Hi Guys, this is literally my first foray into building a PC, initially i tried to go about it on my own but a lot of terms are catching me out, and i'm not sure if i can guarantee compatible parts for my build and secondarily people with experience will probably have a lot more insight into how i should go about it.
So to start with i'm British so i'll be working with pounds, but i can just use a converter to work out a rough value anyway.
My budget is around £1000-£1500.
I'm looking for a PC oriented predominately around gaming. which includes playing emulators and using a controller all the way up to current titles.
I've been contemplating building a PC for quite some time now, and i'm afraid to say i know very little. So any links to guides to learning my way around it would be appreciated.
Things i'm relatively sure i'll be doing:
I was planning on running Windows 7 as i hate the layout of 8 & 10.
I'd like to put a decent Solid State Drive in to start with maybe around 256-512gb to play with (Mainly for games and the operating system)
I'd like to install a decent hard drive as well, preferably 2-4TB
I was thinking about a blu-ray disc drive too, (Idiot question but i assume most blu-ray players are compatible with CD-roms and DVDs)
A lot of my friends have recommended Intel processors over AMD, specifically stating to buy an I5 over an I7 too, which seems to be a money saver as well as beneficial for gaming.
As painful as it sounds, i might have to factor in buying a wireless card too, i might be able to establish a lan connection to my router but it may require a ridiculous length of ethernet cable.
I have monitor, a mouse and a semi decent keyboard. So it will only be the computer itself i'll be putting the money into.
Perhaps 16gb of Ram will be satisfactory, i don't really know how much will be recommended. Nor do i know which brand is the best investment when it comes to Ram cards.
Graphics card wise, i'm completely lost, which is embarrassing considering it's probably going to be the most expensive part.
Recommendations on motherboards, cases and power supplies would be extremely useful.
Thanks for reading anyway, i hope perhaps someone can suggest decent parts and perhaps push me in the right direction to start ordering parts.
If i failed to specify any important information, please ask and i'll do my best to let you know. Unfortunately i'm at work at the moment and taking advantage of my dinner break to post this.
