points 33 months ago

Yes, like that. Exactly.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

Thank you so much!

Euphemia 4 points 33 months ago

There are good builds, and then there are great builds, and then there's your build. Awesome color scheme and very clean. Easily one of the best builds I've seen this month. +2 (I've got another account reserved for these special occasions).

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

Ha thank you so much! I wanted mine to be unique and I don't think I've seen a green/white color scheme build on this site, there might be one hiding lol

blazend 4 points 21 months ago

Holy S***. Def the cleanest build i have seen on pcpartpicker. Nice +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

Thanks!

QuantumPhysics 3 points 33 months ago

Really clean build and nice color scheme! +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks! I had a lot of time while waiting for the 980's to work on the overall cleanliness.

ManNamedMatt 3 points 27 months ago

Love the creativity and the meticulous attention to detail with EVERY aspect of this build. Definitely one of the best builds on PCPartPicker.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 27 months ago

Thanks!

49ers 3 points 19 months ago

It is a beautiful piece of art. Nice modding with the color scheme. Tremendous cable management.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

Thank you!

EpicBuilds 3 points 19 months ago

You've literally made the best build I ever saw, even better tha Linus's personal PC, this build is just epic. You're devoted to that PC. How much did it took you to build this PC a week?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 18 months ago

It took about 3 weeks, but I started building soon after the 980's came out and they were sold out everywhere for weeks. I have about 15-20 hours in this.

jaddh 3 points 17 months ago

After proper observation of thus build, i pinched myself 23 times before realising it is real life. Then i logged in to my bank account and checked my funds. After confirming that i'm poor, i closed this tab and searched on google "Top paying jobs in the US"

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

I've heard if you keep logging into your bank account, money will suddenly appear at some point, that's my strategy anyways (still trying to confirm legitimacy).

violetrainxx 2 Builds 2 points 33 months ago

It's so beautiful.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 4 points 33 months ago

Thanks, I put a lot of effort into it and I hope everyone on here enjoys it.

Interro-chan 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

I am amazed, truly a master piece.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I appreciate that!

Ksongs 2 Builds 2 points 33 months ago

This is seriously absolutely beautiful nice job +100000 if I could

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you!

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Hey could I get your opinion on those razer krakens?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I like them a lot, I think they are great for a pair of headphones under $100. I've had 2 pairs with no problems.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

And to clarify, they are the 7.1's.

Ksongs 2 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks! And sorry I asked like 10 days after my first comment I just started looking for headphones and was considering the krakens haha.

CKAMP 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

absolutely a work of art. Thank you for your service in the military and congrats on your fist build! absolutely fantastic.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you so much, I just checked your build out too, awesome! Adding a little paint to a GPU is so easy but can give a build a lot of personality, very nice.

CKAMP 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Exactly! Enjoy your new baby haha and thanks for checking mine out.

NeoKorean 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

sleekest build i've ever seen NICE

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you!

heliontide 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

Nicely done! Building a PC for my girlfriend at the moment, and I'll be modding a lot of the colours to go for an orange accent. Love this build and the green/white. Only thing that kind of bugs me are the red accents that are still visible from the mobo. But other than that, sheesh, this is a monster! Cheers :)

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

Thanks man, the good thing about the red is that you really have to look for them, the lower slot is actually really hard to see unless you're low down. I might get a black slot protector to cover it up though, I'm still looking into that.

heliontide 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Either way, great attention to detail. Going through the photos, I was stressing out at how terrible the colour coordination was, but once everything started getting painted I felt a lot better haha. Just out of curiosity, what did you use to paint the metal parts? Plastidip? I'm looking at doing some modding myself and I'd love some tips.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

If you look at the 3rd picture it has both paints I used, both are good for pretty much any surface with no sanding needed. I'm not an experience painter at all and I had no issues using both of those. I only had plans to paint the fan rings when I began but it evolved into this lol. Look at other builds on here, that's how I got all my ideas while I was building.

WizardLyfe 2 points 29 months ago

Well done man

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 29 months ago

Thank you!

DJGamingX 2 points 18 months ago

Brilliant build! If only i had the money xD

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

Thank you!

DJGamingX 1 point 17 months ago

No worries man.

The Aesthetics, the Colorway, the Power... I have died and gone to heaven.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 17 months ago

Gaming PC's in Heaven - Confirmed!

xMillenia 2 points 17 months ago

After reading the description, reviewing the part list, and reading some comments, I decided to check the photos out. I guess your PC is too godly for my eyes to rest upon, my page crashes everytime I click to view the photos.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 16 months ago

Dang, I wonder why?

