Looking for help with a Workplace Desktop build.

Looking for help with a build for a work station in my home. PC will be used primarily for work with no gaming. Workstation will be used for manipulation of large databases and some photo editing.

Budget is $800-1,200

Prefer to stay with a intel processer. Unsure if it is best to stay with a skylake or haswell. or if it is worth the extra coin for a i7 vs. i5

Thanks

Here is a good option, so I believe.

  • i7-6700K. Fastest socket1151 CPU out of the box. Capable of overclocking if desired. 4-core 8-threads for heavier threaded apps.
  • CM Hyper T4 - decent and inexpensive and will allow some half-way decent overclocking of the CPU. CPU reportedly doesn't come with a heatsink
  • Gigabyte MoBo - The GA-Z170-HD3P I believe is the updated version of the HD3, good budget board with overclock ability
  • Fast RAM due to how memory intensive database work can be. 32GB to allow for larger databases and images in Photoshop.
  • SSD for speed in loading primary apps and the OS
  • HDD for storage of files and lesser used apps. 4TB to allow for multiple huge databases and large quantity of images.
  • R7-370 to provide good price/performance ratio. While not used for gaming in your case, it can handle most 1920x1080 games at halfway-decent setting if the desire ever comes. You can go cheaper here if you wish without much penalty for your usage.
  • good professional looking case with decent internals.
  • good 520W PSU to power it all for many years.

No OS and no peripherals were included in this build.

Neither the Haswell nor the skylake, the latest intel Workstation oriented skylake-based intel C236 chipset ..

http://ark.intel.com/compare/82012,90591,90594

Also the much faster 6700K should be better than even a Xeon E3-1275 V5..

You can also overclock the 6700K for a much better thruput than the Xeon..
