Description

After long researches, i started this build almost an year ago but completed it only recently with the gtx 970. My old gpu was the nvidia gtx 650 1GB.

The case is not perfectly suited for cable management but i tried to do my best.

I've overclocked my CPU to 4Ghz while keeping turbo core at 4.5 Ghz@1.3625 and all power saving features on. I can push it to 4.8Ghz@1.45v but my VRMs throttle it even at 55°C package temp. I plan to add a fan over VRMs to increase overclock capability.

I've also overclocked the ram from 1866 to 2400 to help performance in recent games.

Any suggestion/advice is welcome !

Looks nice, you could mod the case and add a shroud covering the HDDs but just enough room for cable to go through for better cable management.

I was thinking to buy a new one, with a shroud. Do you have any suggestion?

+1 for the build but I really like the desk. Where you get that at?

Ah I guess its too late now, but next time maybe if you wanted perhaps more headroom for overclocking I would had suggested a mobo with the 990fx chipset as apart from a 970.

I heard about vrm's getting hot but I'm not too much into the knowhow of overclocking, I apologize if this sounds like old info to you aha

When i started this build i was on budget and the alternative was the m5a97evo r 2.0. I ended up with this because of the supposed better overclock capability due to more power phases. Now i d choose the 990fx or asus equivalent. Planning to upgrade when zen will be released though.

Wow, now that I look back at amd's fx chip boards theres a lot of new ones out since two years ago when I bought mine.

You could had tried gigabyte's 990fx ud3 r5 board for a little more.

But if you made this recently, theres was also a few boards (much newer than yours) with m.2 support and usb 3.1 around the same price same mistake my bad. I read the description before commenting I swear

And imho I wouldn't think you should upgrade to zen to quickly, I'm not sure amd could do so much, but theres hope

mind I'm going off usd prices. Not sure about euros ; ;

I hope in zen too, otherwise i will go with intel. I hope that dx 12 can prolong 8320's life and improve its performance in cpu bound games. I have serious issues in fallout 4 dropping to low 30s. Other games run pretty well.

One more thing. I know you tried extreamly hard to put a gtx 970 in the build I just realized. But gpu prices drop down so quickly compare to everything else. With pascal around the corner I would have gone with just a gtx 950 and tried to get more quality parts~ such as the monitor or mobo.

I suppose its not to bad if you work and have a renewable income, I didn't when I was 16 and kinda regreted going all out with the gpu since my r9280x is with like $110 tbh now if I sell it compare to $310

My comment might be quite oppionated, as in actuality I don't play the newest and greatest games, and felt like I over did it. I don't know about you and I hope people don't downvote for my second thoughts.

(I know the feeling, speaking from experience)

Edit: crap I didn't see that you started a year ago haha
