Hi Guys and Girls

I have had to change some of the parts in my build (GPU and Board) due to some delivery issues. Is it worth getting the 970 with this? I was originally going to get the 960 which is around £100 cheaper.

Monitor is pretty basic so I doubt you would see a noticeable difference between the two..now. obviously as time goes on the 960 will show its age sooner.

This for instance would potentially be a more interesting freesync based setup.

Hi StaffsMike

Thanks, the issue is. I have everything else already sitting in front of me in a box. I just need to decide on the GPU to re-order for tomorrow delivery in the next few hours. I want to somewhat future proof it, but if with this build it wont make any difference then I wont bother. If just the monitor will hold it back can you let me know.

I understand that the R9 390 is probably better in some (or most) respects than the 970, but it is very power hungry compared and it would mean I upgrade the PSU as well as possibly a few other things.

So with this in mind. Is the 960 fine or would I have any benefit other than future proofing going for the 970? I am looking at 1080p gaming in mind.

Thanks again James

I was in your exact position last week. Had the money for a 970, couldn't decide between it and the 390 but since I am gaming at 1080p (until OCULUS) I decided I don't need either, as by the time I by a VR setup I will probably upgrade anyway.

I couldn't bring myself to get the 960 as I just don't feel it represents value for money over the GTX 950 which can be overclocked to a stock 960 speed almost effortlessly. So when a 20% discount rolled along (£95 as opposed to £120-£125) I grabbed one. 1080p is perfect in and around 60fps (for 60Hz).

hmm. I was just researching everything I can about this topic. The 309 seems to be better but there are more concerns regarding its design. The 970 seems to have less issues although less performance.

So then I started thinking of the comparisons of the 960 vs the 970. The price is the most obvious one with £100 difference straight away. I had a look over some of the comparisons online and there is a distinguishable performance difference. I think as I have the money for it now and I am already investing, its worth the upgrade.

I have the 970 G1 in my basket right now, I just need to pull the trigger. Maybe my monitor wont be good enough but that can be upgraded with little loss and used as a secondary for work.

Bought it. Why not :) http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00NQ862GY/?tag=pcp0f-21

Just hope my case can fit this all in. Should do.

Edit* Looks like I get a free game too, even better.
