the Photon is average to decent and I can't find a decent review for the 1000 watt G1, the 750 and 650 watt models aren't good so its of questionable quality. I would go with a Evga GS, PS, G2, or P2 psu, all 4 have basically the same performance but the S models are shorter and iirc quieter but the G2 is quiet already.

Now I am looking at these two, https://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-120g21300xr and http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220ps1000v1 . should I go with 1300 watts gold or 1000 watts platinum? I don't really understand the difference between efficiency.

I don't really understand the difference between efficiency.

Its nothing more than a bragging right really unless you leave the psu under heavy load 24/7 because you aren't going to notice the saved money in power at all.

should I go with 1300 watts gold or 1000 watts platinum?

For sure the 1300 watt G2 if you can afford it and don't mind it being long.

Thanks for the help! I know this is not the right section to ask this in but is this a good build? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sFYMNG the reason i'm going overboard on the psu is because if I ever want to do a full upgrade I wont have to change it.

Yes, I just would consider going Skylake.

the reason i'm going overboard on the psu is because if I ever want to do a full upgrade I wont have to change it.

Same, I plan on getting a 1050 watt Evga GS for future proofing.

go for the EVGA 1050 GS. not sure if you care for a quiet psu, but the 1000/1300 G2 have no eco fan mode and many people have been complaining because the fan profile is loud on both, especially the 1300 G2. it's always spinning and starts around 1000 rpm. the photon is a good choice for a high end psu, the 1000 G1 is actually fine, just an old design and not quite as good as the G2/P2/GS models, not quiet fan either.
