Efficiency or watt?

Hello, I have a question for the community.

I'm looking to buy a Power supply, and I was wondering what's better or would benefit me more, would a higher wattage or a better efficiency do?

I'm interested in a cx750w with a bronze efficiency, or 550w gold efficiency.

I don't know what would benefit, and for you interested, I might upgrade so I'm not sure what would be better for future proof.

To answer your more general question, it's not helpful to think of it as wattage vs. efficiency. The wattage you need to have is a function of your build. You need to examine your part list or look at wattage calculators (there is one here on PCPartPicker), and that will tell you how big of a PSU you need to have for your build. People will often use a PSU that supplies 100-200w more than what they absolutely need so they have some headroom if they add/swap out new parts.

Efficiency is related to how much energy is lost as your PSU draws power from the wall and delivers it to your computer. A more in-depth summary is here: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/blog/2012/august/80-plus-platinum-what-does-it-mean-and-what-is-the-benefit-to-me. Higher efficiency will save you some money on your power bill. If you can afford to pay extra for a higher efficiency unit, you can save some money in the long run.