4wayEli 2 points 14 months ago

The amount of time you spent taking photos and writing the description was probably more time than you spent making the PC. Awesome job

Relentless07 2 points 8 months ago

Gorgeous build, absolutely gorgeous. I'm doing my first build this week... inspired

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 6 months ago

Thanks, I hope it turned out good!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 5 months ago

My PC is in the company of a legend.

AtomicDonut17 2 points 5 months ago

I've been jealous of builds.

I've been envious of prowess.

Never. Ever. Have I been more pushed to tears because of this beautiful thing.

Not only did you serve and honor our nation, you honor the gaming community with this.. piece de résistance.

I have but one question for your magnificent beast of a machine...

Can it run Minecraft?

LeOrange 1 point 33 months ago

Gorgeous OuO

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you!

mzzxx 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Why the formula vi over vii? The vii has a z97 chipset so you could overclock with that h100i.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I plan on sticking with Devil's Canyon for awhile, and I was under the impression that the main update of Z97 had to do with PCI-E M.2 support, I may be wrong? If you are able to overclock better in any way with Z97 I was not aware, but I think I'll be able to overclock just fine with the VI.

tpb1908 1 point 33 months ago

Z97 is a 9 series chip set. Hence the name. It has a few nicer bits like you said

But also,if you want to upgrade to a 6th gen chip z97 (or h97) will support that whereas older boards won't.

Stay tuned for overclocking/benchmarking results later this week, I'm just sitting here enjoying it at the moment lol

zpam 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

This looks unreal my friend, very nice job.

Fattsgalore 1 point 33 months ago

Well done and well documented...

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks, I like to see builds progress through the pictures so I thought it'd be cool to show everyone the whole process.

Beastliness23 3 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Oh my god. I don't even have words to describe this build. This is by far the best build I've seen on this website, and I've been on here for a little over a year now. Very well done. +1.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks, I checked out your builds too and you've got talent for being younger, very nice!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I may have done some research ;)

Dimitri.Mamulashvili 1 point 33 months ago

can you give me link to that reasearch? :) Thank you

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I didn't read an article or anything I just spent a lot of time on this site looking at other builds and saw what worked and what didn't for others.

smQC 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Please tell me the inspiration was femshep.

I applaud that you are rewarding yourself for working your *** off and doing it in style. +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I'm going to be honest, I haven't done a playthrough as femshep but when I get my monitor I might have to.

Thanks for the praise!

smQC 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I prefer femshep voice acting by a large margin, definitely worth playing through again!

I expect photos of the new monitor with a sweet femshep background :)

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Don't worry I'm going to throw some photos up of the whole setup once I get the monitor!

RustyBeans 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Sexy build bro +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks man, I checked out your build earlier, how do you like that keyboard? I almost got it.

RustyBeans 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I love it, I'm a huge fps gamer myself and I found it suits me perfectly for that genre of games (used to have steelseries apex, hated it)

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I've only been typing on Blackwidow for a couple days now and it seems pretty nice, a lot different moving to a mechanical keyboard. I'm going to test it out with some BF4 tonight.

nathan316 2 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

I feel ashamed because your build is just so good it shames all other builds

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Lol I don't know if it's that good, but thanks!

nathan316 2 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

that is very good!

captainwaffles 1 point 33 months ago

Amazing build...+1.. just a few questions:how did you disassemble the 980's? Can you comment a link on the paint and primer you used? and how did you apply the paint?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

Thank you! It's pretty easy to take apart the 980's there are just a ton of screws. Here is the link I used, check it out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCclKJQGPKs

My 3rd picture is of the paints I used, I knew some people would be curious. I just took the parts outside on a piece of cardboard and applied with horizontal strokes about 10 inches away from the hardware. Trust me, it's a lot easier then you may think, I was intimidated by painting my stuff but once I started doing it I realized how simple it is. I'm surprised more people don't do it, it's probably just the intimidation factor.

captainwaffles 1 point 33 months ago

Dude thanks! that was really helpful

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Glad I could help!

Lfren38 1 point 33 months ago

excuse me as i go cry in the corner

Lfren38 1 point 33 months ago

btw got any tips for a first time builder?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Have patience! Take the time to research parts, what works good with each other and look at other builds to see what worked for them and what didn't. Also take your time building it, that way you can really think about what you're doing instead of focusing on just finishing it so you can play on it.

