im looking to see if i can get a cheaper PSU for my build, but it also needs to be highest quality possible (i don't a power spike frying anything)
The GQ is about on par with the Evga B2, it might be a higher peformance wise, I just don't remember the numbers off of the top of my head.
Pardon my candor but if u were truly concerned about a power spike frying the PC, u would have added a UPS before anything else..
Anyways it is always a good option to check PSU Reviews on reputed PSU reviewers like Jonnyguru & Techpowerup.. The EVGA B2 undoubtedly is a good PSU with a score of 9.0 on Jonnyguru
The EVGA 650W GQ suggested by Vagabond is a better PSU with a score of 9.4 on Jonnyguru
I have suggested the EVGA 600B -- An 8.4 rated PSU on Jonnyguru and 8.3 rated on Techpowerup..
On 31st Aug, 2015. Jonnyguru rated the $ EVGA 650W G1 an 8.5..
In this 2012 Review, this May 5 2015 Jonnyguru gives a 9.1 to the EVGA Supernova GS 650W..
Hope this helps in ur decision..
A 750W PSU is an overkill. 600W is more than enough. If you want a gold certified one, then I would recommend http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-120g10650xr . If you are good with a bronze certified one, then I would recommend http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cx600m . Hope this helps.
The G1 isn't good, isn't good its price and is a downgrade. The CX also isn't good and is overpriced.
