Hey everybody, I was just wondering if my evga 500 watt psu could handle the new r9 280x without any overclocks.

It should, but could you please post your whole build to be sure?

I haven't heard much about that EVGA line of PSUs. It seems to be fairly new. I can't find out if it is made by Superflower (good) or HEC (not so good).

Do you already own the psu? It could run it. But i dont reccomend it. Its not a good idea.

Yes sadly i thought it was a good deal, but turned out to be a rip off. I should not have bought it at all. I may be able to rma it back to ncix.

600W for most systems with a single gpu... unless its the power sucking 7990. Also, stated by swagnuggets123, include a build link.

500 is way too low for reliability on a 280x...some of the 280x cards recommend minimum of 750w or 1000w crossfire, the lower spec ones ask for a 500w sigle card or 750w crossfired. NEVER plan on running on the line of a minimum requierement with a psu... you will kill something... if you use a lower spec 280x, dont go below 600w absolute minimum (if theres even a chance youll crossfire or over clock later, you better just spend a few extra bucks now instead of needing to buy a whole new one later when you upgrade or fry something)

go with a 750w - 850w to be safe

Go with a 650, but if you plan to crossfire it i would go 750. Thats what i plan to do witht the same card.

i would either get a better psu at same wattage or get one with more capacity.

Its a bronze rated PSU, so its enough to power a 280x.