TrentScott 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I love how you changed the color on the PSU, great idea for making it blend in.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

Thanks, it only took about 10 minutes to cut out the masking tape, nice and easy. I don't see a lot of people do it and I hate seeing color themed builds where the color on the psu doesn't match lol

ManThunder 1 point 33 months ago

Amazing build! That has to be the perfect components used in a computer ever, i am so jealous of those parts and the look of them is great as well. great build, great parts, and great color! Have fun with those parts.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks, I spent a lot of time researching different hardware and it really paid off.

Omnitech_Nz 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Going to be doing a build for combined Christmas Birthday present for self and seriously thinking about custom painting absolutely everything as you have done...

Are there any issues you had that may be important to know about? and if there are what precautions would I take to prevent them?

As for the computer, IT IS INCREDIBLE, love the colour scheme and definitely well balanced in the Cpu/Gpu combo

Absolutely a +100 if possible

Omnitech_Nz

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I had no issues really, I did try to paint on a windy day and I don't recommend that lol. The paints I used worked well though, check out my 3rd picture if you would like to see them. Don't be intimidated by painting, it's easy. Thanks for the praise!

Omnitech_Nz 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Will definitely do so

Once again love the build and will notify you when I do mine

It will probably be red and black (I know its overused)

Omnitech_Nz

Lfren38 1 point 33 months ago

I'm gonna do a black/blue build but cause I can I'm buying an ASUS Gryphon Z87 than getting the armor kit than I'm painting it a fluorescent blue which will look sick in the NZXT S340 which is the case I'm going to get

Omnitech_Nz 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I've seen that combination before and it does look rather awesome

Lfren38 1 point 33 months ago

I've changed my mind cause the cheapest dual sli my that supports lga1150 is red/black I've decided on something I've never seen before I'm going to build a stealth pc so im going to get all black components and 2 GTX 980's same with meithen's build but instead of green I'll paint them black so everything is black

Omnitech_Nz 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

Hello again Meithen.

The time has come and I have purchased my parts for the new computer and will be building it as soon as the parts arrive.

Will hope to get it up on here within a few months, possibly by February

This is the part list that I purchased - http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Omnitech_Nz/saved/FwfnTW

Hope you are loving the awesome addition you made to this awesome site and of course merry Christmas to all

The only thing that ruins the perfection is Razer Headphones. Its like a puddle of liquid **** in the middle of the hall of awesomeness. Other than that - 11/10 Would Sex.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I like the 7.1's, and I've never had an issue with any Razer products. Thanks though!

DCarnage 1 point 33 months ago

Freakin' beautiful!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you!

MockSeventy7 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

This is a really cool build. +1 for the Mass Effect theme!

If (when!) you get a custom loop in there, be sure to update this. It will turn a great build into an amazing build!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

I wanted a theme but not an overwhelming one so I just used the stickers, they're subtle but add a lot to the personality. All updates will be documented, thank you!

bsdev820 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Hello!

First off - Absolutely beautiful build. Great part choices, and an absolutely great product. I noticed that you still have that one red PCI slot which, if you're anything like me, probably bothers you a bit. The product linked below may be your answer to that, if you are so inclined.

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11170/ram-51/Lamptron_Advanced_Slot_Protector_Kit_Version_II_-_DDRII_and_DDRIII_-_Black_SP2.html?tl=g51c519s1492&id=cg7gRQie

Anyways, great job! I love to see these on this site!

+1

:)

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

Those are pretty cool I might have to look into that, I'm glad you enjoyed the build!

Gleiss 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Well Done!...that flat white paint without any primer on the mobo armor is amazing i can't stop looking at it, for white and green i can picture this with a G1 Sniper 5 but then again that one has no armor and you don't like too much green, nice custom emblem amazing custom paint mod thank's for posting! +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I think the mobo armor is one of my favorite parts of this build, thanks!

xLeon 1 point 33 months ago

brb changing underwear

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Good luck with that!

StarSide 1 point 33 months ago

Absolutely phenomenal build my friend. Been on this site a while. There have been very few builds which ever motivate me to say this but thank you for being a part of this site, and letting us experience your builds. This is truly one of the best builds on the site and I think the amount of up-votes you've received in this short space of time reflects that.

If you would be so kind as to answer one of my questions. Did you use the same spray paint to stencil the N7 logo onto the window, or did you do it a different way?

I'm going to be doing much the same thing soon. Was there any problems you ran into while attempting to paint your hardware?

Once again, phenomenal build.

~Peace~

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you! Even Im surprised that's it's gotten so many so quick. I actually ordered the stickers on Etsy from Designs From Vinyl, I just got a white decal and a green one and used half of each. Same for the Spectre logo. I didn't run into any painting problems, it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I appreciate the prasie!

