So, I have a key I got form Dreamspark for Windows 8.1, how would I get this onto a flash drive or something for me to put it on my new system?

  1. Go to this link and input your license key. Then download the ISO. (Don't worry, the site leads to Microsoft): https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows8ISO

  2. Download Rufus as this program is up to two times faster than the standard media creation tool: https://rufus.akeo.ie/

  3. Once the bootable USB is created, insert the USB into a USB 2.0 port in your motherboard and start it up. I would suggest pressing the BIOS key and finding the option to boot from a USB.

  4. Install Windows regularly. If you need a guide, here you go: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/clean-install

I can help. When you are about to download it, set the download path to be to your flash drive and then let the download commence. If that doesn't work, download it to your PC like normal and Cut + Paste it into the flash drive. Also, it might be better to upload it to drop box to save you the hassle of sending a flash drive.

Appreciate it thanks. So, now the flashdrive just needs to be plugged into the new PC and it's a boot drive just like that?

Yeah, normally there is a specified port for that, but it could work for any. When you are in the BIOS, you just need to select the flash drive as the primary boot up drive and will lead you to the installation.
