Upgrading dx4200-09 power supply

Hi Guys,

I currently have a Gateway dx4200-09. It has for a Power Connector: 1 x 24pin Main Power Connector, 1 x 4pin power connector. It also has One PCI Express ×16 slot.

What I want to buy is a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 R5. It has for a Power Connector: 1x 24pin ATX Main Power Connector, 1x 8pin ATX 12V Power Connector.

It also has 4x PCI-Express 2.0 x16 Slots.

I am looking to upgrade my power supply and use it in the Gateway dx4200-09 until I can afford to get a new motherboard and case. Can I buy a power supply with 1 x 24 ATX Main Power Connector with 1 x 8 ATX 12v power connector and use it in my dx4200-09?

I've read where PCI-E graphics cards are backward compatible and would like to know which one would be best for the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 R5 that I can use in my Gateway dx4200-09 until I do get a new motherboard.

Thank you for your insight.