-HH- 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I love the build but personally I think that the white offsets it a little... Personal opinion though!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

We're all entitled, I wanted a green build but I also wanted it to be a little different than others.

-HH- 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

ahh! Well good on you :D

tinman072 1 point 33 months ago

I've gone through your album at least four times before commenting. This is art. Beautiful. What I really like about this is that it's so clean. There is so much power in that PC, yet you managed to tidy everything up nicely. Have fun gaming!!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Even I look through the album about every hour or so, I've been showing it off at work today, thanks!

rishabhchugh13 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

That looks awesome! What did you use to paint your components and is it safe? I've always wanted to but haven't had the guts to risk it. Also, how long do you have to leave it to dry?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

My 3rd picture is of the spray paints I used and they worked great with no issues. Trust me, painting is very easy just have a plan i.e. will you need masking tape like I did for the psu, or can you just paint something straight up with no risk of damage like the fan rings. Once you start though it's very easy. I let my stuff dry for about 5 hours.

rishabhchugh13 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Ok, thanks! I might give it a try soon :)

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Good luck! Let me know when you do it, I'd like to check it out.

rishabhchugh13 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks! Might not be for a while though, as I am still saving up to build my dream rig :)

teadrinker61 1 point 33 months ago

this was my reaction yo seeing the finished product, makes my build look like a bowl of rice krispies snap, crackle, pop

http://giphy.com/gifs/drop-dead-fred-movie-m7SHNICFse3Go

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Ha thanks! I think I made the same face.

DeathShallWait 1 point 33 months ago

Normandy! Awesome build, very clean, very pretty.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

That was my second choice for a name, thank you!

nigerianjones 1 point 33 months ago

Like the white and green color scheme, I want to do the same thing with hackintosh dual booted with linux.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I thought it was unique, thanks!

crazylocopr 1 point 33 months ago

Amazing. I'd argue you could have gone with an Asus Sabertooth model, since the board has a greenish color underneath, but the build is beautiful nonetheless.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you, I think I hid the red pretty good and I'm really happy with that white armor.

razorcustoms 1 point 33 months ago

That..My good sir, kicks ***

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you!

nhall.bob 1 point 33 months ago

I love when people paint their stuff. Such care, such passion. Ever since that borderlands themed build I have always +1 these builds.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

And it's so easy to do, people don't realize it. Thanks!

jacobs4525 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Red white and green seems like it would be hard to pull off, but you did a fantastic job. +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks! I tried hard to cover up the red and I actually don't mind the red LED's. I looked into using maybe a green film or something behind the 'Reublic of Gamers' but it turns out the LED's themselves are red.

DBRider251 1 point 33 months ago

This is the greatest build on site. +1000

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

That means a lot!

brelovix 1 point 33 months ago

This is such a badass build. +1...

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you!

cinderstorm 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

(maybe someone asked this already) What kind of paint did you use? Did you have to do any sanding/primer?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Check the 3rd picture, it has both of them. I didn't have to do any sanding but I did prime the red fan rings with white before I applied the green. I don't know if it made the green any brighter at all but that's what I did.

andrewgenes 1 point 33 months ago

3 thumbs up

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

That's impressive, thanks!

skiskate10 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

If this build does not get over 500 upvotes I am going to be genuinely upset.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I'm already blown away that it's gotten this many lol

skiskate10 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Well you deserve it. Your part choices, photos, description, and your attention to detail are fantastic! This is an example of a very well planned PC.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I found myself looking for all those things in builds on this site but there aren't many that really satisfy everything, so I made sure to do it myself. I was monitoring sites with nowinstock.com but found out that they won't alert you right away when a seller gets an item in stock, there is a slight delay. That's how I got my 980's, I just got lucky checking newegg. So i had Best Buy and B&H pages open and I just refreshed them every time I got on my phone. Sure enough I was eating lunch one day and the Swift was in stock on Best Buy so I placed the order and 15 seconds after I did I got the text alert from nowinstock. Five minutes later they were gone!

skiskate10 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Wow, Impressive.

skiskate10 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Btw, where did you get your ROG SWIFT? I can't find a single one in stock.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

Annnnddddd it only took about 2 months lol. No reason to be upset now!

skiskate10 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

Good job man :)

I just finished my build. It's very similar to yours: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/skiskate10/saved/Dx6ypg

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

Awesome, when are you planning on publishing it?

Xemjas 1 point 33 months ago

Very simple, clean, and beautiful. My only question is about the "N7" and how did you do that on the window?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you! I ordered the decal on Etsy from Designs From Vinyl, one green and one white then used half from each one.

