First timer, not sure where to start

Hey guys

FIrst time I've ever considered building a PC from scratch and I have no idea where to start.

I would mostly be using the machine for gaming and I have around £850 to spend. I will mostly be playing RTS games, though I would also like to be able to play MMO's and recent RPGs on great graphics settings with a very good FPS (if this is even possible at my budget level).

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd take something like this. EVGA GS/G2 PSU's perform very well to make it cheaper. I just LOVE SeaSonic. That's all.

Thanks, say I wanted to cut £70 or so off that build to fit in an OS, which area(s) do you think I would be best to look at alternatives for?

You could get a i5-6400, not TOOOO much of a difference. If not looking for scavy nazy graphics you could downgrade the videocard. Or, which I highly suggest to snip some money off; get an evga g2/gs psu. Way cheaper, but I love SeaSonic so that's why xD

Changed the case & psu to get an os in there for ~£850

970 has better consistent performance as per the 99th percentile metric used at techreport - http://techreport.com/review/29316/amd-radeon-r9-380x-graphics-card-reviewed/10

(if this is even possible at my budget level)

Your expectations are very reasonable for your budget. What all needs to be included in the budget? Just the hardware, or do you need the OS and peripherals like a monitor and keyboard?

My bad, I should have said. I'm good for a keyboard, monitor and mouse, but would need an OS.
