PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
The list made for your dad's needs was too overkill. This is a better optimized list for his needs.
Dad better have a video card on hand to use, while that 860k is of the APU family, it has no functional integrated video.
A fridge doesn't have a videocard, neither does the Anthlon 860K
Just tossed a cheap 40 bucks GT610 in there, heard they're quite okay for their price in such things.
This could do too.
The A8's integrated GPU is a lot better than a GT610. No reason to bother with discrete GPUs in the <$80 territory these days, as they have been effectively made redundant by modern iGPU's.
OP don't buy this lol...
Hah no way does your dad need a 212 evo for what he'll be doing. Hell he really has no need for the 8GB of memory.
This should work fine. Almost a HTPC, but basic office work is the higher priority, with a side of BR playing ability tossed in.
No problem. i3-6100 is actually an awesome processor. There is no reason to go with AMD now that skylake is out.
I went with an i3 which should be good enough for basic tasks and should keep up performance well since it is Skylake. The b150 motherboard is cheap and compact. 4gb of RAM is more than enough for web browsing, videos, etc. A top rated SSD because it is very fast and somewhat cheap. A tiny case that leaves space on the desk and is easy to build in. A gold rated PSU since the computer will be on often and it is semi modular so cable management and air flow aren't obstructed.
im leaning towards the intel builds
wondering if I should stick w/ the stock cooler or get an evo?
Go with this cooler if you'd rather not stick to stock. It cools plenty for the system and is quiet at a low price: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/silenx-cpu-cooler-efz92ha2
I run stock on mine. No issues at all. Computer isn't too loud in any way.
what about now?
So far, all the EVGA PSUs mentioned look to be first-gen products, and if so, are not the best. I'd suggest a different PSU, otherwise it's a decent build overall now. The Hyper-212 cooler isn't required as the CPU comes with one, but it is nice if the PC needs to be a touch quieter. The one I mentioned earlier will be plenty of power for the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-ea380dgreen
Here's my suggestion. I went with i5 instead of i3. Pretty much the same price when you remove that cooler and get cheaper board.
Another take for your consideration:
All SSD storage so he will think it is a rocket ship!
MB has 2 case fan headers for the 2 fans that come with the case.
