H7 Ultimate / 5820k combo -- Good enough for OC?

Hackwood

Hey guys I'm putting together a workstation for my school, and they had a few requirements, a 6 core i7 CPU being one of them. My question is will this cooler keep it cool enough for a mid range overclock, or will I hit a thermal wall too quickly? If its not good enough, what are some suggestions? Preferably, they will fit into a Fractal Arc Midi R2 case. Thanks guys!

Note: due to the inability to edit titles, please note that I mean h5 instead of h7

You mean the h5 since the h7 isn't 2011 compatible right? You'll be fine.

The H5 is a really good cooler. Pretty much same perf. as R1 for much lower price. Would go for that. it would be very capable of a very high overclock, 1.4v probably if your OK with 70C.

I had a link to a review for the H5 Ultimate somewhere while typing up a build guide where they had a 5820K overclocked to something like 4.5GHz and the H5 Ultimate kept it just below throttling temps under AIDA64 FPU+CPU+Cache.

FPU = GPU? And nice to know, if you can find the link I would appreciate it

No, floating point unit. Choosing "stress FPU" will make things get a bit toastier than pretty much anything else would.
