EVGA GS550 "Eco" switch cause GPU not to register at all?

Hey guys,

I've had a REALLY strange issue the last week that's caused me to RMA my ASUS STRIX GTX 970 back to them for repair (fingers crossed) because it wouldn't even be recognized by the MOBO for some odd reason, even when it had power. To tide me over, I picked up a GTX 970 Turbo off of Amazon to use while mine is being repaired, and, to my suprise, I popped it in and nothing. I pulled out my PSU, and flipped the "ECO" switch to "on" and boom, the GPU fired right up... Now, I might be crazy, but the "Eco" switch shouldn't prevent the MOBO from seeing the GPU, correct?
