Hi,

trying to build a system to handle the below requirement. will be running linux / windows (yet to decide on the OS):

Functionality of the system would be for Development work / HTPC / Media Server / NAS Server. Will be hosting 4 - 5 virtual images on the same , active all the time. connection to 4 monitors. Will be used for Streaming at 1080. Will NOT be used for Gaming. will be running software which are high CPU intensive. Storage for atleast 40TB, with option for expansion in future.

Need support for high bandwidth Networking

What's your budget? Do you need peripherals (keyboard/mouse/monitor/headset)?

dont need peripherals. Excluding storage roughly around 1250 dollars, but putting another couple of hundred or so could get me a better system , than i am okay for that price.

also quick one since i need a high performance system, i am open to the option of 8 core or 10 core also, and again on the price, not so particular, but dont want to spend crazy..

2 X 8 core Xeon, haswell-EP. Ideal for compute intensive parallel workflows with VM's.

EATX motherboard with dual socket, built in audio, LSI SAS/SATA controller. (support for up to 18 drives built in).

Massive quiet nanoxia case to comfortably support the full EATX motherboard and up to 19 drives initially, but that could be expanded to more by converting some of the 5.25" bays into 4 X 2.5" bays.

GTX950 has the most advanced fixed function hardware video decoder available in a discrete GPU at this time, and supports 4 monitors (up to 2 X 1440P and 2 X 4K in this particular vendor configuration). (this GPU will actually be useful going forward into the 4K transition for video as it supports H.265 4K decoding).

Dedicated 256GB SSD's for VMs, 480GB dedicated primary system+software SSD, 40TB archive drives, 4TB enterprise grade performance mechanical.
