Old PSU in new build?

Hey all,

I'm putting a new build together and would like to salvage as much from my old box (5 years old) as possible.

Any thoughts on my reusing my Seventeam ST-850ZAF 850W PSU?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817176002

Its way more juice than I needed (AMD Phenom II X6 1090T), or will need (I believe). The old machine was used for freelance 3D but not on a fulltime basis.

Should I just pony up and buy a new PSU, or is my old Seventeam likely serviceable?

Thanks!

Even though the topic has been answered, the seventeam ST units 600w+ PSUs are/were tier 1 units: https://community.newegg.com/eggxpert/computer_hardware/f/135081/t/45344.aspx . So yes you can still use this unit if it still works.

Just my 0.02$

Hey, thanks all!

I'm new to this forum, and am blown away at the amount of knowledge and friendliness.

You'll likely see me again, as I spec and build my workstation. I've built 5 machines prior, but its been rather by the seat of my pants.

I'm going to give the old PSU a go. I'm all for saving a few bucks!

Thanks again!

You make a good argument for a new PSU.

I paid 129 U.S. currency.

Thank you for your reply!
