manjaro 5820k
by chodamoyerI have overclocked to 4.425ghz at 1.308 volts.
I can add more pictures on request...
Looking for a new monitor. Perhaps 4k to add to this set up.
Any suggestions?
-----update----
I'm surprised you didn't like my monitor? ;0 It's actually a 5:4 aspect ratio.
Can you suggest a specific monitor? I have my eye on the asus PA328q which is not yet released. Do you think my single gtx 780 overclocked could handle the 4k at 60hz? if not, you will realize that 1440p would look crazy nice in comparison to what I have now. which one should I get?
To answer your question, I'm using it as an all around pc with longevity in mind. Video, gaming, music, browsing, emailing, editing multimedia, etc.
When I bought my last computer in 2004 I read a few reviews online saying you'd never need that much hard drive space, ram , raw processing speed..etc. PCI was the norm and Pci express was new, more than 100gb hard drive was absurd, 4 gb ram was unnecessary. Those people were correct at the time, but in hindsight they were wrong. If you don't understand where I'm going just think about what kind of computer you'll be using in 10 years and realize that I probably won't even be able to web browse properly with the 5820k computer in 10 years or more. I know there is other opinions on this like buy a new cheap one every few years , but I have enough experience going back to 1996 Macintosh an early 1990's apple IIe that I focused on building something that gave long term value.
You can see my circa 1999 HP 8665c (lasted ~5 years) and my 2004 dell dimension 8400 (lasted 10 years) in comparison next to the 2014 5820k manjaro (hopefully to last 10 years) in the new pictures.
I call it manjaro b/c I first tried the Linux distro manjaro and it asked me for a name of the computer during install as is typical of most operating systems. I was unprepared and unoriginal and had manjaro on the brain. I think it sounds good so when I installed win 7 pro and it asked me for a name I stuck with it.
I had my cousin cut some groves/slots into an oak board for my stand which allows for airflow and to keep it off the carpet and turning it into a mini vacuum cleaner . You can see it in one of the new pictures. I'm really proud of that mod.
There also is an 80mm fan that I got from my HP I added above the 2.5 in hard drive cage and fastened with painted parts from an old dead power supply from the Dell 8400 that you can see in one of the pictures. I was trying to aim it at the PCH to cool that off. It's a 3 pin delta and has some high RPMS and moves a lot of air for such a little fan and undervolts like a noctua. 15 years old and still going strong.
The evercool hard drive 5.25 in bay adapater is only used as a front fan intake which I thought would create a nice positive pressure wind tunnel from the front of the pc out the back through the nh-d15. If I ever end up make a server out of the system I could add drives there.
The storage tray is there for the little nick nacks. If you have nick nacks , then this is for you.
How do you like the cable management? When you start to add a lot of drives it just seems to become a spiderweb. I spent a decent amount of time with it while I was building. everything is kinda temporary as I have been tinkering and don't want to really tie things down for long term at the moment.
Thanks for your thoughts.

I am looking into the ROG swift monitor. I would rather an IPS panel but I hear it's great for a TN panel as far as color goes. I do some gaming, but it's not the main focus. So an all around monitor would probably better fit my use. Should I wait for an IPS panel with G-sync or pull the trigger on the swift?
Also I added a photo of my current set up with a wooden side stand and a warren kimble framed yankee clipper art.
