Hi, I have massed the sum of £550 and would like a part list! -I live in the Uk -Would like to play recent games on high and in 1080p (med if high is not possible) upwards of 40 fps.
-Already have windows key. -No peripherals needed -This will be my first build - Finally I am not a fan of fancy cases ( Huge red spiky edges) but I would prefer one with a bit of room to work in! -I've probably said something wrong so please correct me!

Thanks, Your mysteriously solitary Internet user...

This looks pretty good for you. Has a locked i5, an R7 370, and 8GB of RAM. This would do fine at 1080p. It is just under 550 pounds.

Thanks! What is the equivalent of the 370 in the 'old' gen of Radeon. (the 200 cards)

  • 1 point

Actually the R7 is the old gen and the R9 is the newer Radeon cards. Something like the R9 270 is probably while a little better similar to the 370.

The R7 370 is an improved/updated/rebranded/etc. R7 265.

The 270, which is a little cheaper. The 270X would be about the same performance though.

This will be a really nice build for mid-ranged gaming. An i5 processor will perform nicely in modern games and paired with the r9 380 it will be very good. Any questions just ask.

It's a little over but the upgrade headroom is utterly insane.

You want a faster processor? Get an aftermarket cooler and used non-K overclocking

You want more graphics power? Get a second 280x and run it in Crossfire.

You want more ram? Install more. There's plenty of slots open.

Want faster load times? Put in an SSD.

Want more file storage? It has plenty of drive cages.

This system can do it ALL.

Though do note if you want to OC or crossfire, more case fans might be a good idea. It has room for a number of those too. ;)

Or you could do it without sacrificing the i5-6600 still have the R9 380X and have a 128 GB SSD for your OS etc. Have a look.

There's really no sacrifice. The point is to OC the 6400 to beyond the specs of the 6600 anyways.

Non-K overclocking on a Z170 is a thing these days.

Ahhh I see, I have heard of this once before on this forum, so what your saying is its better to over clock a non K i5 using BCLK? How high can you over clock a 6400 with a stock cpu cooler I wonder?

I made a revised build based on this information for the builder to consider. Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't use a stock cooler. I'd also suggest eventually getting something along the lines of a Hyper 212 Evo. It's widely considered one of the most cost effective coolers on the market.
