Can I just get the free media creation tool and make a bootable flash drive, and then purchase the product key from somewhere?

All of the purchase options I see, offer an installation disk, but my pc won't have an optical drive. Can i purchase just the key or something so I can install it with my usb drive?

I had a free W10 Education iso from school. I used the media creation tool to get the Home/Pro edition, loaded it, then used the Education key. It asked me to "upgrade" but after that, it was activated. I imagine you could do the same (buying a key).
