getting confused by all these builds!!

Hi there,

I’m getting confused by all these systems here. I didn’t build a system anymore for a long time. Last one was before the Pentium ages. My last system was a pre-build system from a supermarket so nothing fancy. Now I have a 9 year old son who’s playing games and my laptop can’t handle this. So I want to treat me on a nice gaming/Photoshop system. Maybe some video editing but that’s optional.

Reading all these pages are killing me! Not sure anymore what to take. What I do know is that I want a GTX 980 Ti GPU. And possible a i7 processor. This is what I came up with so far. http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/6HDQpg But I can image that I made some mistakes.. it’s not a 486 system anymore.. 

Also my budget is a thingy… The wife, is going to kill me but if I don’t keep it under the 2000 euro. I build a system for a couple of years so yes it will be overkill but hell.. isn’t that what we like.

All comments are welcome. Help this Dutch guy to build a nice system. To bad I missed those cybermonday deals but we’ll see, I don’t need it tomorrow. Also I’ve been reading things about the skylake and coolers which frightens me a bid.

Greetz, Rick

[edit] overclocking sounds great but never did this before! so I'm not sure about that.

So I want to treat me on a nice gaming/Photoshop system.

Im pretty sure that the i5-6600k would do a great job and would save you some money. Unless its heavy workloads, multitasking i would go with the i5 and overclock it.

I would save some money with the case, the PSU (cheaper and has a 10 year warranty), ram, SSD (double the size and cheaper),GPU

At first I wanted to select the i5-6600k cpu but someone (as always) told me that if I want to do some video editing it would be better to take the i7.

Also the choice of memory and motherboard are unknown for me! What are the advantages between all these brands, just want a killer system for…. Well we all want to sit first row for a buck.

I don’t want my system to make too much noise. So that’s why I went for that case. If I go overclocking, do I need a liquid cooler than which makes more noise.

I’m sorry if I’m asking noobie questions but I just want to do it right. Last question. Those m.2 SSD,, why not or why so. I thought they were super-fast so that’s why I added it to this build.

the NH-D14 is a beast of a cooler, its silent and will let you overclock without any problems.

If its light video editing the i5 will be fine, if not the hyper threading will be beneficial.

all ram is basically the same as they buy it from the same manufacturer, and for what you will be doing you won't notice the difference between this speeds. This ram is extremely fast and its still cheaper than the GSKILL you selected even though it has lower speed. This is because of the tighter timings and lower latency.

http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-memory-hx424c12sbk216

this is how you calculate

(CL/(Freq-in-MHZ) * 1000) = speed in ns

GSKILL is 3200 with CAS 16

16/1600 X1000 = 10.00 NS

kingston 2400 with latency CAS 12

12/1200 X 1000 = 10.00 NS

corsair 2400 with cCAS14

1200/14 X 1000= 11.66

remember this is nano seconds so even if you get the corsair it will be fine

Thanks guys, this advise really helped me a lot! I will downgrade some parts now. :-) that monitor comes a little earlier this year... :-)

still have one questions left. that SSD drive. isn't it better to have that m.2 SSD and that EVO in one build? or do you say.. forget about it.

never mind,, did some googeling. (which I should have done before I asked this question) a nice SSD is okay for me! :-)

my current screen will is a 1080p but I'm saving for a 34 inch 3440 x 1440. I can sell that to her so that se can watch some movies on it.. haha

the saving on the psu is nice.. but that's why I asked the specialist in this forum, I can think of a lot of things but do I need them. thanks for your reply.