Tahab_1 2 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Every now and then there is a master piece on PCPP, I never usually see them in the first 24 hours. But now that I have, it's like I'm witnessing a miracle. Great build!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Yeah it's kind of blowing up on here lol, thanks!

Xeshkar 1 point 33 months ago

This is truly a master piece, When I do my next expensive build hope I can come close to making somthing like this

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

It just takes planning and effort, thanks!

Klark 1 point 33 months ago

I was worried that the red with the formula VI was going to clash with the green, but you did a good job with the paint, and hiding the red pcie ports and ram slots. Just curious though, why didn't you go with the Formula VII? Regardless, it's a fantastic build, and of course thanks for your service!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I chose the Z87 just because it had so many reviews and to be honest I didn't look too hard into Z97, it just seemed like it was an update but one that I really wouldn't benefit from, so I stuck with the board that so many swore on. Thank you!

Klark 1 point 33 months ago

Makes sense.

SpeshBun 3 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

The build that I am working on is nearly identical. It would be a great help to know how this build turns out. Congratulations on finishing it :D

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Cool, I look forward to checking it out!

Landsvoort 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favourite build on PC Part Picker.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I knew someone would make this comment lol

CrunchyStorm 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

man.... WOW..! I feel I need to break down mine and add some more color. Great PC with a beautiful presentation. Amazing work +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

It's easier than you think, thanks!

NewBornNoob 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Wow... This many likes in one day...

Truly Enthusiast Grade Build!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

I know, even I'm kind of like woah. . . I just did this for a hobby, and I already have the 17th most upvoted build out of over 10.5k?? Blows my mind, I'm humbled!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

37th*

NewBornNoob 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Yes, you really did make this build spectacular!

Sicero12 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Please, be my friend? Fantastic ideas and look to your build man. You've inspired so many ideas for me after having completed my build last week.

Cheers bro, congrats on a great looking build.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

It's amazing what you can do with a couple cans of paint and some masking tape right? Thanks, I appreciate that and I'm glad I can inspire ideas!

BenC99 2 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Absolutely beautiful! Definitely one of the best I've seen on this site, great job. Thanks for your service as well.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I'm glad you like it, thanks!

darksouls92 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Fantastic build man, going for something slightly less absurd than this for my post deployment build. Foxtrot Tango November.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks man and I hear you! Hang in there.

iceman2210 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Looks really good! This is my first comment after looking through 100's of builds. I too have been getting my plans together for my next build after 5 years. Still on the first gen i5. Hands down the best looking build I have seen on here. Congrats!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you that means a lot, I look forward to seeing your build when you finish, let me know so I can check it out!

iceman2210 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Will do. I just finished purchasing all the parts today. woohoo!

iceman2210 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Finally have my build done. https://pcpartpicker.com/b/NrRG3C It's not on your custom design level, but I like it so far... :o)

aBanana144p 1 point 33 months ago

OH man. My jaw ....

Too bad all we see of the graphics cards are those 980 Backplates.... D: The 980s look awesome! You have SICK and AMAZING spray painting skills!!!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

You know what's crazy, I have no experience with spray paint. I think people are just intimidated by painting and it's so incredibly easy! Thanks, they are unique and I love them.

xxvolwarexx 2 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you for serving our country! AND DAMN THAT IS A BAD *** BUILD

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I appreciate that, thank you!

TheUnicorn 1 point 33 months ago

I think you just lost about all the warranties due to that paint XD jk i really dont know

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I actually paid for advanced extended warranties and they cover a full repair even to painted cards =)

TheUnicorn 1 point 33 months ago

well nice im still here trying make a 1.2k build. I feel so poor compared to all the builds on this site

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Most builds aren't that expensive, you can do a lot with a little money if you know how to use it right.

TheUnicorn 1 point 33 months ago

yeah true

GalacticDonuts 1 point 33 months ago

Wow first build, amazing! This is a pc fit for Commander Shepard himself XD

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I would like to think so, thank you!

YodelingTerror 1 point 33 months ago

I would like to say some witty phrase congratulating this completely astounding build, but I don't think it would do it justice. By the way, did you just tape around the PSU to color the yellow parts of it?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks, I just stuck a strip of masking tape over the lettering and then used a box cutter to cut out where the letters were, I could see them through the tape still.

