Build

Feels like the 1st time...cuz it is!

by jawash22

Description

This was my first build and I use it for Fallout4, Mordor,GTAV, Dawn of Discovery, Skyrim, and a lot of single player rpg's. I used everyone's help on this site and waited as my parts trickled in. I just wanted 1080p 60 FPS minimum and the ability to start using STEAM as I'm coming from an Xbox360. So far so good. I also built my own desk using Gas pipes bought from Home Depot, Melamine panels , and IKEA legs for my back shelf.

Part Reviews

CPU

I know I could have gone last gen but I wanted to be able to upgrade soon, so I might as well get something for a 1151 mobo. It's fine for my purposes as I'm notoverclocking, running 2 GPU's or anything crazy.

CPU Cooler

My cpu didn't come with a stock cooler so this imho, looks better than other choices and is quiet. Very easy to install as well and came with thermal paste.

Motherboard

Seems fine and supports 7.1 audio. Only thing I don't like is that it only has three 4 pin fan headers. Plenty of USB 3 support.backplate included, etc. Plus when I purchase my next CPU, it will be overclockable so I won't need a new MOBO.

Video Card

Plenty of power and I like the Vram for the future. Could easily run a single 1440 monitor.

Case

Awesome to say the least. Easy cable management as PSU is hidden and wires can be stored underneath. No optical bays but that's fine with me as I loaded Windows 10 of a USB.I got the all black version which came with black fans and should have gotten version with white fans for my theme, but it's cool. Gloss finish is nice but have to be careful with display window. Case stays cool and is open in front for water cooling. Another big plus is the support for 2 140 fans in front (which I'm adding this weekend) and the magnetic dust filters on the front and one for the PSU on bottom as well. It comes with a rear 120 fan and a 140 on top. They are 3pin though so mine are running at 100% speed off CPU until I get new 4 pin ones.

Power Supply

Minimum PSU I would recommend, but it's fine. Next one will be modular though. Could be quieter though.

Case Fan

Strong...quiet..front intakes fans

Headphones

Awesome Open back headset with superior soundstage for gaming. I paired it up with an Antlion modmic 4.0 and it's way better than any headset with built-in mic.

Thanks, I read lots of builds and posts. Probably could have gone 6500, but no regrets so far.

Don't forget to pick up a roll of white melamine edging from Home Depot to finish the edge of that table. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-3-4-in-x-25-ft-White-Iron-On-Edge-Tape-274431/100559770 You have to iron it on. Love the table and the build +1

jawash22 submitter 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

Thanks, that's next on my list and some sort of rounded passing for the edge.

If I may ask, about how much money & time into the table build? Never thought to build my own, but I LOVE yours!

jawash22 submitter 1 Build 2 points 38 months ago

About $130 to build it and took half a day with the paint and everything. which includes the pipes, melamine desktop, IKEA legs, degreaser and Rustoleum Spray paint for pipes.I had to degrease pipes using simple degreaser from autozone and then paint it. The gas pipes, flanges for feet, and tee's were the biggest expense bought from Home Depot, but you may be able to find them cheaper or as used parts from a plumber.Home Depot even gave free cuts for the tabletop so just know what measurements, height, etc you want. I used this as a reference and modified it by not using bottom shelf and I moved the cross member support: https://imgur.com/gallery/Omh7V

Cool build. I really like you built the pc and the table. +1

Why the z170 mobo and not an h170? Thinking of an upgrade unlocked cpu later?

jawash22 submitter 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

Yes, I'm upgrading sooner rather than later so I figured why not. Thanks dude!

Cryorig's H7 is a great choice, I've got it on my 6700K. What kind of temperatures do you see?

jawash22 submitter 1 Build 2 points 38 months ago

27-29 on CPU right now on idle.45- mid 50's under load with fans around 450 rpm.

jawash22 submitter 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

39-44 on idle on GPU and up to 68 under load, but I'm running my stock rear and top exhaust right now. Putting in two 140's front intake tmrw which should help. I think stock fans are fine if you're not overclocking, but recommend some sort of intake, which the s340 doesn't have stock.

Cryorig H7 all the way!!! :D

jawash22 submitter 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

Way underrated, but i think for the price it's the best. Love the look too.

Looks really good.

How are you enjoying the PC mate motherboard?

jawash22 submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

It's great except for it can't be overclocked, even with the hacks and stuff.

LonghornAlamo2040 1 point 33 months ago

Seeing DIY people like yourself manage to get good rigs and smart shopping is very motivational for me. The desk looks solid, smooth, and very clean-it's great! Thank you so much for sharing your finished build with us. :)

FlexerYT 1 point 6 months ago

You chose a cpu cooler even tho the cpu comes with one

Great all-in-all, but try saving up for a better mouse & keyboard, try getting a razer or logitech

EnsisTheSlayer 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

OC doesn't need to get a Razer or Logitech. I do think that the OC should consider upgrading to a cheap mechanical keyboard and a nicer mouse down the line though, but if he/she's okay with the CM that's fine also. Not too shabby for a budget combo.
