Description

He uses it for cutting edge internet gaming, general purpose internet browsing, and multimedia playback. The first board was DOA and had to be RMA'ed for a replacement, but after that it was fine. The aftermarket CPU cooler was bulkier than expected but it did it's job well. The USB 3 front panel jumper has a tendency to want to fall out on the motherboard. Generally speaking though, I was pleased with this build and my nephew likes it.

Why an i7 if he's just gaming, browsing the web and watching videos?

It was on sale for $250, I was originally going to get him an i5.

The i7 4790 was on sale for $250-- it was a no-brainer to buy it. As far as the video card goes, his LCD is not 1080p. It's 1600 x 900 so a Nvidia 750 gpu is good enough for Skyrim and Crysis in high detail.

Plus I didn't want to get a power sucker GPU because they sometimes leave their games running overnight or while they are at school (though I think they are getting better with that bad habit) and leaving them running at max like that is hard on the hardware.

I Respect and understand ur opinion, it was very nice of u to build a pc for nephew and u know make them happy, thank you for replying and also i hope next time u do more researches in order to get a nice price per performance build even for a nephew to get the best results.

Normally you'd get way better bang for your buck with an i5 but for $250 that's only 15 bones more than current prices for a small performance boost vs. i5. Above comment is passive aggressive-- big time.

Looks nice! But you forgot your other nephew, Uncle why?

He got one the year before! An i5 with a geforce 650. I just didn't use this site to help build it. I'd take pictures of it but it went through some abuse from my nephews and doesn't look as nice like it did.

Also: how did you know I had more than 1 nephew? A guess?