YodelingTerror 1 point 33 months ago

Cool. Thanks!

monjanger 1 point 33 months ago

Can I buy it!? :O

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Of course! But right now I don't think I could let it go for less than. . . $15,000 lol

akula2 1 point 33 months ago

If you've time and patience, it would be a good idea sell similar builds. You could make some extra dough (other than Navy pay). I'm sure folks (on this site and elsewhere) will definitely buy because of the excellent build quality displayed in good detail. I'd have brought one, but I game very little on weekends. Great job, once again.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

That would be like a dream job but I wouldn't know how to advertise and do all that, a cool idea though. I guess I could just recreate this one basically, but whatever colors people wanted lol.

monjanger 1 point 33 months ago

Akula2 is right. Everyone notices a build that someone puts time and effort into, and you clearly did. The build quality is just off the charts. And Id like to add in, most people in this price range are buying prebuilt ones. So don't feel like no one is wanting a build like this. No company I know of does a paint job like this!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Maybe I'll get picked up by a company when I get out. I'm planning to go to school, but building enthusiast computers has been in the back of my mind.

PrestonPlays 1 point 27 months ago

I could advertise for you... I make videos :P

lol I don't think a 12 year old would be the most marketable ad campaign :)

canders 7 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Nicely done. Great cable management. Thanks for posting.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you! Hooked III is pretty awesome.

wiredin321 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I like your style. Very impressive! I'm in the process of building my first too. Don't know 100% what I'm doing but I'm just gonna wing it. Should be fun.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks, when I started buying this the only things I planned on painting were the fan rings. Being spontaneous is what led to this final outcome.

Dr_fuzzymuffin 1 point 33 months ago

this is just stupid pretty. you did a superb job!! +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks man!

akula2 1 point 33 months ago

10,000 cable ties that heroically gave their life for this build, you will not be forgotten.

:))

This is called Craftsmanship. An incredible work and result, Meithen.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I bought a pack of 100 and had 5 left lol. Thank you, I appreciate that!

MaskedMonster21 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

You my friend have yourself a true masterpiece. I too am going with a green theme for my first build, and in the same case too! Your cable management is truly stunning, and I love the custom paint! This is one of those builds where I feel like +1 is just simply not enough. But, seeing as it is my only option... +1 for sure! :) Also, how is the 4790k treating you? I have been debating between that or the 5820k, but can't seem to decide which is better. My goal is to have the cpu last about four years, if possible. Thanks for the input and once again fantastic build! :)

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks a lot! If you're using the same case then hopefully I've helped you in some way with how you want to do things. The 4790k is solid so far and it overclocks like a champ, I also get very good temps with the h100i, maxed out at 62C under load with the overclock. Let me know if you need any other info and also when your build is done so I can check it out!

MaskedMonster21 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Awesome, thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I build mine. Also, thank you for your service and I am glad to hear that you are back safely :)

MaskedMonster21 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

One more thing, it would be a huge favor if you could look over this parts list and tell me your thoughts. This rig is designed for 1080p gaming/ streaming. Any feedback would help, positive or negative :). Thanks a bunch! Link: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/MaskedMonster21/saved/4t2j4D

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I don't know a lot about ddr4 and the new 6 core processors so i wont pretend like i do lol. About the fans though, besides replacing the 3 140mm case fans where are you going to put the other 3 140's. And why go with 10000 rpm hard drive when you could get 2 or 3 tb for cheaper and get a 256gb ssd?

MaskedMonster21 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

For the fans, I will be putting two in front, one on the bottom, one in back, and 4 on my Kraken x61 in a push/pull config. As for the hard drive, I have been doing a bit of research myself and I did notice that there isn't a tangible performance difference. I will probably be getting a 1tb hard drive and a 512gb SSD. Thanks for the feedback :)

MaskedMonster21 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Also, sorry to keep bothering you, but how do you like the Razer Kraken headset? I've been considering it, how is the virtual 7.1 surround? Thanks again for all of your feedback!

ArchiMarK 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

This is by far the most gorgeous looking machine I've ever seen! You obviously put a lot of patience and care into this build. Enjoy!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

A lot of patience lol. I had to wait for the 980's so I had plenty of time to tweak and fix things. Thanks!

Leon117 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Wow. No way this is your first build hahaha. But seriously this is amazing. I love the customization with this. I saw Linus do this to his build and it was awesome but you took it off of this world. I love it. I would give more up votes but I cannot. +100

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

It's all in the planning and acting upon your spontaneous ideas lol. I don't think I've seen that build I might have to look for it. Thanks!

torrin1234 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Yep. This deserves all the upvotes it's going to get.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks! Gatsby is actually one of my favorite custom loop builds on the site.

torrin1234 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Wow, that's an honor. Thanks a bunch for that comment.

Seeing you paint the thumb screws holding the PCI slot holders made me want to do that. I'll be doing that this weekend. So thank you!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Cool are you going to post some more pics? Let me know because I want to check it out when it's done!

torrin1234 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Yeah more than likely. I've added corsair fans and that too. So I can do one big update showing everything

Sed8Op8 3 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks!

Sed8Op8 3 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Seems like your fire strike is a little low for your gear. Have you tried optimizing for benchmarks!?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I'm not very experienced with benchmarking so any advice would be appreciated!

PwnCakes 1 point 33 months ago

I absolutely love this build. It's clean and green :P and it's somewhat how I want my future build to be. Just one question, what spray paint did you use? Or plasti dip? Thanks, and great build.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks, check out the 3rd picture it has both of them.

PwnCakes 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks.

bytesize 1 point 33 months ago

Did you get the painting thing from Linus?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I did not but someone did just send me the link so I'm going to watch it soon.

bytesize 1 point 33 months ago

Maybe you should get a Quadro or some sort of PCI-E SSD to fit in that bottom RED PCI-E lane... looks kinda weird

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I'm looking into getting a black slot protector, but it doesn't really bug me because you can only see it if your eye level is lower than the bottom 980.

Kriston_S@101 1 point 33 months ago

Dude I have to comment on your cable management. I mean gawddamn that is sexy!(No hm). Amazing build overall. This is what I call PC enthusiast build.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I was a little OCD about it lol, thanks!

vuo725 1 point 33 months ago

nice build!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks!

Werdna 1 point 33 months ago

What case led did you use? or did it come with the led controller?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

The LED strip came with the Hue.

Gabriel-Asuma 1 point 33 months ago

I must say, I am impressed, especially for a first build, exemplary standards, I have built a few systems in my time but always low budget "bang for buck" builds to move with the times, however, I have been considering doing a build that will not only meet all of my demands but is also a sort of display piece that is well considered and thought out with future proofing in mind, not only in appearance but in performance and reliability, this is definitely a high benchmark and one I hope to achieve, many Kudos.

P.S, I think your happy gif says it all XD

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

Thank you! I did a lot of research but honestly it only turned out like it did because of me being spontaneous as I was putting it together. Most of the ideas were from builds on this site, I just kind of pieced everything together. Having a display piece like you said is pretty cool though, I love showing it off lol. Good luck with your own enthusiast build if you decide to do it, let me know when it's done so I can take a look!

BenC99 2 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

Hey, thought about you and your build. Just wanted to stop by and thank you for your service again for today.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you! I'm spending the day on duty today, seems fitting lol.

GustavoSandoval 1 point 33 months ago

What monitor are you using for these beast of a build you have here my good man.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

The Asus ROG Swift, it's in some of the last pictures.

pulltabking1971 1 point 33 months ago

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

It gets the job done lol

JustAnotherGamer 1 point 33 months ago

In fact, after looking at this more, this is probably my favorite build on the site (even though I think it would look pretty badass with red). You're quite the amazing builder.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

It's been pretty crazy seeing this get more upvotes than a lot of MY favorite builds on this site, are you planning on building anytime soon?

Solid parts, it's going to be a monster!

SpeshBun 3 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

WHOA there nelly! Plug that thing into a UPS or at least a surge protector PLEASE!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

Thanks for reminding me, I had a surge protector for my laptop but since I moved into a different room I left it on the wall. The motherboard has surge protection just in case though, but luckily nothing happened lol.

SpeshBun 3 Builds 2 points 33 months ago

gotta protect them mcnuggets!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 2 points 33 months ago

If I ever get a surge I will let you know that you saved my life lol

shab 3 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

OresGaming 1 point 33 months ago

I love it. You sir are a master at spray paint. I bet you'd make a really good graffiti of a GTX 980. +1

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you! Spray painting something a solid color is not hard though, very easy in fact.

OresGaming 1 point 33 months ago

I want to spraypaint the PCI brackets on my 450D to red. What do you think of that?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

You mean the brackets on the back of the case that you remove for the GPU's?

OresGaming 1 point 33 months ago

Yes, those.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Those were one of the easiest things to paint, you shouldn't have a problem.

Trufflekins 1 point 33 months ago

Pardon me while I stare in complete and utter awe...

OhHeyImKyle 1 point 33 months ago

Honestly, the only thing I think would make it any better is if you went with red instead of green, to get the authentic N7 theme going. But kudos man! This is almost the exact build I'm building, except I'm going with 2x8gb sticks instead of 4x4gb, and I have the NZXT H440 in black and red.

OhHeyImKyle 1 point 33 months ago

But, all in all, even if you had bad cable management and poorly chosen parts, you have my upvote simply for N7. I have an unhealthy obsession with Mass Effect. I'm on my 7th playthrough of the series, this time I'm challenging myself to go through on Insanity without firing a single bullet. Adept for the win

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I would have gone red but I wanted mine to be more unique since most people go with red. When are you planning on finishing yours? I've done about 6 playthroughs between the 3 of them and that is pretty impressive lol.

OhHeyImKyle 1 point 33 months ago

I'm parting out. Mine is going to be rather expensive since I have to do A LOT of photoshop/premiere pro work for my job and I'm gonna be doing some 3D graphics work for it. I'm going with a 4930k that I'm gonna oc to around 4.4-4.6, 32gb RAM, and 2x980's with a 512gb ssd, 4tb HDD, and 2x1tb HDD's in RAID 0.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Yeah that sounds like it's going to be a very solid rig, when do you plan on starting it?

OhHeyImKyle 1 point 33 months ago

Already started http://pcpartpicker.com/user/OhHeyImKyle/saved/cLnNnQ Here's where I'm at.

  1. The two monitors thing is one or the other, whether I decide that I'd rather have IPS and build in speakers over gsync and response time.
  2. If I go with the ROG Swift, then I'll get the speakers. If I go with the PB278Q, I won't.
  3. There is a reason for having 2 keyboards. I do Let's Plays (cuz you know, it's the newest fad) and I needed something with no click and no deep thud when recording with rubber dome keyboards, but when I'm done with videos for the day, I do everything else with the Chroma.
Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

What kind of games do you play? If you are big into shooters then I recommend the ROG Swift, BF4 is so smooth and fast.

jkkavan 3 Builds 1 point 33 months ago

I've been following the evolution of the ASUS ROG SWIFT for awhile. Found your build. ( as per previous comment my old dog ate my dentures that fell out of my mouth when I saw this. Triple Score: Nice Parts. Obsessively Nice Build (Kawasaki Green always in style). And really decent pictures of the whole thing. I guess the Navy teaches a few things about detail? ( Ex Air Force, son Army.) My buddy just got his 3D glasses and says its cool. Double the surge thingy... another friend's house got hit by lightning here in TX, fried a buncha stuff... don't know if you can protect a direct shot, but maybe.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks! I just had so mush time waiting for the 980's that I was constantly fixing little things, taping/painting cables to hide them, cable management redo's, etc. I've wanted to try 3D but never really looked to far into it and I was thinking about getting a better surge protector, mine's not the highest quality.

LongbowX404 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

How is the front airflow on the 750D?

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Airflow is great, it doesn't hurt that I have the aftermarket silent 140's, I highly recommend them. My temps are all pretty good, I don't get anywhere close to very high temps even under load, great case.

LongbowX404 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Good to hear! Thank you! Excellent looking build by the way. The green really stands out.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks!

beLIEve 1 point 33 months ago

the red on the motherboard would have vexed me but otherwise looks amazing.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

The only reason it doesn't bug me is because you really have to try to see it, or I would have gotten some slot protectors or something, thanks!

fgoncalves97 1 point 33 months ago

Hey Meithen, Great build! Was wondering if you could link the etsy vinyl stickers? I haven't been able to find them.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thanks! I can't copy and paste on my phone for some reason but search 'mass effect sticker' on etsy and it's the picture of the n7 logo on the macbook.

fgoncalves97 1 point 32 months ago

Big thanks for the reply. I love your build. Best, Francisco

Tommo791 1 point 33 months ago

If only I had the balls to paint my GPUs..

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

It's actually very easy, you just have to dive in.

Tommo791 1 point 32 months ago

Yeah I suppose :/

Tommo791 1 point 33 months ago

Also, how did you spray paint the PSU because I am going for a brown and white build and wish to paint it brown.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I put masking tape over the whole thing then used a box cutter to cut out the lettering, you could still see it through the tape.

Tommo791 1 point 32 months ago

I was thinking of doing a similar thing but with the h440 and red spray paint on the h100i as you. Just looks so good! Cannot believe how professional it looks :) well done man

mgunter 1 point 33 months ago

One of the best builds i have ever seen, inspires me to push my build to the next level. 11/10 Best PC NA. Nice work!

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

Thank you!

Harvey_TM 1 point 32 months ago

I'm commenting on this, just so that I can go back in my comment history to find this beauty of a build.

Meithen submitter 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

It's also now on the first page of highest rated on the site =)

mizamori 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

You could remove the back plates from the cards and paint them white to match. Just make sure some bare metal is left to ground them to the case. THis makes me want to make my predominantly black/red build into an N7 build and add some white.
